  • In this video I will share with you the strengths of using a network attached storage (NAS) and why it's very important to consider moving from using ordinary external hard drives, flash memories or even cloud storage to NAS.
I will also reviewed the Synology DS220J which is an entry level NAS device that works the best for personal & home users because of it's affordable price and amazing features

These are the reviews I like: short, to the point, and extremely informative. Now I understand why and how a NAS is my next solution for all the storage issues I’m facing, and how to resolve once and for all the ability to share our family travel movies to relatives, even if they are continents apart. My sincere thanks 🙏

If I upload photos to it - disc 1, can my parents access it to view photos of our daughter when I upload new ones or movies of her and does it automatically update those photos to disc 2.

The price difference is insignifficant, currently, for the 4TB model in my country, at this point, but I'm wondering if there's any downside in choosing the Pro, over the "regular" (sound, heat, endurance, and so on), at least from your experience?

I was shooting for 8TB, and this was the most cost effective way of reaching this capacity. The calculation went something like this 1 x DS220J with 2 x 8TB IronWolf would have costed ±650eur. It depends on which setup you choose Starting from RAID 0 up to RAID 5, RAID 0 is the least fail safe but it gives better performance, but Synology recommend SHR which is developed by them and it has some cool features that you can check here www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/Storage/What_is_Synology_Hybrid_RAID_SHR%23:~:text%3DSynology%2520Hybrid%2520RAID%2520(SHR)%2520is,volume%2520deployment%2520quick%2520and%2520easy.&ved=2ahUKEwjrupfT1vLuAhVOXsAKHRXjCGEQFjANegQIAhAF&usg=AOvVaw1u7px-7H2Ai0nHOKCy-Waq

You don't need internet to copy files to it from your PC because the device is accessible via you local network and yes you can use a USB and copy from it to your NAS as well

@@IDTR do you think this to be a better solution than Google drive? I have 2tb space and i give 10 euros a month. In five years it would be 600 euros, almost the price for the nas and two HDDs. Will they last 5 years? Can I trust them to be my back up drives?

I was mislead by videos like this. And bought this NAS.
    It was mistake.
I wanted it for photos and video Storage.
Synology Moments took weeks to index my files. Nas was unusable during that time.
Dont waste your money on the J models.
Specs are not good enough. And memory is not upgradable.
Synlogy photos / moments/ is very slow, everything takes ages and sometimes it times out.
Im just using it for samba shares now.

im updating my comment. I deleted synology Advanced Media Extensions, Synology Photos and Video Station after de DSM7 upgrade.
Things got better. Then rebooted. Then reinstalled those packages again.
Now its working again. I still recommed you buy a better model, maybe a +, not a J.

I had problem about my synology nas
    And Steve Baker
Technical Support Engineer write me about my problem that
We are sorry to hear that your DS218 has to be reset. This is likely caused by an issue in the DSM operating-system.
We understand that you are worried about losing your data. Please rest assured, your data should not be affected by the reset as the OS and data are stored in separate partitions on the drives. When re-installing the OS, the system should normally not touch the data-partitions of your drives.
I beleived and i did what he said now all my data erased omg i shocked after sir Steve Baker dissepeared i am alone there is nothing in my hands
Synology is regret bad nas choose qnap there isnt good support for problemss !!!
There is no good service and support becarefullll!!!

A NAS should not be seen as "THE" backup solution.
Flooding, fire, get stolen are 3 reasons to sustain that.
We should have always 3 backups of those real important files. For example:
    -PC
    -NAS
-Cloud service (Synology C2 Storage; Backblaze, iDrive seems the better solutions. And no, Google Drive and/or Dropbox aren't).

Your advice about the cloud storage is very misleading. I use a NAS at home for convenience and quick access to my files, but I still pay for cloud backup. In case of a flood, fire, burglary or anything similar, all copies of your data from your devices and the NAS are gone. Non-tech people buy those boxes and believe that RAID means their data is safe, when in reality one power surge and bye bye years of work.
