Fun fact, Nathan Peterman's Offensive Coordinator in the year that Pitt's offense was going wild was...Matt Canada. I'm pretty sure that's the season Pitt was #1 in the nation in rushing. That season fooled a lot of NFL decision makers, it seems. James Conner is legit, though.

He's a good scout team QB and balls out in the preseason. He's mobile and has a decent arm ao he can imitate really any QB you could go against. Throwing picks isn't a big deal when you're the scout team QB.
There have been lots of Petermans in the league, guys who just couldn’t make that next step into the pros. The two you mention were top draft picks who couldn’t. Don’t really compare. Plus if they did what he did in a game they would have gotten more opportunity to figure it out and not been cut from the team.
He lost out on the backup quarterback job in Chicago to an UDFA from a Division 2 school. That should tell you something. Granted, it was Tyson Bagent, but still.
I've been a Bills fan since about 2006 and I've gotten used to seeing some strange things. The Nathan Peterman days were the most enigmatic I can remember as a fan. What floored me was how many Bills fans I saw - at the end of the 2017 season after the San Diego game and after throwing away our final chance to compete in the first playoff game in 17 years - that were legitimately excited about getting rid of Tyrod Taylor and seeing Nathan Peterman start the next season. I even remember a few people commenting on Facebook posts around the draft wondering why we'd taken Josh Allen because we need to give Peterman "a real shot."

You got promising prospects who are buried on the depth chart and just never get their shot. Then you got guys like Nathan Peterman who just can't help but fall ass backwards onto the field
Last comment - You said the Bears blowout was the best game of his career, but you forgot to mention the snow bowl game vs the Colts he started (and was winning) until he got injured just before the 4th quarter. Bills did end up winning in OT though.
Atlanta signed him to the practice squad yesterday. At the very least, he's a second veteran on the roster to help Penix get ready for the NFL, though I'm not entirely sure how helpful he'd be.
I could see NFL teams telling themselves that at least half of the picks he threw were the WR's fault. Watching at 7:29 and seeing Kelvin Benjamin having stone hands kind of confirmed that for me lmao
Just going to put this out there - The team (and McDermott) really screwed him over with that Chargers game. Bills had no weapons (I think Kelvin Benjamin was their "best" WR, and he got injured right away), it was a cross country away game against one of the best pass rushes in the league, and the OL was getting bullied around. Just rewatching those pics made me remember how screwed he was. O-linemen being pushed into him every throw, constant pressure, guys not catching passes that hit them in the hands - being tipped to DBs, etc. Maybe the players were mad at McDermott for benching Tyrod & let San Diego take it out on Peterman 😅
By all accounts, Nathan Peterman appears to be a good guy and a good teammate. Maybe he’s one of those guys that’s intellectually sound with football but the talent just doesn’t transfer over. Perhaps that’s why he keeps getting backup jobs.
To be fair. The Bills didn't start Peter an because he outplayed Josh Allen. The Bills plan all along was that Josh Allen would sit for most or all of the first year. The problem is Kevin Kolb tore his acl on a wet floor mat and Peterman was pressed into service to, predictably, implode
