    You're one hell of a teacher, whether you believe it or not. That's sawing from someone who has been there and done that! Can't wait to see more from your channel. Seeing knowledge at work with your own eyes is the best way to learn how to do something!

    Has got to be the best video showing the saw, the operation, and the process along with the best camera position to see it all happen. Best I've seen.
    Great instructions, and great instructor. A great combination.

    Loved it! Where to open a log,is one of the things I struggle most with. Thanks for taking time out of your day, to show us how you do it. I would watch a whole series on this subject. Would really enjoy watching you saw some hardwoods.

      Appreciate the compliment. I have some videos up there of cutting poplar. Even though it is a hardwood I was sawing it more like pine as we were making 1x8s. We will get to some oaks and others in a bit. Keep watching. Thanks

    I like how you keep your dust hose lubricated so it won't wear out as quick!

      Lol That isn't intentional. I just don't like the idea of standing on concrete all day. You probably heard the rain on the roof as I was trying to explain everything.

    Really good video! I cut mostly large slabs and have only done dimensional lumber for my own use. Sometimes it h goes good, others not so much. You pointed out some of the errors I’ve made and some I hadn’t figured out yet. Thanks!!

    Good deal. its a lil harder than throwing a log on the bed Cutting quality lumber is prob the most important thing to a small sawmill. Its the details and being able to recognize them and c them that produce quality sawing. And sawing many, many, logs and paying attention to how they react to relieving pressure is vital to learning details. There is no short cut. I can promise that. AC

    I ordered a LT35 HD in December but won't be ready until this time next year. I have a great mentor in John Hogue, he is teaching me on his LT40, I have sawed twice on his mill. Great explanation of how you approached the log today. I followed everything you said but how were you able to determine that you had opened the faces to 12 1/4" inch without measuring it with a tape measure. I have TONS to learn and learn and learn. Great video.

    • @customsawyer2526

      My mill has accuset2 on it. I have it all programed into it. I'm also reading the ruler on the mill. You just can't see exactly where I'm looking in the video. I also know the width between the "wind chimes" as OTW calls them.

    • @samjensen3658
      @samjensen3658 3 роки тому +1

      Really helps to know that the diagonal of a 12" square is 17". So a 12" cant needs a minimum of a 17" log.

    • @customsawyer2526
      @customsawyer2526  3 роки тому +1

      @@samjensen3658 Mathematically you are correct. A rule of thumb I use is to add half of the largest face of the timber to the largest face of the timber and this is the smallest log I look for to make timbers. So a 12x12 I add 12+6=18'. This is just a general rule. Obviously if you need a 6x12 you can use a little smaller log. This is all dependent on the log being strait.

      I had disconnected it for a while. Hooked it back up when several customers would just walk in that end while I'm sawing. It gets a few to at least pause.
