Well, in my opinions, probably because games nowdays are either too easy or too bullshit to play. Therefore, we go back to old games which they actually still have values and something for us to learn from.
I remember when one of my friend told me to buy a PC. I said to him why i need this shit? Then i saw this game, those visuals, animation when downed enemies shoot at u in dying agony. I came back home and said my parents that i need a PC. They ask why i need it. To learn Programm languages i said)))
A really good reason that no one can deny =)))) Although, i must say, most programmers are gamers. A lot of guys come to the path of programming through gaming, and i'm not an exception to the rules either.
Thank you for this! Brings me back... 12yo, unknown hormonal rage and the game cd straight into the stereo! (when music in games were actual wav files... and didn't have youtube XD)
In fact, the game CD was hybrid audio/data, and the game commanded the reader to play the track after loading the level. A good idea back then, because hardware was rather limited.
@@f-s-r Thats why i always thought Steve Winwood - Higher Love was part of soundtrack to Total Annihilation demo i had. Just some random cd in the drive lol.
Ya soy gamer veterano, he jugado infinidad juegos en mi vida, pero de vez en cuando vuelvo a escuchar estos soundtracks del Quake 2 Que buena musica tiene este juego.
This track reminds me of my first encounter with Q2, my brother was sick and in bed, while I had the earphones in pulling my way through the first level of the game. Such a bad idea at 12 years old to play this for the first time with earphones 😂
I played quite a few Ego Shooters, but Quake II has been my favourite. The soundtrack perfectly orchestrates being all alone in a strange weird place full of strange weird creatures with the sole intention to kill you - especially "The Underworld".
Freaking 2020, 36 years old now. Owning all the Quakes and Dooms, which shaped my gaming history. This is def an awesome trip down memory lane and glad they went with Sonic Mayhem for this OST instead of Trent. Q2 required a heavy soundtrack to fit the game. Don't get me wrong through, Trent did PERFECT for Q1. Also learned about the Ultimate Q2 patch to get the music apparently back working on Steam as well!
Ah the nostalgia of smashing your pod into a reinforced wall and then tearing off onto the Strogg landscape to blast the shit out of those alien bastards. A great looking and sounding game for its day!
This one feels like a gem of the all tracks in Quake 2. Didn't know it was Q2 song tho, since I heard it first time on Brutal Doom Hell on Earth campaign...
Maybe your CD drive wasn't plugged to your sound card. Back then you had to plug the CD drive on the motherboard with an IDE cable, but you also needed to plug it to the sound card in order to get the music
*I didn't think you could play it without the CD being in the disc tray* Depends entirely on what install mode you used. Full Install dumped everything onto the hard drive, including the music. Partial only dumped the .pak files (basically .zips) and the core executables IIRC, and you needed the CD to run the game and hear the music.
I never heard this song in my playthrough because I was playing the steam version damn shame because the only thing I heard was the gunshots, enemies and the ambience
Nine Inch Nail's musicians play to Quake's soundtracks? somewhere i got that info. my source also say that Renzor saw the game and inspired the music of each level, he knew where to go musically in other words and for years i was wondered about the Mayhem's musicians, conclusion life goes on, and since we live, we learn NIN for Quake 2?! :)
Idk, but to me ETF sounds more like doom 16 tracks, especially rip & tear/rust dust & guts, so i would say ETF was the inspiration, at the very least for doom 16
I absolutely love Quake 2 since I was about 13, love ID and their games, every property but I honestly think we should get back to Stroggos and fight a new Makron and left the Doom Slayer rest for a while on now

I'm a little sad to discover that i've first listen this soundtracks by the brutal doom campaign, yes i like BD but when i will take quake 2 remastered this will not be the same.
This is a great example of an industrial metal soundtrack. Unlike that misunderstanding from the new Doom. I've never understood why people praise Mick Gordon. Saying how exciting and metal it is! I would like to ask the people who praise him. Have you ever heard metal? Is it good metal? Because there is no metal there. Guitar and drums are not expressed there. And this is the basis. This is stupidly boring electronic stuff. Good examples of excellent metal soundtrack in games are the soundtracks for Quake 2 and Painkiller. Compared to which the Mickey Gordon soundtrack just sucks. Yes, one theme from the Doom 3 menu is cooler than the entire soundtrack from the Mick Gordon soundtrack.
violence is never the answer, violence is a question, and the answer is yes
So yea, violence is the answer.

the other half is violence.

Probably the best Quake 2 track. The Doomslayer on Stroggos when?
After he kills nazis and demons with Blazkowicz.
I maintain that a Quake reboot should be a co-op shooter that plays like Doom Eternal.
