I ironically learned about herding the yakows without hitting them because my mom pointed out how cruel it seemed to hit the animals and that often if they are farm raised they could be herded without hurting them, her grandma owned a farm. My mind was blown and ever since then I try to avoid punching the bovines.
I'm very happy everyone enjoyed (or didn't enjoy) the mod. The fact that almost every person locked themselves out of a single orb in the orb caches made me very satisfied. Now that Josh has posted, I have some "impossible" tasks to figure out. Getting into snowy with just jump is already achievable.
@@OutrageousJosh There's more coming too, I'm working on at least 4 other mods. This was one of my dumb ideas, I'm glad it brought people joy. Just wait til I have a halfway decent idea.
This is undoubtedly the most entertaining video I’ve seen from you. Limiting the mechanics of the game really makes for some very interesting and entertaining solutions. The editing is fantastic, including clips of other people doing the challenge, it’s all awesome. What an incredible idea that paid off spectacularly! Also, I died at this part 💀 36:30
Amazing Guide! 20:25 I used the invincibility after getting hit to jump onto that frog to ledgegrab that platform. Using the spin would have been easier lmao
This challenge was the most fun Ive had playing Jak 1 in ten years. Sure speedruns develop new strats periodically but for a more casual player this was more approachable, while still making me rethink most of the game.
I love that jak is getting content, jak is one of my favorite series and it seems not much people know about it, so I love watching jak and daxter videos like these and all the mods and the pc port
Hear me out, release a mod like this every fiscal quarter, with different modifiers (I mean like anything eco effects, ability restrictions, increased jump height) and have like a seasonal speedrun or something! Just an idea.
i think every game should have a speedrun contest like mitchflowerpowers super mario 3. where theres a point system for doing various other tricks or side things and then points for time. promotes more random routing and cool side things.
Fantastic video Josh, really enjoyed learning about this challenge stuff for pretty much the first time. So you inspired me, just now I've been doing some testing with Snowy Mountain. You can cross the gap by jumping on and sliding across the cliff wall. You get on there by forcing a crouch jump within a Lurker, or by jumping from a sat boulder and using a spin kick. Easier the spin kick way but also simple without! I'm also sure you could pass over the shield to sink the buttons with the force jump crouch. The power cell in Boggy Swamp on that platform, I managed to get that with a force crouch inside the frog ha.
I was really excited for this, I've beaten this game so many times and thought, finally, a new challenge. Couldn't get past Geyser Rock lmao. So excited to see what other cool stuff comes out in future.
Amazing video! That was a fun (and some times very frustrating) challenge. I found several more spin-less orbs: - You can actually enter the Snowy Mountains area. Stand next to the rocky wall near the gap, wait for an enemy to come close, and jump so the enemy hits you in the air. If you do it right you will get extra height to life you on the rocks, and you will slide to the other side. Inside the Snowy area itself I managed to get 83 orbs. However, without spin I didn't manage to get a single power cell (some are possible with spin later on). Total: 86 orbs. - In Spider Cave, I managed to get extra 6 orbs from a crate in the spider tunnel (next to the robot). First, you need to collect some yellow eco from the scaffolding near the entrance to the tunnel, and shoot all the spider eggs you can from a distance. After that, you need to collect lot of yellow eco - start with the 3 on the left side, and then the 3 on the right side, and walk straight to the tunnel with what you have. You should barely have enough yellow eco left to shoot the first crate, without spiders bothering you at the entrance. This is much harder than it sounds, and took me around 20-30 minutes to accomplish. Total: 189 orbs. With those extra orbs, my final spinless orbs count is 1551.
Really love your videos and streams man, you’re keeping my absolute childhood favorite alive and interesting. I appreciate the effort you put into this video, keep up the great work, josh!
You can abuse the physics to jump over the fence, slide a bit, do an airstep, jump a bit further and land on a rock that allows you to jump in a crouched state and crouchjump up. In the last geyser rock power cell part.
5:02 I actually learned from Ruh's Mythbusters series that you can clip out of the temple without fighting the plant boss. So you're not soft locked! But i don't think it changes much. You lose one PC from the plant boss and without the spin kick you're missing out on 4 others: the flut flut egg, the 2 flut flut powercells, and the dang boggy swamp PC tantalizing you. So you're stuck at 68 power cells (almost nice). At best it may help optimize a route for a speedrun. But I'm guessing that Part 2 is gonna blow my mind with a way around some "unobtainable" PC's :)
You can still get a few of the orbs in the temple without the spin kick if you use an idle deload to get out, but don't get any power cells or you'll be stuck forever!
I accidentally downloaded this version since the mod launcher only downloads the latest release. Because I’m stubborn and didn’t feel like installing a different version manually, I completed this one. Admittedly, I did need help. I couldn’t figure out how to leave Geyser Rock. I also entertained myself by reading a few comments where I found out about entering Snowy Mountain and holding crouches, but not how to do them, so I had to figure those out. Having the ability to attack again was so nice and I rode that high through the rest of the game. I think the most satisfying Power Cell to get with only jump was the Boggy Swamp ambush. That killed me so many times.
Having now watched this video, there are a few Orbs and Cells that you got that I didn't, but a couple of Cells I did (plus the Snowy Mountain Orbs that saved me). Forbidden Jungle: I never thought of using the temple Blue Eco to get the last Scout Fly and nearby couple of Orbs. I never got close with the Eco from the vent used to open the temple door. Luckily, with 22 available Cells, I didn't need that one. Misty Island: I did skip the ambush. I knew from having watched the original Microtransactions video that the jump to the Cell was possible, so I just did that. I didn't get all the orbs. I definitely never got the cache and I'm pretty sure I left a few scattered. I told myself this was one of the first places I would come back to if I was short. Obviously, Snowy Mountain made that a nonissue. Rock Village: I got some much more accidental help here. I thought the bridge Orbs were too high to collect. After I defeated Klaww, accessed through storing a couple crouches, I wanted to see how you got to him. When I clicked the link for the chapter, I saw you had just gotten all of the Orbs there, confirming it was possible, so I tried again and figured out how to get them. My method was just constantly jumping as the Orbs reached the lowest point of their animation. Boggy Swamp: I didn't know those last couple of Orbs were possible. I came back for them after buying the spin because I felt like it. I did make up for the missing Scout Fly Cell here, though. I got the second tether Cell by using the frog you recklessly killed. By taking damage, you can jump on it with invincibility frames. From there, you get enough height to reach the Cell. For the unnamed locations, things went more or less the same. There were a few Cells you got in Hub 3 that I didn't, but there was plenty of freedom for Cells at that point. I did go back for the last Forbidden Jungle Scout Fly using the Plant Boss Eco.
Oh, didn't know you could finish Scout Flies in FJ, definitely one cell I missed there. Definitely didn't like the Boggy cell staring you right in the face :) Interesting way to get to Klaww, I jumped on the invention and fell off of it carrying the crouch state to high jump up to the edge. Definitely a fun and interesting challenge, still sad about Snowy though...

It was a good challenge. I made it past precursor basin and down in lost precursor city but I kept dying to lurkers on the way up the dark ego cylinder. Unfortunately I found out my recorder stopped recording about halfway through my playthrough
Josh, I’ve been trying this challenge out for the past couple days and I gotta ask, how did you manage to get out of the rising dark eco in LPC? I’ve been trying to see if I can damage off the lurker for a little extra height but I haven’t been able to make that work. Am I on the right track?

Cant you use a launcher in underground that goes to orbs to launch you out of bounds, then back in bounds about where the river is?
In order to do that you would need spin to increase your hitbox, which you would not have.
