The ending was so baffling. Why tell Brenda about the summer? They didn't do it to help her, they did it to clear their own conscious and in the process they just kicked Brenda while she was down. They humiliated that poor girl. And the gaslighting hurt "hey Brenda, lets start over and be friends".

this is one of the funniest scenes in the whole show, at the end- brenda snaps DON'T touch me, lol! and then dylan yells at her all sarcastic- we OWE it you bren, like it's her fault for some reason. on top of all that, there's no reason to tell her about the summer in the first place- it's like the show just wants to see how much it can hurt brenda, and then twist the knife in deeper. it's kind of hilarious

@@dylanleff373 Pretty much. No one wanted to work with her, so it showed on screen as well. Shannen was going through some sort of phase. But the fact that Luke did not want to work with her is a clear indication of the Dylan/Brenda story. Didn't Brenda not like the fact that he did not want to go to school or something? I mean, there was always something she did not like about him, it is not like their relationship was ideal. She did have her doubts about Dylan. They were not meant to stay together long. When we hear he "goes back to her" is just a means to keep Brenda in the show in some fashion, which perhaps they should not have. The Walsh twins offer a means for Kelly/Dylan to get together which is customary for soul mates from what I've read, and for each to grow that way. If they got together when older, it would work because of all the things learned along the way.

He says he always wanted Kelly. It was always Kelly these two do the most growth throughout the show. Dylan was introduced as dark and deep, Kelly light and shallow, yet what each goes through brings them together. Interesting to watch.
Good point . Also, birds of a feather .... they have a similar upbringing and they understood each other given they both had messed up parents . They were interesting but Kelly was always so meek in front of Brenda ( even before the cheating ). That was annoying .
@@shafaqagha4010 yes, true. What I like about the Kelly character is that she really grew into her own woman as the show progressed and was less meek toward the end and more strong. She did have her weaknesses, as did he, but she learned from them and grew from them. They do make a good couple if they’d both chill. It’s obvious they love each other and they are a focus on the show. What Kelly needs to see from Dylan is that she’s not taken for granted. That’s pretty much it. I know this post is long, but I’ve analyzed this couple, hence our fascination with them.

And like you said all of Brenda's family & friends acted as if this was ok & Brenda should just get over it & deal. Not realistic.
Actually it is realistic that they side with Kelly. At least the friends will. I noticed when a person is in a serious relationship they spend less time with friends. Like Brenda did. Kelly was single most of the time. Had tight bond with Steve. David was her stepbrother. And Donna friend/stepbrother girlfriend.
I love how Dylan had zero f*cks to give about telling Brenda, lol. Even when he was telling Brandon he wouldn't see him around Brenda anymore, Dylan's attitude was like, "It is what it is." I love how he asked Kelly, "What, you want to pretend there's nothing going on between us just so Brenda will keep _talking_ to us?" He knew who and what he wanted, and he wasn't going to let anything or anyone stop him!

Brenda fans also like to point out that Dylan and Kelly aren’t a couple on the new 90210. Well sorry but the new 90210 wasn’t created by Aaron spelling or the same writers. First saying they shouldn’t have made Dylan abandon his own son after the situation with his dad and two they were furious the new writers killed off Kelly’s Mum. Dylan turned into such a sleazy jerk in Season 3. I admit that he had sexual chemistry with Kelly, but I didn't buy them as a couple at all. The show had spent ages showing his feelings for Brenda as true love, and the only reason Dylan/Kelly happened is because Luke Perry requested it. The way Dylan speaks to Brenda in this scene is so cruel.

actually Shannon was still one the show for a whole other season after that, so the reason they broke them up is that Perry and Doherty couldn't stand each other as she clashed with all of her cast members except Tori at the time.
I grew up watching 90210 and I watched it all the way to it finish and I gotta be honest Dylan and Kelly were my favorite couples of all time and that show what I am surprised about that show was that I always assumed that it was going to be Dylan and Kelly getting married but even though they did not get married what I loved about it that they still ended up together

A lot of people seem to like Dylan with Brenda, and Kelly with Brandon...but I always liked Dylan and Kelly best. I didn't actually start watching until about half way through season 4 because I was young when the show first started. So my early memories are of Dylan and Kelly together in season 4, and Dylan pining over Kelly in season 5. I was so sad when Kelly didn't pick Dylan at the end of season 5. :(
U know even though Dylan and Kelly annoy the shit out of me in season 3 I’m starting to think he was more in love with Kelly then Brenda, including season 4 and the last few seasons. The whole soulmates thing and saying he always wanted her the whole time through high school was bullshit because he could have dated her anyy time throughout high school since he knew she liked him, but no, he chose to be with Brenda then. but him and Kelly were always being drawn back to each other throughout the last 2 seasons. it was like no matter who they dated, they would always find their way back to each other, like there was always a force pushing them together. They did fight a ton throughout all their time together, but they did mature a lot in the end, enough for them to be tolerable together. He also always seemed a lot more jealous every time she was with someone, especially Matt. When Brenda was engaged he seemed like he didn’t even care. Also with Kelly to me it seems like even though at first the only thing they had in common was liking to hook up, i think he was just scared to really let someone else in after Brenda and later on Toni, which seemed the case for Kelly and never really admitting to her that he loved her, bc throughout the whole show, I know they never said I love u to each other. But in the end of the series, they really do fit together, and seemed like they could last, at least for a while. i definitely prefer though brenda/dylan, and kelly/brandon lol
yeah, i too like Dylan and Kelly together. Obviously I'm in the minority, but he does seem more open with Kelly. Plus everyone acts like Brenda was such a puppy dog. Don't get me wrong, I loved her character, but she definitely had some bitchy moments, and her and Dylan's relationship was far from perfection.

Kelly deserved to be happy. That's what these people commenting don't get. Dylan found his soul mate in Kelly while he was with the wrong girl. Obvs he should have broken up with Brenda first, but that would take away the drama of the show. At the end though, Brenda was no saint. And judging and blaming Kelly is so ignorant. If you're going to be mad, be mad at Dylan who cheated, WITH NO REMORSE might I add. You could tell he fell in love with Kelly and he knew he was meant to be with her. Too bad the original writers|producers did not agree with your sentiments, lol. DK (worst couple ever) - were written for drama. Dylan never displayed any true interest in Kelly during s1 or s2 until the summer of drama. They were never intended to be long term (as the writing for s4 VERY clearly demonstrates) and the soulmate angle was only forced into the show at s5 after Shannen Doherty was forced to leave the series. Thus, the new and campy triangle of Brandon|Kelly|Dylan was born. It's in DVD commentary that Brenda|Dylan were the intended endgame. Two factors played into DK becoming a default couple for series end: 1) Luke Perry's decision to return to the series in s9 after Jason Priestley's departure. Luke only returned as a favor to Aaron Spelling (which is why he utterly refused to have anything to do with the 2008 spin-off). Otherwise, in s6-s8, it is made very clear with references that Dylan ended up living in London with Brenda offscreen before the s9 retcon. It would have remained that way too had Perry stayed away. 2) Aaron Spelling wanted both Dylan AND Brenda back for s9. Spelling actually offered Shannen the choice to come back in 1998 to 90210 but Shannen opted to go with Spelling's other production, Charmed, that same year instead. Thus, why Vanessa Marcil's character of Gina was created in place of Shannen|Brenda. I don't get too worked up anymore over the DK ending in s10 series finale because it was hardly a finite conclusion in my eyes, not like Donna & David who married. I actually even heard the original writing intention, minus no Brenda, was for Dylan to take off with Gina when she left, as Luke was going to leave too before sticking it out longer. It is pretty clear who really brought out the good side of Dylan from s1 & s2 - Brenda. Later, it was Toni Marchette in s6. Dylan is an awful self centered person with Kelly, in s3, and later in s9/s10. Kelly deserved to be happy? Sure, but not at the expense of her best friend and that is why she takes the heat. She drove me crazy in s3/s4 when she tried comparing Brenda with her relationship to Dylan. Couldn't live with the consequences that came with a relationship born out of deceit, which included Dylan's deeper bond to Brenda.
Heather Graham Actually, there was interest on Kelly's part for sure but you have to pay close attention. I remember in the first season, it looked like Kelly had a thing for Dylan in one scene but I cant recall the episode - might've been the one where Brenda dyed her hair! Then, when Brenda and Dylan FIRST broke up, I remember Kelly chatting with Steve on the beach and sounding kind of happy they broke up and asking if Dylan was okay. If I find it I will let you know - I think it was the one where Brenda was in summer school. Its funny because I must've watched those episodes so many times, but for some reason I just caught it years later. So apparently it was only a matter of time. It happens. Sometimes you have a huge crush on someone and aren't sure if they feel the same way or if the feeling is something that will pass - so it was good that they got it out of their system. better to live in truth than in a lie. I just wish Dean Cain or David Gail (Stewart) could've been a long term love interest for her.
lol21432 You are correct that there were some small inferences of interest on Kelly's end made in s1. By s2, these inferences were history. And I don't think it was ever planned or intended to mean anything at the beginning either, seeing as how Kelly gleefully assisted Brenda with dating|sex tips during the s1 episode, Isn't It Romantic, after BD were just starting to see each other. The very first inference came in, Higher Education, I believe, when Kelly was fliratious towards him with Brenda by her side. She backed off, though, when Dylan's interest seemed to go in Brenda's direction. In the s1 Slumber Party episode, Kelly did admit to having a crush on Dylan, that he flirted with her the previous year before the Walshes moved there, and said she tried to get a date with Dylan after Brenda started dating him. But that's the thing. Flirting was inferred, nothing serious. The scene at the beach where Kelly appeared to be gloating to Steve about BD's break-up? That just appeared to come across as teenage gossip, not Kelly being happy because she was interested in Dylan. I mean, Steve appeared giddy too about the news but obviously it wasn't about him being interested in Brenda. The writing coincidently had some small inferences of interest made by Kelly but aside from Kelly's one claim that Dylan flirted with her pre-Brenda, there was no serious interest whatsoever demonstrated by Dylan onscreen in s1 or s2. Which was the point I was making. It was so glaringly obvious to me that the triangle was forced for drama's sake (and offscreen because Luke asked to work with 'the blond'). The kindergarten connection was a revision to attempt something 'deep' in order to make DK appear more than just some deceitful summer fling. But in all honesty, I thought the soulmate concoction in s5 was far worse. Kelly may have held a crush on Dylan at some point but I never bought the same about Dylan. He merely sparked an interest in Kelly that summer, that was it. So considering the s1 & s2 canon, it seemed laughable to me when Dylan declared to Kelly he always wanted her after choosing her in the s3 ultimatum. I was not opposed to Brenda having another long term love interest in the interim before the writers brought BD back around full circle but I never felt Stuart Carson was it and Dean Cain's Rick was definitely just cast as the 'eye candy' so BD could split onscreen. The one consistent argument that irks me to defend the DK summer fling is when Rick gets used to excuse it. Not because Brenda was a saint that summer but because Brenda was honest and upfront with Dylan about it. Dylan was not; neither was Kelly. He had his chance to make a break from Brenda then if Kelly was really the one for him. Instead, he waited to make that move only when Brenda finally broke it off. There were just many indications early on that DK were going to be a temporary relationship if other onscreen/offscreen events hadn't altered that direction.
Heather Graham I'm watching Higher Education right now on Hulu the episode when she dyed her hair and was just watching that scene here kelly and brenda and dylan are at the lockers. I totally forgot that she said that at the slumber party. Im telling you though, even if they didnt plan it, it sure looked like Kelly and Dylan had the hots for each other in one way or another it just didnt occur often because there were no forces bringing them together at that time and he was dating Brenda so he wouldnt have done it. Also, Dylan was a bit of a loner and not really close to anyone in high school and Kelly was very social so Dylan and her didnt get time to really have a relationship plus Dylan seemed like he wouldnt have been interested in that at the time. Plus, he became friends with Brandon and through him Brenda got to Dylan before Kelly. I think his eyes were open towards the end of high school that he may have more than just a little thing for Kelly and vice versa. I can relate to it I guess. The first season was a little weird because they're developing the characters at that point. Donna's last name wasn't even Martin.

Kelly and Dylan are the best, and most frighteningly accurate, onscreen teen couple I have ever seen. When I was this age I was a complete Kelly. The hate for her feels like straight up misogyny to me. I was back and forth with my first serious boyfriend and we treated each other terribly and went with other people but it was an intense chemistry like Luke and Jennie/Dylan and Kelly have that kept bringing us back. We were still figuring out who we were. All my friends were in similar situations. The hate Kelly seems to have received (I watched a few years later as I was in Kinder when it started!!) at the time is gross. Was it right what she did? Probably not being a good friend but it was high school. It happens! She owned it at least.

Teenage romances! Everyone jumps on Kelly but Brenda was hanging out with that guy Rick in Paris and then he showed up at the Peach Pit, remember? So she was ready to see other people too (once she dropped that stupid phony French accent). I love that by the end of the show Dylan and Kelly found their way back to each other. AS ADULTS that were older, wiser and ready to be together. They will always be my favorite tv couple.

Steve reaffirmed this in season 9 when he told Matt, who was dating Kelly, that Kelly and Dylan had "once thought they were soulmates." Matt asked, "Before Brandon?" To which Steve replied, "Before Brandon, during Brandon, after Brandon." In other words, for all time (i.e., "soulmates"). The writers had planted seeds from the beginning of Kelly and Dylan's romance through the end of the show that they were soulmates. On TV shows, soulmates wind up together in the end, which is exactly what happened here. The end.

So then why didn't they? It wasn't a matter of "availability," since Jason was still serving as an executive producer on "90210," and Shannen was working on the Aaron Spelling production "Charmed." So Spelling was still both of their boss, and could have easily ordered them to appear again on "90210." It wasn't a matter of money, since if Spelling wanted them back on "90210" for a few episodes he could have easily coughed up the cash. Jason and Shannen weren't "available" because they weren't needed or wanted by the majority of the remaining fans who wanted Kelly and Dylan together in the end as "soulmates," the way they were written to be from the beginning of their romance. If a show writes that a couple is each other's "soulmate," then of course most of the fans watching until the end are going to expect those characters to end up together in the end. And that's exactly what happened.

This storyline is big through the last seven years of the show!

Here’s the thing that Brenda fans don’t get. So what if it was written on paper originally that Brenda would end up with Dylan. Sorry but Luke preferred to work with Jennie. Haven’t you noticed that this giant mistake the writers made on this show about not checking the chemistry between couples before filming was NEVER repeated. Every other show was like nope not gonna make that mistake. We are gonna check first. On paper Friends main couple was Monica and Joey. But of course friends has the best writers in the world and they CHECKED first and found that Jennifer Aniston and David had the best chem. Gossip girl in the books says Blair ends up with Nate on paper. But they also didn’t want to make BH s mistake and checked and guess what Blair and chuck had the best chemistry. So I don’t care if Brenda should be with Dylan on paper. The actors who played Dylan and Kelly had more chemistry. So if there’s one thing 90210 taught future shows don’t write the main couple of the show until you’ve met the actors. Because everyone was blown away in 1993 when this hot summer affair came up and Dylan and Kelly’s steamy scenes started. They then wrote it into the show to add fire and excitement which I’m sorry but MADE the show. In fact the most iconic thing about this show was the summer of betrayal. It had the most views and was the defining moment that made this show get noticed. That’s how art happens btw, by letting it happen and not trying to control it.
I disagree regarding the ratings. The ratings would have been up regardless due to the act of betrayal. I tuned in not because of their so called chemistry, but because of the fling itself. It could have been Dylan and Donna. People would have still watched because it was a friend and boyfriend betrayal. Kelly and Dylan did not have as much chemistry as Brenda and Dylan in my opinion.

Well, it's called offering an opinion, which everyone is entitled (sorry, not all commentary will praise) and to set the record straight, I certainly have run into debate with some DK fans from some BD videos out there. Which they are free to do too.
And there really isn't insecurity about Brenda per say because it is pretty common knowledge that Brenda & Dylan are the #1 top ranked couple in fandom, followed by Brandon/Kelly as #2.. DK don't even beat out Donna & David in some polls. Plus, many are aware of the offscreen events that lead to the DK default ending. It's not too big a deal to me because I know it was not planned that way nor the intention. DK were written for drama, meant to be temporary.

As I commented in my reply to another post, the writers established in season 4 that Kelly and Dylan were soulmates, and since soulmates are supposed to wind up together at the end on TV shows, this is exactly what happened here. The end.

@@dylanleff373 Pretty much. No one wanted to work with her, so it showed on screen as well. Shannen was going through some sort of phase. But the fact that Luke did not want to work with her is a clear indication of the Dylan/Brenda story. Didn't Brenda not like the fact that he did not want to go to school or something? I mean, there was always something she did not like about him, it is not like their relationship was ideal. She did have her doubts about Dylan. They were not meant to stay together long. When we hear he "goes back to her" is just a means to keep Brenda in the show in some fashion, which perhaps they should not have. The Walsh twins offer a means for Kelly/Dylan to get together which is customary for soul mates from what I've read, and for each to grow that way. If they got together when older, it would work because of all the things learned along the way.

She did have her weaknesses, as did he, but she learned from them and grew from them. They do make a good couple if they’d both chill. U know even though Dylan and Kelly annoy the shit out of me in season 3 I’m starting to think he was more in love with Kelly then Brenda, including season 4 and the last few seasons. The whole soulmates thing and saying he always wanted her the whole time through high school was bullshit because he could have dated her anyy time throughout high school since he knew she liked him, but no, he chose to be with Brenda then. but him and Kelly were always being drawn back to each other throughout the last 2 seasons. it was like no matter who they dated, they would always find their way back to each other, like there was always a force pushing them together. They did fight a ton throughout all their time together, but they did mature a lot in the end, enough for them to be tolerable together. He also always seemed a lot more jealous every time she was with someone, especially Matt. When Brenda was engaged he seemed like he didn’t even care. Also with Kelly to me it seems like even though at first the only thing they had in common was liking to hook up, i think he was just scared to really let someone else in after Brenda and later on Toni, which seemed the case for Kelly and never really admitting to her that he loved her, bc throughout the whole show, I know they never said I love u to each other. But in the end of the series, they really do fit together, and seemed like they could last, at least for a while. i definitely prefer though brenda/dylan, and kelly/brandon lol

DK (worst couple ever) - were written for drama. Dylan never displayed any true interest in Kelly during s1 or s2 until the summer of drama. They were never intended to be long term (as the writing for s4 VERY clearly demonstrates) and the soulmate angle was only forced into the show at s5 after Shannen Doherty was forced to leave the series. Thus, the new and campy triangle of Brandon|Kelly|Dylan was born. It's in DVD commentary that Brenda|Dylan were the intended endgame.
Two factors played into DK becoming a default couple for series end:
1) Luke Perry's decision to return to the series in s9 after Jason Priestley's departure. Luke only returned as a favor to Aaron Spelling (which is why he utterly refused to have anything to do with the 2008 spin-off). Otherwise, in s6-s8, it is made very clear with references that Dylan ended up living in London with Brenda offscreen before the s9 retcon. It would have remained that way too had Perry stayed away.
2) Aaron Spelling wanted both Dylan AND Brenda back for s9. Spelling actually offered Shannen the choice to come back in 1998 to 90210 but Shannen opted to go with Spelling's other production, Charmed, that same year instead. Thus, why Vanessa Marcil's character of Gina was created in place of Shannen|Brenda.
I don't get too worked up anymore over the DK ending in s10 series finale because it was hardly a finite conclusion in my eyes, not like Donna & David who married. I actually even heard the original writing intention, minus no Brenda, was for Dylan to take off with Gina when she left, as Luke was going to leave too before sticking it out longer.
It is pretty clear who really brought out the good side of Dylan from s1 & s2 - Brenda. Later, it was Toni Marchette in s6. Dylan is an awful self centered person with Kelly, in s3, and later in s9/s10.
Kelly deserved to be happy? Sure, but not at the expense of her best friend and that is why she takes the heat. She drove me crazy in s3/s4 when she tried comparing Brenda with her relationship to Dylan. Couldn't live with the consequences that came with a relationship born out of deceit, which included Dylan's deeper bond to Brenda.
Heather Graham Actually, there was interest on Kelly's part for sure but you have to pay close attention. I remember in the first season, it looked like Kelly had a thing for Dylan in one scene but I cant recall the episode - might've been the one where Brenda dyed her hair! Then, when Brenda and Dylan FIRST broke up, I remember Kelly chatting with Steve on the beach and sounding kind of happy they broke up and asking if Dylan was okay. If I find it I will let you know - I think it was the one where Brenda was in summer school. Its funny because I must've watched those episodes so many times, but for some reason I just caught it years later. So apparently it was only a matter of time. It happens. Sometimes you have a huge crush on someone and aren't sure if they feel the same way or if the feeling is something that will pass - so it was good that they got it out of their system. better to live in truth than in a lie. I just wish Dean Cain or David Gail (Stewart) could've been a long term love interest for her.
lol21432 You are correct that there were some small inferences of interest on Kelly's end made in s1. By s2, these inferences were history. And I don't think it was ever planned or intended to mean anything at the beginning either, seeing as how Kelly gleefully assisted Brenda with dating|sex tips during the s1 episode, Isn't It Romantic, after BD were just starting to see each other. The very first inference came in, Higher Education, I believe, when Kelly was fliratious towards him with Brenda by her side. She backed off, though, when Dylan's interest seemed to go in Brenda's direction. In the s1 Slumber Party episode, Kelly did admit to having a crush on Dylan, that he flirted with her the previous year before the Walshes moved there, and said she tried to get a date with Dylan after Brenda started dating him. But that's the thing. Flirting was inferred, nothing serious. The scene at the beach where Kelly appeared to be gloating to Steve about BD's break-up? That just appeared to come across as teenage gossip, not Kelly being happy because she was interested in Dylan. I mean, Steve appeared giddy too about the news but obviously it wasn't about him being interested in Brenda.
The writing coincidently had some small inferences of interest made by Kelly but aside from Kelly's one claim that Dylan flirted with her pre-Brenda, there was no serious interest whatsoever demonstrated by Dylan onscreen in s1 or s2. Which was the point I was making. It was so glaringly obvious to me that the triangle was forced for drama's sake (and offscreen because Luke asked to work with 'the blond'). The kindergarten connection was a revision to attempt something 'deep' in order to make DK appear more than just some deceitful summer fling. But in all honesty, I thought the soulmate concoction in s5 was far worse. Kelly may have held a crush on Dylan at some point but I never bought the same about Dylan. He merely sparked an interest in Kelly that summer, that was it. So considering the s1 & s2 canon, it seemed laughable to me when Dylan declared to Kelly he always wanted her after choosing her in the s3 ultimatum.
I was not opposed to Brenda having another long term love interest in the interim before the writers brought BD back around full circle but I never felt Stuart Carson was it and Dean Cain's Rick was definitely just cast as the 'eye candy' so BD could split onscreen. The one consistent argument that irks me to defend the DK summer fling is when Rick gets used to excuse it. Not because Brenda was a saint that summer but because Brenda was honest and upfront with Dylan about it. Dylan was not; neither was Kelly. He had his chance to make a break from Brenda then if Kelly was really the one for him. Instead, he waited to make that move only when Brenda finally broke it off.
There were just many indications early on that DK were going to be a temporary relationship if other onscreen/offscreen events hadn't altered that direction.

I'm watching Higher Education right now on Hulu the episode when she dyed her hair and was just watching that scene here kelly and brenda and dylan are at the lockers. I totally forgot that she said that at the slumber party. Im telling you though, even if they didnt plan it, it sure looked like Kelly and Dylan had the hots for each other in one way or another it just didnt occur often because there were no forces bringing them together at that time and he was dating Brenda so he wouldnt have done it. Also, Dylan was a bit of a loner and not really close to anyone in high school and Kelly was very social so Dylan and her didnt get time to really have a relationship plus Dylan seemed like he wouldnt have been interested in that at the time. Plus, he became friends with Brandon and through him Brenda got to Dylan before Kelly. I think his eyes were open towards the end of high school that he may have more than just a little thing for Kelly and vice versa. I can relate to it I guess. The first season was a little weird because they're developing the characters at that point. Donna's last name wasn't even Martin.

Kelly and Dylan are the best, and most frighteningly accurate, onscreen teen couple I have ever seen. When I was this age I was a complete Kelly. The hate for her feels like straight up misogyny to me. I was back and forth with my first serious boyfriend and we treated each other terribly and went with other people but it was an intense chemistry like Luke and Jennie/Dylan and Kelly have that kept bringing us back. We were still figuring out who we were. All my friends were in similar situations. The hate Kelly seems to have received (I watched a few years later as I was in Kinder when it started!!) at the time is gross. Was it right what she did? Probably not being a good friend but it was high school. It happens! She owned it at least.

Teenage romances! Everyone jumps on Kelly but Brenda was hanging out with that guy Rick in Paris and then he showed up at the Peach Pit, remember? So she was ready to see other people too (once she dropped that stupid phony French accent). I love that by the end of the show Dylan and Kelly found their way back to each other. AS ADULTS that were older, wiser and ready to be together. They will always be my favorite tv couple.

The writers established in season 4 that Kelly and Dylan were soulmates who were meant to be together in the end. Steve reaffirmed this in season 9 when he told Matt, who was dating Kelly, that Kelly and Dylan had "once thought they were soulmates." Matt asked, "Before Brandon?" To which Steve replied, "Before Brandon, during Brandon, after Brandon." In other words, for all time (i.e., "soulmates").
The writers had planted seeds from the beginning of Kelly and Dylan's romance through the end of the show that they were soulmates. On TV shows, soulmates wind up together in the end, which is exactly what happened here. The end.

Here’s the thing that Brenda fans don’t get. So what if it was written on paper originally that Brenda would end up with Dylan. Sorry but Luke preferred to work with Jennie. Haven’t you noticed that this giant mistake the writers made on this show about not checking the chemistry between couples before filming was NEVER repeated. Every other show was like nope not gonna make that mistake. We are gonna check first. On paper Friends main couple was Monica and Joey. But of course friends has the best writers in the world and they CHECKED first and found that Jennifer Aniston and David had the best chem. Gossip girl in the books says Blair ends up with Nate on paper. But they also didn’t want to make BH s mistake and checked and guess what Blair and chuck had the best chemistry. So I don’t care if Brenda should be with Dylan on paper. The actors who played Dylan and Kelly had more chemistry. So if there’s one thing 90210 taught future shows don’t write the main couple of the show until you’ve met the actors. Because everyone was blown away in 1993 when this hot summer affair came up and Dylan and Kelly’s steamy scenes started. They then wrote it into the show to add fire and excitement which I’m sorry but MADE the show. In fact the most iconic thing about this show was the summer of betrayal. It had the most views and was the defining moment that made this show get noticed. That’s how art happens btw, by letting it happen and not trying to control it.

I disagree regarding the ratings. The ratings would have been up regardless due to the act of betrayal. I tuned in not because of their so called chemistry, but because of the fling itself. It could have been Dylan and Donna. People would have still watched because it was a friend and boyfriend betrayal. Kelly and Dylan did not have as much chemistry as Brenda and Dylan in my opinion.

Well, it's called offering an opinion, which everyone is entitled (sorry, not all commentary will praise) and to set the record straight, I certainly have run into debate with some DK fans from some BD videos out there. Which they are free to do too.
And there really isn't insecurity about Brenda per say because it is pretty common knowledge that Brenda & Dylan are the #1 top ranked couple in fandom, followed by Brandon/Kelly as #2.. DK don't even beat out Donna & David in some polls. Plus, many are aware of the offscreen events that lead to the DK default ending. It's not too big a deal to me because I know it was not planned that way nor the intention. DK were written for drama, meant to be temporary.
