  • Join us for a comprehensive AMP1 experience in our "Complete AMP1 Course" during our test weeks. We invite all amp fanatics, AMP1 users and new testers to a special 4-episode series on Academy of Tone, where Thomas and his team will demonstrate and explain everything about AMP1: sounds, setups, and the user insights they've gathered over the years. Of course, these insights can also be applied to other amplifiers, provided they offer similar features.
    In the first episode of our test weeks, Thomas is joined by Valeska for a deep dive into the full spectrum of AMP1 Mercury and Iridium Edition sounds, spanning from the '50s to today's metal.
    With years of experience, Thomas will explain how the AMP1 works and highlight special features you might not know about to help you get the most out of your AMP1. He will show some A/B comparisons with amp classics like JCM800, Plexi, Fender, Rectifier, SLO 100, AC30, EVH, Steve Stevens, SRV, Fryette...
    Thomas will demonstrate a variety of iconic AMP1 sounds, comparing the individual channels-CLEAN, VINTAGE, CLASSIC, and MODERN-of the Mercury and Iridium editions side by side. He'll share strategies for dialing in specific tones and maximizing the tonal potential of your AMP1. You'll learn about GAIN and how effectively using Gain, when to use the boost or switch to lo-Gain mode, and how to utilize individual Gain modes.
    Discover how to „voice“ a sound by balancing the Tone controls and Custom control tones of each channel.
    Understand the impact of the player, the guitar, the amp, and the speaker or speaker simulation on the overall sound. Thomas will provide numerous ideas on how to enhance your tone using the AMP1’s features, also giving some advice for the use of additional pedals if it´s essential for specific tones.
    Don't miss this opportunity to unlock the full potential of your AMP1 and learn how to get the best from your amp. Discover why the AMP1 is the perfect amp for gigs, recording, and home use-this amp can do it all.

    Thanks for joining in on this episode where we welcome our new AMP1 testers, that Valeska brought to the party! I hope I could give some information and insights on what AMP1 is, and how it sounds. This amp is so flexible and offers tons of options. Therefore I tried to share some strategies on how to dial in Tones. I’m totally aware that it all starts with the player. As we all have a different touch, use different guitars and setups, we need to refine any setting to our personal taste.
    Feel free to ask any questions on sound of AMP1 here! I will then answer these and prepare the next episode based on your questions. I’m happy to do Sounds on request…
    It’s always good to be challenged ….😊😂😊
    See you next week!
    Cheers, Thomas
    P.s. sorry I could not detect the 1 in the intro song-so I was lost, playing some lost notes 😂😂😂😂

      Hey Thomas, nice to see you share the video of John playing the amp 1 at the beginning. I've often talked about the amp 1 to him over the last few years and I brought it along with me last time we met up - just told him to have a play around with it and spend a bit of time trying stuff out. He's recently been experimenting with more marshal voiced amps after previously preferring Mesa or dumble style so I think it was a good time for him to try it out. He's planning to gig it this weekend but so far I think he's quite impressed with what it can do

      @@BluGuitar Thank you for answering! I didn't express what I wanted clearly. I mostly use, since ever (and probably forever...), the most clean/crystaline amps possible (because of the guitars I use), but the Amp1, looks like a great solution, also, to people who use huge stacks (but only mic one speaker !), or for those who use fake stacks of Marshalls. Overall, an overlookede solution, you know guitarists! I saw one passing, second hand, but hadn't the occasion to try it and then it was gone. I'll definetly will try one in the future! I actually try to get the groove me self first.
      That is why I move my body to the rhythm, so all my moves should fall into place in the groove. That gives me confidence - especially when I do fills…
      But maybe you noticed that I could not find the real 1 in the intro… ;-)
      I could not hear exactly what that bass was playing, so I kind of turned the beat around… lol

    Hello Thomas, I love Amp1 Mercury and BluBox…. They have been my amp to go (and speaker sim) for 6 years. I’ve achieved a tone that I love, but now I will like to tweak a little bit the Mercury to get more “fenderish” sound like the Super Reverb, Twin Reverb and Vibroverb. Could you show to get, at least, one of them? Thank you so much.

    Hi Thomas, I absolutely love the Fatcab but there are times I would like a more vintage-y Greenback type of sound. As there is a big risk of blowing a single G12M25 at band volume levels, is there a higher powered speaker would you pick for this? Sacrilege I know 😅

    • @BluGuitar

      That’s a tough question! I love greenbacks, Played them and killed them.

    Is there a shorter video where you show how to balance the channels?
    I use the mercury on 3 channels right now. Clean, vintage and modern. I have the modern Set up the way i like it because i play it the most, but when i switch to the others, especially vintage the Sound is thin and bright even with treble down low. I find it super hard to find a Balance between the channels to make all of them sound great when changing between them in real time without reasjusting the knobs. Any tips?

    • @BluGuitar
      @BluGuitar  16 днів тому +1

      Try to dial in the vintage first, and make that sound thicker by using less treble. Then adjust the Modern by using the custom control towards the middle position/clockwise to get more bite.
      Next you are probably missing some sparkle in the clean channel: use less clean volume, make sure the custom control Clean Tone is all the way up…

    Well I built tube amps for a living @ Dobbs Amplifier (Lee Dobbs) and it’s only within the past couple years I have been willing to admit that this would really be possible one day.
    I don’t have one yet but I’ve followed long enough that I am shopping now.
    I want to replace the ‘69 SuperBass 100 and JTM 45/100. If that is really ALL I care about doing, what is the best choice? Mercury or “Silver”?
    I’d appreciate any opinion on this. All the best!
    Lee

    • @BluGuitar
      @BluGuitar  10 днів тому +1

      @@leewalton6882 Hi Lee, I believe both AMP1 versions can give you that vintage Marshall tone. The silver is has more sag-maybe gives you more of a lower powered amp feel. As you mentioned 2 100 watts Marshall amps I assume you choose those because there are not too saggy.
      Therefore my conclusion would be Mercury…
      And Lo gain mode ( press and hold tge middle footswitch) blinking indicates that you are in Lo gain mode…
      Make sure the master is used like on these Marshalls: put it at 6-8 for the headroom and punch to match the Marshalls.
      Please let me know your results!

JTM super amplifier and super bass both have a little of that loose bottom but as you know it happens differently from a 45. Yrs I think you’re right.
      I have a feeling when all is done I’ll end up with one of each :-)

    Are there any recommendations on how best to create sounds with Mercury and Blubox if you only play in-ear? How would Thomas Blug do that?
    what is a good reference to create the guitar sound I like? And how can you ensure that this sound is coming 1:1 to the mixing station as a solid base?

    • @BluGuitar
      @BluGuitar  17 днів тому +1

      If you use only BluBOX and AMP1, you are using the same signal for you and the PA. That means exactly the same sound for you and the audience.
      I would choose a cabinet from the BluBOX first that is used for all of your sounds not changed on a gig. Why? It’s like that cabinet that gives your tone a consistent character, and puts your guitar in a place in the mix.
      Then all tones (channels and their settings) need to be adjusted to that cabinet. Just think “old school” there’s a cabinet and you dial in the different sounds so it matches that cabinet. Once found the right settings, It simply works brilliantly.
      E.g: I grew up with a Marshall 4x12”-my favorite cabinet is stack 1970.
