Dwight covers these songs because he is paying tribute to those who came before him. He truly wants to keep country music alive. I also think he plays music that he likes. What is with all you haters? If you don't like him, don't watch. For me, I think his songwriting, singing, acting show a talent that is very rare. Hope you continue bringing us joy for a long time. I am a diehard DY fan and proud of it!
Jason Young, I agree 100% with you...came across this while looking for this song with my Dad during this cabrona pandemic. He's always liked this song by Mr. Horton & as a bonus I found Dwight singing it whom my Dad likes as well 👍. Good entertainment, making good memories with my Dad who turns 84 in October. Thank you UA-cam & my sister for installing the internet @ the beginning of this pandemic. ♥️💚 & ✌️ to all from small town USA, Pima, Arizona.
yes north to alaska and with winter here in the north country jacob bertrand yes we can be friends and stay warm and have a good time the winter olympics is here and bobo sled racing is here have a good time every one eat well and drink good and god bless american bob sled team bring home the gold !!
Wow... Don't know much about Dwight do ya. Dwight's original material was and is awesome. In many interviews Dwight praised the artists whose songs he covered and did so in his concerts before he would play them live. It was his way of keeping the old country new so the newer generations wouldn't forget the roots of country. In return, many old country artists like Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, George Jones, etc... praised Dwight for keeping their music alive and often collaborated with him.
I'm sorry I've never posted before, but the two below me who think Johnny Horton is spinning over in his grave are out of their minds. This is a great rendition of this song. I think Johnny is probably smiling ear to ear to hear that his music had such an influence on country music all these years later. You shouldn't hate so much. It's not that bad in life brother. Sorry I just couldn't believe someone would close their ears and mind so much.
Oh my, I never thought anyone could sing that as good as Johnny Horton, But Dwight just killed it. HE CAN REALLY sing that. I love It by Dwight, he is good, good & better, THE BEST.
What I love about Dwight Yoakam is that he stays true to HIS music. It is a revamped version of a great song. I could listen to both over and over and will never get tired of "America's Music".
Is he hiccuppin on cue? Anyway, real cool version. My dad, who's from New Jersey, wrote this tune back when he was a copywriter for 20th Century Fox in NYC in the 50's/60's. (He also wrote "Sink The Bismarck".) All them movie songs and sheet music about the trials and tribs of the tough old rugged west were written by guys in apartments in New York City. But so the hail what: they're great songs and this is a great version!
Dwight might be the only really big country star that is a real country singer. This is great stuff. God bless Dwight Yoakam. And RIP Buck - we miss you so much.
yes he does! a n y t h I n g ! un be frickin' leavable. Love any cover he does. Claudette, If I were a carpenter- with Allison Krauss. The Man has Style and class and has always been humble enough to thank those that went before him. Take notice generation Me. Its not about the selfie...
I think you would have to include Rick Springfield as well. Saw him 3 times in concert - very good. His performance in the movie "Nick Knight" was amazing, and the movie is my favorite vampire movie of all time. I have seen Dwight once in concert - awesome, played 3 hrs.
Great imagery Dwight, wow! you can almost see the Huskeys! A great version of the song which I've always loved by Johnny Horton, Thank you. I think you are a great performer.
that little "like" button is huge understatement; DY shd have his own button that maybe reads "obsessed, addicted, fixated and don't want intervention. Just leave me alone with my blessed high.
I had the great plaisur of meeting him, verry kind man..and he act just like you are me...the dosent try to be somebody... he's fin just like he is........and by the way so HOT. oufffff

I actually like his cover better than Johnny Horton'sJMO
Johnny H is truly great, but Dwight's kinda not human, he's so good. How exactly does he do it?
Beautiful voice.
So lucky to see and hear Dwight when he came to Melbourne Australia some years back. A great talent who will be appreciated years from now.

Mr Yoakam's voice simply does things that others cannot. Good things, fortunately. He is a phenomenon. Nice touch with the classics, too.

Love you Dwight. You do this song justice! I'm an Alaskan gal.
Love listening to Dwight, great voice, and he puts a unique phrasing on anything he sings.
Dwight if your reading this you need to come up to Fairbanks, Alaska. So I can see you in person.
Loved any song Dwight sings love him💕💕💕💕
Great version of this song. Johnny Horton would be proud of Dwight's version of this song.
Pete Anderson & Don Rich - can't beat them.
Dwight is the ONLY singer who makes love to his songs. He seduces everything he sings.
Dwight Yokam does a good job on this. Great Song. Great movie. I think both Johnny and the Duke would aprove
Thank you for this awesome video.
Oh Dwight ,this is killer version..love it so much, love you too. Thank you for your singing
That my favorite song
yes he does! a n y t h I n g ! un be frickin' leavable. Love any cover he does. Claudette, If I were a carpenter- with Allison Krauss. The Man has Style and class and has always been humble enough to thank those that went before him. Take notice generation Me. Its not about the selfie...
Love how Dwight does that catch in his voice like the great Johnny Horton did.
Yes , excellent vocal effort . I believe AC/DC s Bon Scott was influenced by Horton as the same " catch " can be heard in many of his recordings
Great country song and great country singer !
He sings it his way and thats the respect thats earned, no disrespect to anyone, many versions of this song and this is D.W.'s, ...nice!!!!
fantastic
I think you would have to include Rick Springfield as well. Saw him 3 times in concert - very good. His performance in the movie "Nick Knight" was amazing, and the movie is my favorite vampire movie of all time. I have seen Dwight once in concert - awesome, played 3 hrs.
Dwight Yoakam is a very special talent

Very nice - Great version's - Dwight's Country Style :)
I need to go to Alaska good gold there
awesome
Dwight does the best version of Ring of Fire. Never liked this song until I heard him sing it.
Loved Johnny Horton version. But sometimes there’s has to be a few changes to make people stand up listen. To just how great this music really is.
This contry music .
I hate to admit it, but the more I listen to this, I think I like the Dwight version more than I do the Johnny version.
that little "like" button is huge understatement; DY shd have his own button that maybe reads "obsessed, addicted, fixated and don't want intervention. Just leave me alone with my blessed high.
I miss that low twangy baritone guitar from the recording. Pete looks like he’s playing an acoustic here instead.
Damn,dwights got an awesome voice.
aww memories..
He's a natural to cover Johnny Horton
It's as good as it gets.
Dwight is also an underrated guitarist
I had the great plaisur of meeting him, verry kind man..and he act just like you are me...the dosent try to be somebody... he's fin just like he is........and by the way so HOT. oufffff
I'm with you Jason.
That's the best scene from my all-time favorite movie. "Stay away from me you old buzzard."
Muito lindo!!
Why would he want to sing like Johnny Horton? He's Dwight Yoakam not Johnny Horton. He's not trying to be Johnny Horton, he's paying tribute to him.
best country sing by a country mile.
@lonz46 Agree. Dwight will be remembered long after Garth Brooks.
PETE ANDERSON ROCKS!!!!
@trevcurtis1 You think I picked the right 4?
@jrobjer I don't think Johnny is touring anymore. Do it's Dwight or nothing. I choose Dwight.
forever DY.
Pete Anderson is to Dwight as Don Rich was to Buck.
+Valerie Curtis
right on
absolutely. His music was never the same after they split.
