Dwight is a national treasure !! What an artist ! No wonder Johnny Cash said he was his favorite modern day musician .
Even the Beach Boys would tip their hat to this rendering of "Sloop John B"
Dwight's voice and 4 other guys who all just absolutely nail it. The mandolin guy was superb.
the accordian makes it

The ones that are saying this is bad have no clue to real sound of music Dwight can take any song out there and turn it to gold way to go Dwight you never stop amazing me (the best country music singer from Kentucky)
born in ohio
I don't want to repeat myself but why does he not put this on a cd???? Totally awesome!!!!!
I don't know, but I would buy it. Note to Dwight..
I've listened to this probably 150 times already...just fantastic!!!
Me too!!!!
me also, i like it.
me three!!!!!!!!! fantastic
151 times here,I win
Yes. I can listen to This everyday
The man could sing the phone book and make it a hit! Pure talent!!!
I can't get enough of this arrangement. You killed this one Dwight!
Very good cover for the fBeach Boys. Excellant
No doubt. What a ' Ballsy" move to cover a signature tune from one of greatest albums (Pet Sounds) of all time. I don't think it can be done any better. In regards to the arrangement? That's award winning. It's up there with the greatest like Led Zepplin. " Fool in the rain" or queen and Bohemian Rhapsody@@RobHendrix-ll2pj
Dwights cover of purple rain is pretty damn good too! @PaulRobert474
Always loved this song now I love it more. Harmonizing is brilliant and the band are fantastic. Mandolin playing exceptional.
That's called money baby! Look at the instruments, clothing and talent.Dwight is first class as always. What a sound and badass song.🎉👍
One of my all time favourite versions of this song!
Beautiful take on Sloop John B
Amazing singer just love all his music🇨🇮🇨🇮
His arrangements of covers have always been great 🎶🎶🎵😊❤
Hello shaunna, how're you doing, I hope you are doing fine. I'm Roy from Houston, Texas. Where are you from? You seems like a real Country girl😊🌹
How could I have missed this all these years...what an awesome song!
Absolutely perfect blend of voices and music.
Fantastic version.....Love it
this is the best verson i have heard
The original version of this is OK, but Dwight and the band have given it LIFE!!! This is absolutely amazing!!! Thanks for the remake Dwight!
The Beach Boys did not record the original nor were they even alive at the the time, which according to Wikipedia was circa 1916, as a Bahamanian sea shanty. Here's a recording from 1935, by the Cleveland Simmons Group. ua-cam.com/video/LwcGyvhuMQg/v-deo.html
@@robertrichman6873 The original writer could have chiseled it on a cave wall, but it is most famously known as a song by the Beach Boys back in 1966. No matter who wrote it or it's origin, many artists have sang it but none have made it famous like the Beach Boys and more recently Dwight Yokum who has the best version to date, in my opinion.
@@kaptinkuntry3092 No argument there, however regardless of what you say being true, and I would agree with you, it was imo, worth pointing out as something others might find interesting. I apologize if how it was expressed came off as contentious or snarky - that wasn't my intention.
I'd like to add that The Kingston Trio covered this, too, and they are who inspired Brian Wilson to give it another arrangement.
@floraline Actually it was Beach Boy Alan Jardine who took the Kingston Trio version to Brian and asked him about the Boys performing it . I have seen the original Beach Boys in concert 12 times including the 50th reunion in 2012 and Brian and his band , also 12 times . Of course they perform Sloop John B each time . I am not a country music fan , however I was I pressed at his version . Hats Off to Dwight Yoakum
Love Dwight's version of this song he gets better and better Xx 🎸💖🥰
Beautiful.
I saw him in concert back in October and he put on a spectacular show! If you get a chance to see him go!
I've seen him twice and both times he has been amazing.
I did... He is amazing!!!
This gets better every time I hear it.
Yes!
Yep!
This needs to be released as a single...or at least on an album.
Yes
Tommy G I agree!
I live this song I could listen to him al day .
He really does a great job with this song.i can not get a nuff of it .
right on!
What a talent
They make it look so effortless. Incredible performance and beautiful version.
Another choice of an good old song from BB! Good to listen by running and pacemaker sound! 👌👍😎😉🏃♂️
Love this version of this song!
Dwight is a great singer and great actor....mucho respect...one of my favoutite people in the world.
So absolutely in a league of his own
Could listen to this all day
I love Dwight. He's always
been my favorite country singer since the early 80s This song was originally a traditional folk song from The Bahamas, "The John B. Sails", taken from Carl Sandburg's 1927 collection of folk songs. The Kingston Trio did the first version that I heard and heavily influenced Al Jardine to suggest it to the Beach Boys.
64JBran Hanks Fair the information
64JBran Always love the music anecdotes
He’s Fantastic - Love All His Music!!! He Can Sing Anything!!
Help I can't quit listening to this song
ME NEITHER!!!! Must find or set up some kinda group therapy - like AA (DYA?) lol
yeah this song and this version of it are just fantastic. both just pure gems!!!
Me neither! Love this version!!
Same!!!
Well, like me, don't stop listening!
I love country music but I've never been a Dwight Yokum fan but I gotta admit he brought it on this song. I've never heard the Sloop John B sang with a country twang. I must give Dwight Yokum props for this rendition.
Beautiful version men, so good.
I’ve watched this rendition so many times already and I still can’t get enough. Masterfully done.
Dwight did something I didn't think was possible... he made a better version of this song than the Beach Boys!!!!!!
Wasn't a beach boys Original song or the Kingston trios! Bahamian folk song
You are joking?
The song was original Bahamas Folk song. Do some googleing
Ole Dwight puts another twist on it though.... and good at that!
@@garvdarb Who cares? It was the Beach Boys who made it famous.
The guy on the accordion reminds me of Balki. lol Thanks to whoever shared this. Love to hear Dwight sing.
Still appreciating this in 2024. What a legend Dwight is.
Yes this in 2024
Sou fã desse Americano.Ele é top na música e nos filmes!
Love the (mandolin ?) guy. He has been with DY for a while. I would like to know his name.

I love Dwight Yoakam's music!! His voice never changes.
What I really miss is his smiles. -- especially when he was making his sexy movements❤
He has always been a handsome man --and like a fine wine, he is aging to perfection.
At 67, his energy and enthusiasm are ❤amazing plus he is still downright sexy!!
No one else can wear his jeans like that and they still fit just right!! amazing!
just wish he would smile more!!❤
Dwight was good. He didn't get the recognition he deserved. He's also a good TV actor 👍👍
Buck made a lot of fun of him, losing his hair
@@52843in I think buck was just jealous, because Dwight could out being him😃😃
The calmness in that recording studio is amazing. It is almost unsettling. Inspirational and a great video!
I keep coming back to this incredible performance to enjoy..Dwight is as always incredible, and Eugene Edwards and the rest of the band are perfect..
Just amazin... 8 years this has been layin around here on YT and I'm just now finding it...how embarrassing...🎼🖤
It's the whoopin that gets ya!😄
Great song and voices I love to hear Dwight
Fantastic arrangement Great job better than any country garbage out today
This is the best version of this song in my opinion
😂
I agree
These dudes can bring it. The last part where the mandolin plays note by note, I think I would have folded under the pressure.........lol
His mandolin player is also one of his guitar players. I've see Dwight Yoakam twice in concert and both times that guitar/mandolin player has jammed out on any thing he plays.
He's one of the best if met a lot of best bands thar on the top
The harmony is fantastic Dwight has a super style and voice.
Favorite version! No telling how many times I've listened.
They are playing this at my funeral.
I never get tired of listening to Dwight sing. Amazing singer.
Ditto that !
Me also
I never thought anyone could ever come remotely close to ever touching the beach Boys version and harmonies.....totally awesome
My thoughts exactly.
Totally rocked it
If anyone could have done it Dwight would be the one . More talent in his little finger than most people would ever have in a lifetime
This is first on my playlist, every day. This version just brings this song, to a new level. Dwight, just such a massive talent. Anything he does, Luv Luv him. Acting, writing, singing. God even interviews, He stands alone. In my estimation, He is the best ever. Love from Ireland, to all you Dwight fans. 🇮🇪💚

This is absolutely amazing if anybody could prove this song off it's Dwight yoakam it's an old song but it's fantastic that he wants to bring it back I hope everybody listens to this song it's a cool song the guy on the mandolin he's fantastic I don't know where Dwight got him from he's a keeper thank you Dwight thank you for bringing us your great music love you and the band Pauline
Personally, I don't think there is a better rendition of this song!
I agree
Breathed new life into a classic!
The mandolin solo is perfect .
After watching the horrible CMA show. This style of real country singers is badly needed!
The genre is being destroyed!
This is a very good performances of them .
Yes they are .
This is the equivalent of Madonna doing American Pie
@@John-ik2eg I remember Big & Rich didn't help. Rock started to filter in. Record companies wanted cross over songs. Luckily Rap didn't filter in but they tried.
Bring back Johnny, Waylon, Marty and Buck.
The best version ever
I love Dwight and his singing, always have and always will. xoxo
Still here in 2020. Anybody else? Love the Bakersfield twist on this sea shanty.
Me is here and listening
I seen him in concert and it was of the best ones I’ve ever seen,he sang for one hour or more with no long talking in between songs,we got our money’s worth.
Absolutely love Dwight's version of this!!!! Well geeezzzz I love Dwight's version of anything! The man is awesome, doesn't get any better than this! Except sure wish Buck was still around, they were the the best together!❤💞⚘😥
hell yea! Dwight will always be the man
no other country artists like this anymore, simply fantastic
Holla! Where else can we be in this screwed up world we’re living in. DY makes me happy no matter what!
I was wondering how he was going to make a fantastic song sound brilliant.
Well he does things his way, very easy ...
I wasn’t expecting this! Wow this is so good!
That Eugene is magical ❤️
Turn him on, turn him up, turn him loose! My kinda country legend!
Música linda demais. 🤣😄😃🤣
Dwight Yoakam is awesome.
I just can’t get behind this version of Sloop John B. I’m a forever Dwight fan. That being said, I was in the Navy from ‘89-93. Sloop John B was my song…just The Beach Boys tune and harmony made it work. In ‘97, I married Dwight’s brother Ron. But that’s a story for another time. Dwight’s music and legacy is untouchable, but nothing can compare to the original Sloop John B.
Dwight is a generational talent, Sloop John B has never been so brilliantly redone.
agree 100%
That mandolin player...Damn he's good!
Eugene Edwards, incredible talent. Plays more than the mandolin.
He is an incredible guitar player as well. Pure talent.
Good with an Uppercase G! Makes the song, or at least carries it's own weight. NICE!
@@whelpdog1 I seen Dwight last Summer and Eugene is an entertainer all in himself.
He's also very Hot lol
There is still a place in music for an accordion.
Its beautiful back up
I can’t tell you that I really don’t know how many times I’m gonna listen to the song but it’s gonna be a lot. This is the first time I heard a song on UA-cam at the end I start clapping! Bravo Dwight😀😃😅
He added some good stuff to that already good tune.
I don't have the words to describe how much I love this version, Dwight always has been and always will be a favorite in my book
Dwight bean going 4 years same stile same moves same songs I love Dwight Dwight can sing anything wan it would sound good go Dwight u gave me my childhood love u ❤️💖💕🌹

Oh I think I love this shit more every time I hear it. I always LOVED that song. I also have always loved Dwight. What an unlikely yet perfect fit.
exactly. this song is deadly. every version. check spotify. i got drunk one night and found 50 versions of this joint. lol so funny you posted yesterday
@@markreynolds203 Some folks think songs need more cowbell. I always think songs need more acoustic steel string guitar, more mandolin, and more accordian.

I also think i like this shit and i don't know why ??? I also loved this song and again don't know why ??? Life I guess ???

Wish he would put this on an album!
It sure is!
Came across
He's really mad about that corn.
How could over a thousand people not like this, must be tone deaf!!
More I listen this song more I love it with the nice sound of Dwight's guitar, the beautiful mandolin sound , nice backing accordion and soft bass and drum beat. Awesome
That voice!
Watched this 3 times. Well done sir! 👍
Is there a cover this man can’t absolutely kill?! I question this one but it’s damn good. I love this man!
Ive commented previously. But this " SloopJohn B" simply blows me away. They should be so proud ! They , all of them are amazing ♡
I second that!
I know- I mean I want to comment over and over because this is so incredible- I only started watching and listening to D.Y. recently and it's mostly been from that lovely live show where he, well, he does some interesting dancing... 1988? anyway, he's brilliant. yup. okay.

Beautiful song
LYRICS
We come on the sloop John B
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night
Got into a fight
Well I feel so broke up
I want to go home
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up
I wanna go home
The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff John Stone
Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
(Hoist up the John B's sail)
Hoist up the John B
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home
The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why don't they let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
Absolutely brilliant, makes the hair stand on the back of my neck, the sound of the mandolin and the accordion are only magnificent
Awesome.. Dwight is the keeper of the flame of the Bakersfield sound
No doubt about it. That Bakersfield sound is something that lives in my soul.
One of the best
Dwight just gets up and walks away like, there, Eat your Heart out Brian Wilson!
Absolutely love Dwight and he nailed it, as expected. Guy has one of the best voices in the last 50 years.
I much prefer seeing / listening to a performer in a "quiet" venue. This is awesome. No stupid flashing lights or distracting backdrops. Yeah!!! Play the music
Turn him on, turn him up, turn him loose!
Saw Dwight at Atlanta symphony hall pretty amazing
he doesn't need the stupid shit because he can actually sing. An art lost to many of today's A list performers.
