Most excited about Pantheon. The pacing Iron Gwazi will probably be better but Pantheon has several elements that I think no other coaster has an answer for. First, the fall back will be really cool, especially in the front. Second going over the top hat looks like it will be amazing, especially in the back. The zero G stall looks like it might br the best one on any coaster. And finally, that outer banked turn looks like it will be the single best element of 2022, even above the one on Aire Force One.
@@Brandon-qd2lb I personally disagree. From the POV it has at least 65 seconds of prime ride time as Chris would define it which is really good. In fact, if you compare its prime ride to time Maverick, at Cedar Point then Pantheon is just 10 seconds shorter. And no one says Maverick is too short. And in terms of number of elements it has quite a few, especially when you count the fact that you traverse several of them forward and backward and each one gets progressively faster. I think a lot of people mentally omit everything before the switch track but that section has two outward banked small airtime hills and an inversion that looks to provide some good hang time. The first launch and turnaround don't look as impressive but that first section looks to have some overall good elements. I mean, that's 5 elements before the switch track. And the whole launch section will have a bunch of different elements. And after the top hat you will have the two best elements but the banked turn that follows the zero G stall looks to have some good positive G forces and the wave turn at the end will probably have some very good floater airtime. I think Pantheon looks like it will be a reasonably long coaster with a lot going on. Combine that with the smooth Intamin track and better restraints than what the earlier Blitz coasters have and I think it will be a real winner.
I agree with a lot of what you said, but don't get your hopes up too much about that outer banked turn. It's exactly the same as the one on Kondaa. And to be honest, it's fun, especially if you sit in the back, but it's also nothing special or jaw breaking. And once you did it a couple of times in a row, it even gets kinda boring. And concerning thos back and forward launches, that's a gimmick that's overrated. Don't know why manufacturers keep doing that. It adds nothing to the ride itself. Just give us a more forceful launch in the beginning, that will be more exciting.
@@bjornvandenbremt1717 the back and forth launches can be fun. I think the Sky Rocket II model is fun and they are definitely better as they are than if they just did a single launch up to the top. On Pantheon the forward and backward launch will have two airtime moments that could be excellent if they're are profiled appropriately. And I think the fall back will be fun regardless of whether or not it catches anyone off guard. Maybe the airtime hills will be very mild but maybe they'll be really good. You can't really tell from the POV. And while some coaster ideas could be labeled "gimmicks" that doesn't mean they are ineffective or boring. Take the Arrow/S&S 4D model like X2 and Eejanaika. One could call those coasters gimmicky but that's really missing the point. The flipping works very well and creates a much more extreme experience. Likewise, the forward and backward launch can be done very well and may prove to be a very satisfying experience. As for the outer banked turn, it really depends on how much speed you have as your crest the hill but if you still have upward momentum at the peak then the airtime will be excellent. I don't think the outer banked hill on Steel Vengeance ever gets boring. It's the best element in that park and one of the best elements in the world. Why would it become boring? So we'll see if the coaster feels like it has enough momentum going into that element on Pantheon but the off ride footage looks very promising.

That makes it a lot more interesting, since the backwards launch on Pulsar (Mack powersplash) is forceful enough to give some ejector airtime. Personally I wouldn't call the Arrow/S&S 4D's gimmicky. Those are some insane machines (I have ridden Eejanaika, but not X2 or Dinoconda). Could ride those all day if my stomach would allow it. Concerning the outer banked turn, the speed will determine the effect. On Kondaa, this element is boring in the morning, but is a lot better towards the afternoon when the trains are warmed up. However, for me personally, it's not that special because it's not forceful enough. You get some floater airtime, but not that extreme airtime I liked on El Toro for example. The first drop on Kondaa for example is way better and gets you every single time.
I'm of two minds regarding Aquaman. On the one hand, I don't think it's what SFOT needs. The park already is already loaded with solid middle-tier roller coasters, many of which are short and simple; so this is just doubling down on an area that was already a strength. Instead, they could have addressed the gaps in the park's lineup, like a floater airtime machine, a less intense hangtime focused looper, a multi-launcher, a modern woodie, a dueling/racing coaster, etc. On the other hand, Power Splash kinda' makes perfect sense. It is a direct upgrade over the shoot the chutes Splashdown, which was old but not historically significant; so the Park really didn't lose much by getting rid of it. Aquaman will do everything the previous ride used to (Including being named to the same DC chracter) and then some by adding launches, vertical spikes, and an airtime hill (which is apparently pretty strong) onto the big splash. I'm especially pleased that management decided to add the turntable after all, as the ride should have a reasonable throughput.
Do not underestimate this ride. You might think it doesn't do much, but the backwards launche and airtime you get is pretty good, I can asure you (I live in Belgium and did the one at Walibi). Sure, it's a short ride, but a lot of fun.
Having ridden Fønix, I can say that past the first drop and the stall loop it's just non-stop airtime moment after airtime moment. No real sustained forces, but just a ton of smaller airtime moments. The ride is good in every seat, too. The back obviously has the best first drop, plus a single floater/flojector (depending on the time of day) right before the end. The middle gets the best hangtime in the stall loop, and the front gets a great sensation of speed from the wind blowing in your face. Worth mentioning that the park also has a completely untrimmed Reverchon spinner (Flagermusen) and a Gerstlauer launch coaster with comedically fast pacing (Lynet). The staff and operations are also great.
I wish an American park would invest in a new age vekoma thrill coaster. These look fun. All I'm seeing here in the states are B&M Gigas and Hypers, S&S Free Spins, and many more common models. The only vekomas we have here in the US are the SLCs, Boomerangs, and Kiddie Coasters.

Great video! looks like a good year for coasters worldwide- I don't think you could count this as a "miss" as it's a retrack/redesign but I'm really excited by Tonnerre 2 Zeus at Parc Asterix. The redesign by Gravity group of an already great coaster, adding overbanks, a 90° drop and even more airtime to what was already a very airtime-heavy coaster!
I agree with the top 3 but I am surprised “Hurricane roller coaster” in china did not make the list. It looks like it could be the beat ride mack has ever produced looking at the layout.
Probably not Steel Vengeance. Steve not only has the airtime and the great stats but it's a lot longer ride time. Iron Gwazi definitely looks like a top 3 RMC though and as a Sea World/Busch Gardens season ticket holder it has been torture to see it every time I go
You probably missed "Bombay Express", a GCI Hybrid in Bollywood Parks. This looks like a nice ride. Also, in Motiongate there will be another 4D Free-Spin and a Maurer Spinning coaster.
I like your rankings! 2022 is stacking up to be like 1999-to new millennium in terms of ground breaking coasters. Covid's been the raspberry seed on society. I survived a bout with it last April 2021 (on my birthday) I'm ready to ride some coasters!
My problem with coasters like Blue Fire (and clones) and B&M Divecoasters is that all they seem to be doing is go through (back2back) inversions. And Blue Fire is not even a short ride tracklength wise. A bit of variation wouldn't hurt. I did the one at Europapark and it's a snoozer, no forces whatsoever. Dr. Diabolical will feature an airtime hill but i wonder how that will feel with over the shoulder restraints.
Lotte World Busan is just train 45min away and will be my new home park. Fortunate to have 4 big-size coaster near my home. B&M's Draken&Phaethon two punch and Mack's Giant Splash and Giant Digger
They have since loosened up the brakerun on Jersey Devil at Great Adventure, so it doesn't slow down the pacing as much anymore. I know people had been complaining about it before, so it seems as if the park listened.
Looking forward to these! Fun Spot Atlanta is my home park, so I'm definitely going there ASAP when it opens. Iron Gwazi and Pantheon open March, and Ice Breaker in February, so maybe this spring/summer I'll get to ride them (and maybe VelociCoaster too). I really want to ride TRON and Cosmic Rewind, but Disney is just so expensive these days, and if we're spending that kind of money, it'll be on Universal. Maybe someday though... Also, can we get a few new age Vekomas over here? They look awesome!
I agree about Jersey devil. Six flags Great adventure is my home park and jersey devil is an afterthought when you can walk 50 feet away and ride nitro or across the park, El Toro.

5,500 feet of track really is insane. It would be the longest rollercoaster and most theme parks. and all indoors. The show building for it is among the biggest Disney has ever built, and it was painted sky blue to not stick out as much as possible.
Iron Gwazi will be the # 1 new coaster of 2027. Even if it does open this year, I may end up liking ArieForce One more. I hope they both are able to open this year, because that will make for a great trip to the Southeast!

I was disappointed in the fact Viper didn't open this year as planned due to the lockdowns, and I didn't end up going to any parks at all due to the fact that I couldn't drive to the States, didn't want to go through the hassle of flying, Canada's Wonderland wasn't worth taking a weekend trip with nothing much else to do, and neither La Ronde nor Granby Zoo really made me want to go out with reduced capacity restrictions. What a cromy year.
Leviathan will probably be the second best coaster in Australia and an important one at that, for three reasons. 1) After DC Rivals, most people can agree there’s a pretty big drop down to Abyss and Superman, and Abyss is on the other side of the country (my side :P). 2) Australia really lacks wooden coasters. We have the world’s only wooden wild mouse and an insanely old wooden coaster that even has a brake man (seriously it’s really cool, do it if you get the chance). 3) Sea World, while not a bad park, is rather lacking when it comes to coasters. They have two and both are decent, but not reason enough for a visit to Sea World. Leviathan should make the lineup more appealing and justify the park to people who don’t care about animals and stuff.

My thoughts exactly. I had this with Kondaa last year. Solid ride, but not near what everybody thought it was going to be (world class). The triple launch and outer banked turn are nothing special by any means.

There just not enough elements on pantheon or they're really drawn out. The ride time isn't good enough but there wasn't much room to work with.

The inteman raptor at sydneys luna park has broken the chain of no new coasters in sydney plus is a one of a kind

Despite my undying love of Intamin, Iron Gwazi is definitely number one. That pacing looks killer, and could be on par with Zadra.
Ice breaker recently got its actual opening date so i expect one for iron gwazi and pantheon soon!

I was disappointed in the fact Viper didn't open this year as planned due to the lockdowns, and I didn't end up going to any parks at all due to the fact that I couldn't drive to the States, didn't want to go through the hassle of flying, Canada's Wonderland wasn't worth taking a weekend trip with nothing much else to do, and neither La Ronde nor Granby Zoo really made me want to go out with reduced capacity restrictions. What a cromy year.

Leviathan will probably be the second best coaster in Australia and an important one at that, for three reasons. 1) After DC Rivals, most people can agree there’s a pretty big drop down to Abyss and Superman, and Abyss is on the other side of the country (my side :P). 2) Australia really lacks wooden coasters. We have the world’s only wooden wild mouse and an insanely old wooden coaster that even has a brake man (seriously it’s really cool, do it if you get the chance). 3) Sea World, while not a bad park, is rather lacking when it comes to coasters. They have two and both are decent, but not reason enough for a visit to Sea World. Leviathan should make the lineup more appealing and justify the park to people who don’t care about animals and stuff.

Guardians is #1 for me, even as a hardcore enthusiast i just don't get as excited about RMC at this point as something totally unprecedented from Disney

I would not expect Pantheon to be nearly as good as Velocicoaster. It will be a good ride but I can see it being a letdown if you're expecting greatness
My thoughts exactly. I had this with Kondaa last year. Solid ride, but not near what everybody thought it was going to be (world class). The triple launch and outer banked turn are nothing special by any means.
Why is everyone talking about that 3.7 G turn on Arie Force One? Palindrome pulls 4.5 and nobody is talking about that.
