Glad you’re out there saving these awesome vintage American motorcycles. Whenever I watch one of your videos it always takes me back to a time when I was in my twenties and rocking my first Harley; a 1979 Low Rider. I remember the excitement when HD announced their new Evolution engine platform. It was a great time to be into Harley Davidson motorcycles. Man, I wish that I’d had the foresight to hang onto at least one of my Shovelheads. I now own two Twin Cams; a 2010 FLHTK and a 2016 FLSTC and I love them both but I really miss the sound, feel and simplicity of my Shovelheads. I’ll be going to your website to enter into your giveaway because that might be the only way that I can add a Shovelhead to my garage without risking a divorce 😁. My wife is absolutely wonderful and loves riding with me but she doesn’t understand that one can never have too many Harleys in this life.
I am a lucky guy with a super understanding wife...thanks for commenting..👍👍✌️
Another awesome bike you’ve saved. You’re living the dream. Keep it up.
Thank you, couldn't do it without a super supportive wife...been digging your channel, keep it up..👍
@@shovelheadffej Thank you! Appreciate the support.
Doesn’t matter how many leftover shovel parts they used, it’s an EVO. Even the ignition cover says it.
First year EVO was an EVO. I don’t understand why the attempted justification.
As a Shovel guy since the 70s I finally had to admit EVOLUTION was the perfect name, they finally perfected the shovel design and saved the company.
Your Channel is awesome! I have become hooked on your channel and in the past 5 years I am hooked on saving these Shovels also. I just recently started posting stuff up here including a Sturgis restoration and the rare FXDG I was just a kid when these bikes were new but I am hooked! Keep it up Great stuff
Thanks for the great comment, just checked out what you are doing on your channel and I subbed....super nice bikes...flipping love that FXDG...👍✌️
@@shovelheadffej that’s really awesome of you. This FXDG believe it or not is my 2nd one a full video coming up on this one as soon as I get a chance to edit. 👍
Looking forward to watching the progress on this bike….. love the color and patina!
Thanks Thomas, I'm just a sucker for the Patina and rust😁...Was just at the H.D. custom paint shop and someone was paying big bucks to get their new bike to look like this...🤦♂️
Best Shovel motors ever made. Evo bottom end and Mahle pistons. Put a new one in my 81 1/2 FLH80 in1985 when big end started Knocking in Melbourne at 120,000 KLms. Made it to Sydney & new motors on Dealers (Frasers)table Evo one end and shovel at other $3, 300 AUST With carby, oil pump and ignition.
Rode HD my entire life. Now I ride a actual American value built bike. F Willie
Glad to see you bringing her back to life. Be well!
Than you John..👍👍✌️
It is amazing where some of these bikes are left.
I often wonder why people just give up on a bike...🤷♂️
1985 FXWG is one of the greatest Harleys ever.
The Softail in my avatar is an '84 with factory Evo, 4 speed kicker, and chain drive.
Your FXWG is a late '85 model. That may be useful info when you buy replacement parts.
Thank for the info and commenting...👍👍✌️
You must be smoking some good shit lol
Now that’s a rare bird Jeff! Looking forward to the resurrection!👍
Thanks Sled, I really love working on these old bikes, seeing them get a new life...👍✌️
Rebuilt the S&S on my '77 FXE last winter. It had been sitting about 10 years with nasty gas in it. Don't know if it had ethanol in it but it melted the inside of the fuel line and until the outside of the hose started leaking all that crap ended up in the float bowl. That shit was nasty. Soaked it in Berrymans carb cleaner. Looks and works like new. Poking out all the passages in the carb body wasn't fun. Good luck with yours 👍
That Berrymans works like a charm...👍👍👍✌️
I remember when the 84 evolutions came out and they were on display at the Battlefield mall in Springfield, Missouri (my hometown), I was very impressed with the new softtail and the evo engine but even back then I couldn't afford one.
Now, I own two shovelheads and two evolutions.
1978 flh
1982 flt
1991 springer softtail.
1992 electra glide ultra classic.
I'll enjoy seeing your 84 coming back to life.
I would like to ask if you know of anyone that makes a kickstart conversion for the 1982 five speed transmission, I'd really like to have the option on my 82 FLT.
Check out Big Twin pretty sure they do...nice collection of bikes you have...yep when the evos came out I was too poor and no credit to afford one...👍✌️
You've got some cool stuff!! Love old Evos!! Need an apprentice? Lol, you've got the best job!!
Thanks Charles, I could only show you how to do it wrong, but somehow it'll work..🤣🤷♂️
Cool Blue Shovelhead Evo 😎 Ah interesting to know about blowing the rear cycl head gaskets. Sounds like that bike has had a hard life. Great you have a remote switch. That s&s carb did look dirty.
Thanks Biker, finally took a few times but I got the carb all worked out..✌️
You have a vast wealth of knowledge about this brand of bike.
Lol, thanks man....never been accused of that but it has helped me on the side of the road a few times 👍
Looks like the bike will make someone a good runner
My brother decided he wants it, he'd be crazy not to..thanks Richard..👍👍✌️
another great video brother, very informative on things to look for when buying old bikes
Thanks Mike...everything can be fixed on a old bike...Never ran into one that wasn't worth fixing..👍✌️
Thank you for sharing 🙏
Thank you for always watching and commenting...✌️
Good to see old bikes getting restored. Sad to see these bikes just cast aside by a lot of people.
Just bought the 6 pack of decals. Let me know when I win .... Iol
That yellowish stuff is probably pollen from sitting outside
Thank you Tom...good lucky..👍👍✌️
@@shovelheadffej more decals for the box are always cool. My favorite was given to me from Indian Larry at a event
Does anyone know when the next giveaway winner will be picked?
Man, yeah I remember them, a guy came to work at our detailing shop and he rode in on one of those but it must been 1 or two years later and had yeah no kickstart. It was a bitch as his elec starter was screwed and we always had to bump start the bastered down the length of the workshop and it always back fired and I always fell backward when it fired up with the jolt.
Man he never gave a crap about us just roared of down the road and waved thx.
lol but yeah was a cool bike.
🤣 funny story...👍👍✌️
I still ride a 1985 Evo 4 speed kicker we have done over 280 , 000 kl , 2 rebuilds 🕷 and my Bike is a ONE kick start
I bet you know every inch of the bike..👍👍👍✌️
The first guy giving legit advice.
There was a young buck gonna show me how to warm it up fast!
Lets them idle forever, "engjnes gotta breath",
Such a poser, dude its August!
glad Im outta dealers.
Thanks for the great comment, appreciate you watching...👍👍✌️
Would the cold start be better if it still had the factory carburetor that way, it wouldn’t blow the rear head gasket just out of curiosity
Good question, from what I understand it has to do with the "fit" or milling of the cases, but I've never seen a Evo with a Stock Carb.. 😁
If this economy doesn’t change soon, I’m going to be selling my bikes. 😞
We might all be....hopefully we can turn this ship around...👍✌️
thats rough. Just dodged this myself. Found and bought my dream bike. Got sacked
Found a job nobody at the foundry wanted. Start monday.
DON'T GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT.
Regards 🇮🇪👊🏼
Same to you Spiral...👍👍👍✌️
Hey FFEJ I have a question I hope you can help me out. I bought a 1981 FXS shovel it has a lot of cool parts on it. One of the things that attracted me to it was it has dual plug heads. Well once I got into it the heads have 2 different plugs in them. The right side are short reach and the left side are long reach. Has someone destroyed these heads? This is my first shovel with dual plugs and a guy tried to tell me when you dual plug the stock heads that’s what you end up with. I have never heard this so that’s why I’m trying to get some info. Thanks bud any help would be appreciated. You take care and ride safe.
Long story short, pretty sure those are either after market or those were machined after factory...the only ones I've ever messed with I had wielded closed back to single...they look cool as heck IMHO, but just don't know enough about them to give you a solid answer...hopefully someone will read this and answer..👍✌️
Thanks FFEJ I appreciate your help. I have heard they make a big difference in how smooth they run and actually run a little stronger. I don’t know I just thought they looked bad ass with 4 plug wires. Thanks again bud.
Bet a soda blaster could make that motor look new.
But then you'd have to wash it all the time.. 😄
My 84 FXRS is an EVO. I bought an 86 FXWG from Oil, an old brother. The ratchet in the cow patty lid can be welded with stainless to make it shift correct. I really disliked that bike!
😂 don't know why but your " I disliked that bike " made me laugh...😂
@@shovelheadffej He needed money so I bought it. He had a horrible paint job, well, quality paint just gaudy. He hopped up the motor without thinking things through so it was never perfect, always needed a wrench. I broke even when I sold it so to me that is taking a loss. Silver leaf eagles on the tanks so I dubbed it the Silver Duck!
Do you ever say the heck with it and just take a motor out and rebuild it from the ground up?
All the time...that's why I'm broke...if it's not smoking or knocking just keep riding it. 👍✌️
Runte Brook
Didn't you say your brother wanted it
Yes, and he was wanting the family deal..😆

Thank you Bender...👍👍👍✌️
