I am setting this up as a 2x4TB JBOD (8TB) but when I go to storage pool the 'Create" button is grayed out, maybe I should start all over again but I am new to NAS and know nothing about it.

It was hard to make I forged it in the fires of Mount doom. But every now and then this hobbit keeps showing up and asking for it.... It is a right pain to be honest.

Hi, thanks for this video. I am a Mac user deciding whether to get one of these. Never have done it before. Also, zero familiarity with it, but you made it look easy. Is the process different on a Mac?

I bought 2 × 2tb WD Red from Ebay but they were from different sellers. Turns out one was Red Plus and they have different size caches. Will it matter?

I'm just looking for a media server to keep MKV videos that will be accessible to my laptop, pc and bluray player that has a media server button on the main window, will this handle that or do I need a more powerful one with more ram, I have just been using a usb drive for it but it's a pain in the butt for file transfer.

This will work but has no video encoding so if you want to stream video it may be a bit slow or buffer. I would recommend the next model up tbh. There is a jump in price so it does depend on budget.

Should be OK depends on your Internet. You might want to look at the next model up but give it a go.

Hi can you please do a video on how to configure the VPN package. If I was on holiday and wanted to connect the the NAS, but only through File Explorer as a mapped drive, I would need a VPN. Can you please show us this?

Good info. But as with many youtube instruction videos, the actual “full size” display size of what is being shown, to say nothing of the text, is tiny. Why?

I know it's late, but if you're ever looking at doing this in the future, or if anyone else sees this, you should be able to configure it as JBOD, which would do exactly that without the loss in data security from RAID 0 or the loss in capacity from RAID 1

Is it possible to permanently turn off the lights? Why do they even put those useless lights on everything? They indicate nothing at all. The blinking tells me nothing. They could put in lights that turn on only when warning about something particular.

Regarding password you should rather have a long password than a complicated short password, any password of 8 characters takes less than a second to crack, but a longer password with eg. 3 or 4 words like horse stable house cloud is much easier to remember but will take ages to crack

I use Dashlane and 2FA think I am good thanks. Short pass in video is for time saving. Also using dictionary words is the worst advice ever!

Very true I have swapped out to two 3tb WD reds. Although have run WD blacks for 3 years in a drobo with no issues as it was all I had. But definitely best to use a nas disk.
