This video is about how I orientate this log on the WoodMizer LT70 for the opening face or cut.

- I give a description and show one of the ways that works best for me when sawing soft wood. Hope this helps some that are new to sawmilling. If you have any questions hit me in the comments and I will try to answer them. Thanks for watching.
You're one hell of a teacher, whether you believe it or not. That's sawing from someone who has been there and done that! Can't wait to see more from your channel. Seeing knowledge at work with your own eyes is the best way to learn how to do something!
Thanks.
I echo that comment.
@@OutoftheWoods0623 thank you kind Sir
Has got to be the best video showing the saw, the operation, and the process along with the best camera position to see it all happen. Best I've seen.
Great instructions, and great instructor. A great combination.
Thanks
Saw my notification of your video at work, couldn't wait to get home to see it, now the family gets to view it with me on the living room TV!
Very informative to here it from the horses mouth.
Excellent explanation of what to look for & why!
You have many hrs under your belt, keep it up cowboy doing marvelous!🌲🌳👷♂️🤠👍👍💪💪🧡
Thanks
Nice demo, glad I found your UA-cam channel, 🙋🏻♂️
Loved it! Where to open a log,is one of the things I struggle most with. Thanks for taking time out of your day, to show us how you do it. I would watch a whole series on this subject. Would really enjoy watching you saw some hardwoods.
Appreciate the compliment. I have some videos up there of cutting poplar. Even though it is a hardwood I was sawing it more like pine as we were making 1x8s. We will get to some oaks and others in a bit. Keep watching. Thanks
I like how you keep your dust hose lubricated so it won't wear out as quick!
Lol That isn't intentional. I just don't like the idea of standing on concrete all day. You probably heard the rain on the roof as I was trying to explain everything.
@@customsawyer2526 I'm with you. Fortunately I have the opportunity to "start over" and will be moving to an elevated wood floor
Great video Jake. Looks like you and Robert are going to give Nathan some competition.
Nathan is the man when it comes to these videos. I'm just trying to share some of what I've learned sawing.
@@customsawyer2526 Keep making more videos. You have lots of experience that needs to be shared.
Good instructive video. Thanks for taking time to put it together. Good Camera person, too.
Thank you Sir
Really good video! I cut mostly large slabs and have only done dimensional lumber for my own use. Sometimes it h goes good, others not so much. You pointed out some of the errors I’ve made and some I hadn’t figured out yet. Thanks!!
Glad I could help.
What kind of mill do you run? What is considered a large slab?
Had to stop again, Thanks for passing along your knowledge! Those tips are something that could take a person years to learn on their own.
Very informative video. Thanks for the explanation of working around the stress in the log.
Appreciate that.
Great stuff! Nice work sir.
Thank you
Good deal. its a lil harder than throwing a log on the bed Cutting quality lumber is prob the most important thing to a small sawmill. Its the details and being able to recognize them and c them that produce quality sawing. And sawing many, many, logs and paying attention to how they react to relieving pressure is vital to learning details. There is no short cut. I can promise that. AC
Yes Sir. It takes time to gain the experience.
It was great meeting you yesterday.
Absolutely my pleasure. Look forward to many more
Great video. thanks!
Love your chip bucket!
Did you edge your jacket boards to 1x4 also?
Thanks, I know there stress in the log but haven’t had anyone show me how to line up the pith to make it go how I want it to.

I ordered a LT35 HD in December but won't be ready until this time next year. I have a great mentor in John Hogue, he is teaching me on his LT40, I have sawed twice on his mill. Great explanation of how you approached the log today. I followed everything you said but how were you able to determine that you had opened the faces to 12 1/4" inch without measuring it with a tape measure. I have TONS to learn and learn and learn. Great video.
My mill has accuset2 on it. I have it all programed into it. I'm also reading the ruler on the mill. You just can't see exactly where I'm looking in the video. I also know the width between the "wind chimes" as OTW calls them.
Really helps to know that the diagonal of a 12" square is 17". So a 12" cant needs a minimum of a 17" log.
@@samjensen3658 Mathematically you are correct. A rule of thumb I use is to add half of the largest face of the timber to the largest face of the timber and this is the smallest log I look for to make timbers. So a 12x12 I add 12+6=18'. This is just a general rule. Obviously if you need a 6x12 you can use a little smaller log. This is all dependent on the log being strait.
@@customsawyer2526 good tip 👍👍thank you, I will use that!
@@samjensen3658 Use away.
Very good video just had a bit of a hard time hearing at some points of the it
Yes Sir. I have a microphone ordered. That rain on a tin roof doesn't help the sound
Would help if you shut off the mill so some one could hear what you are saying
Working on getting a microphone. Covered everything I cut before the sawmill started. Appreciate the feedback.
I was watching it some more and what you are hearing is the rain on the roof. I'm still new to this video thing and sure hope to get better.
My wife beeps beeps on me all the time, I would never buy a machine that does the same.
I had disconnected it for a while. Hooked it back up when several customers would just walk in that end while I'm sawing. It gets a few to at least pause.
