- A Tribute to Helen Keller's Companion & Assistant Polly Thomson. (Often spelled "Thompson.") After Polly's death in 1960, Helen was assisted by Mrs. Evelyn Seide Walter until Helen's death in 1968.

A very beautiful video.Thanks for sharing. Polly Thomson had to be a great lady to devote the rest of her life to Helen Keller.She and Helen teach us that love is the most important thing in life and that life has no meaning without love.
Yes...many people are only familiar with Anne Sullivan Macy's contribution to Helen's life...But Polly Thomson deserves credit for her long devotion also. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Best wishes!

It is very pleasant and instructive these moments of life. The emotion also, when she takes the hour with fingers, when she gets the children. Which courage had this woman.

It's a miracle Helen could talk at all , even if it was hard to understand. I've watched clips of her talking and I understand about 80% of what she says. I've seen a lot of deafblind people that only use sign language, and I'm glad Helen was able to talk verbally. If it was now, she could probably just use sign language
Such a wonderful video that nothing is impossible to achieve if you never stop trying. Helen Keller and her teachers has always been one of the most inspirational stories in my lifetime. I was starting tenth grade when Helen died.

When they did the finger spelling I wonder if they always spelled out every word completely, or if they used a shorthand or a different single sign for any words to speed things up.

In her early years it was Anne Sullivan. Polly only worked with Helen after she got along in age.
