I literally only did dry detangling throughout college because every wet detangling attempt was me crying in the communal shower asking why my hair was playing with me

@@CoilyDiaries i’m just seeing this for some reason. But depending on the style i’ll dry or wet detangle. After the twistout has reached it’s last leg i usually cornrow it down to stretch the hair and then it is easier to finger detangle once i finally do the braid out. If i did a wash n go which i RARELY do. I have to wet my hair to reactivate the product to get some slip so i can section it off.

Dry detangling is SO amazing! I literaly ONLY lost what was naturally shedding from my perimeter yarn braids. Redid the edges st 2 wks. I am wearing these braids until March 2024. SHEBIS TELLING THE TRUTH...Hair is STRONGER whencitbis DRY!!!

Humectant Spritz! Love that idea. Instead of just using plain water, you are making sure your hair is hydrated AND moisturized!

    ❤ great video!
5 yrs ago I kept my hair in twist for 18 months. my hair retained all its length became very long! I have 3C-B type so I did get some unraveling with the looser pattern 😅
I did almost every thing you did except that moisturizing part. I will try that this time. 😊I have cut my hair since and I want to redo that again!
Thanks for the tips. Keep the videos on twists maintenance coming ❤

Oh Yes I did retwist ! Like every 6 weeks, I would redo the whole thing. But what I am saying, is that I kept hair in twists as a style only. no twist out or washngos. I washed my hair every 2 weeks in sections and refresh the twists as necessary mostly the sides and front portions.

I love the look of mini twist but I wear mi o braids because braids locs moisturize more and prevents matting and tangles I also can wash my hair in braids and my hair is more protected ❤

This is so cool! ❤ I would dry detangle on occasions depending how my hair day is going--I would apply oil on my hair and combs and finger detangle first then use a comb to remove hidden knots. It absolutely can be done without hair loss or breakages--if they know what they’re doing and how to do it! 😂

Absolutely, you’re welcome😊. And try not to be intimidated by combs, because they aren’t damaging at all as people say--I learned from 22nd Century Natural woman to always oil the hair and combs as well as any brushes you will be using--as this prevents snagging and provides a lot of slip for the comb to glide through easily! I’ve been doing this technique and it’s a game changer. 😊

@@Gladiator_in_a_Suit honestly I get curried away with combs and brushes. I prefer fingers because am more patient this way…

@@CoilyDiarieslol I get you! 😂 If it works for you definitely stick to it 😊. When I use combs and a brush I do a picking motion from root to ends. I cringe when I see other UA-camrs gliding the comb through kinky hair as if it were silk pressed--that absolutely damages the hair overtime and that happened to me before from trying to copy them. 😂

11:11 yes, I agree, detangling from the root is SO much easier. It's gentler on your ends too, if done correctly, and helps in length retention.
(I can't dry detangle unless my hair is blown-out or pressed though 🥲)
There's a lady here on youtube with wavy-curly hair called Katherine Sewing who also dry detangles. You might enjoy hearing her take on the method.

    • @CoilyDiaries

it is because we shade hair daily so there is always new growth coming through. if they are too many short hairs it could be breaking or excessive shedding

Hiii enjoyed watching your clip. I detangled my mini twists just as you did then re-twisted and washed it. After the wash and moisturizing my hair was so matted that I experienced breakage 😞I’m think next wash day detangle and make chunky twists as I wash and hoping no matting🤞🏾then make the mini twists. Trial and error here! Any suggestions? Oh and I braid my roots and vine my ends with flaxseed gel 😉
    Ps
Some parts of my head my hair is shorter than other basically breakage. Kinda like what happens to you a year or so go. I don’t believe it’s new growth. What worked for you to fix this and how long did it take to nurse it back? Oh one last thing on your next video on detangling can you show us the amount of share hair you have after detangling. I’m trying to compare notes 😅 Thanks 🙏🏾

Am not sure I get you right but this method I shared is a post Wash routine not a pre wash. So the tip are supposed to help with the post wash matting.
About breakage, I stopped detangling with combs and learnt to moisturise my hair well. Recovery time depends on the extent of damage but 6-12 months you should see a difference.

      @CoilyDiaries
      Yes, it's me again 😊
How do you tell if it's new growth or breakage? The reason I'm asking is that my hair was always bra strap length frim childhood to 2 yrs ago when I cut my hair short Toni Braxton style. Because of covid, the job had us working at home. Somehow, another messy around with UA-cam, I found about going natural. So I decided to try it. No more perms. Then, a couple of months ago, I discovered your videos. And stop using combs and brushes. WHAT A GAME CHANGER!!! Less shading and breakage. My hair after 2 yrs is almost back to bra strap. Sorry for the long story😊. Since your videos I've been braiding my hair, don't like how the twist looks after a few days, and the my hair stays moisture longer in braids. Since stop using the combs/brush to put my hair in a high or sometime low buns. And now only keeping my hair in braids, I noticed short fine hair when parting my hair, and braiding it. How can I tell if that's breakage or new growth?
Also, that dry detangling THANK YOU is another game changer. Even less more hair shading.
When first went natural I was washing weekly, got tired doing it, I do it biweekly now. But am going to try monthly.
