My mandatory psychology classes in high school made me sick to my stomach for a long time. I learned about animal torture, people who tried to advocate for six-year-olds having sex with each other, advocates for lobotomy, bestiality, pedophilia etc. I learned about gross experiments with animals or children that the so called experts of the field talked about with such awe and tenderness that they could've been talking about their own wedding day. They loved it. It was so sick. It was wild. I perfectly understand the importance of profound understanding of human psyche, but psychology as a field of science has made such huge mistakes and its students and "experts" and pioneers have at times erred and wronged so horribly that I will forever have my guard up a tiny bit when someone claims to be an expert of psychology.

The kinsey scale is problematic as well. I learned about it in a human sexuality class. The professor was telling the students that a man is not gay if he fantasize about men while having sex with his wife. She also brought in a huge man dressed as a woman into class to tell us all that he is now a lesbian woman. He left his wife and children to become a lesbian woman. I instantly knew it was all BS.
In my current experience in child development, Freud is mentioned for some of his contributions but he isn't seen as he was years before when I first took child dev. I think he should be completely removed from today's classes. If he is mentioned it should only be on how he influenced other theorists work and to expose the sicko he truly was.

When Freud came to the US, the divorce rate was 1% and the majority of men were consummating the marriage days or even weeks _after_ the wedding. Lol relax , I went to university and they introduced us to all literature, we studied their framing and theory of philosophy, they didn't brainwash us and idolize him lmaooo. I think lots of u are confused about what happens in educational settings, and I'm also worried for those of you who preach about indoctrination. Simply being introduced and knowing about different concepts and perspectives does not mean you have to change your own perspectives, and if you are that easily swayed after simply being introduced to a new topic, I'm very concerned for you lol . Expand your horizons, friend , there's a great big world out there, you can learn and explore literature and history and dont have to be afraid of knowledge lmao.

This is why it is important to be educated in a field before you speak about it. If you take psychology courses at university, you’ll know that Freud’s work is mentioned. Though it is more so as a starting point, as it is also acknowledged at university that many of his theories have been debunked in modern psychology. Freud’s work is NOT taught as fact today.

Sigmund may have been the same way but it unfortunately and fortunately paved the way for us to understand humans, our brains, and why we are the way we are. Could be why he did drugs too.

Freud definitely had major psychosexual hangups - although I’m not sure that I can agree with the idea that he was homosexual, as Freud thought that exclusive homosexuality was developmental aberration, but not necessarily shameful or harmful.
He also admitted to having sexual feelings for his mother as a young child.
Freud believed that humans were basically bisexual, but grew away from homosexuality as they matured and developed deep attractions and feelings for the opposite sex.

I remember being taught in a political science course at UCLA that German-American political theorist Herbert Marcuse “reinterpreted” Sigmund Freud and claimed all political activity was a redirection of sexual energy. And we students were supposed to accept this dubious assertion without question. Even as a 20-year-old I was wise enough to sense the perversion being forced upon us and, apart from the requisite regurgitation of the nonsense on a final exam, I completely rejected the theory.

I worked in mental health for 23 years and I am not licensed but I dedicated many many years to educating myself and read for 10 years, aside from learning and gaining expert experience from one of the best board certified psychiatrist. Sadly and honestly you can count on maybe 10% of mental health professionals being professional, ethical or even normal individuals because I was exposed to many and I mean many and it was astounding to see a profession so very dysfunctional and to some degree sick. I love to help people and we live in a country where nobody cares about anybody and it’s all driven by money not human feelings. From children to adults the government pours millions of dollars to the industry which only takes it and keeps most of it and of course they comply with what the law requires just for looks. It’s a number game. But I will say you are completely correct as I have been saying for years that after reading his theories I found him to be a very MENTALLY ILL INDIVIDUAL. Trust these words, Mental Health (with some exceptions) is not what it’s portrayed to be at all, it’s a fallacy. God help us 🙏🏻
