Oh it is beautiful! Helen was so lovely as an old woman and she had a marvellous smile.Jesus she was full of love and of God..She had to depend on Ann and Polly all her life but what a wonderful woman! She is an inspiration and i want to be like her when i am old, happy!
such a remarkable woman. the story of her life has personally taught me to not allow myself pity and gotten me out of many episodes of depression. I saw the original 1969 film and was just stunned to tears! i thought to myself.....are you serious right now, get ur butt up off this sofa and DO SOMETHING!! what an inspiration
How I miss snail mail!! Nothing can beat the thrill of receiving them! I bet Helen had lots of joy with them too! The Braille typewriter is brilliant! Thanks for sharing these precious clips! :)
This was such a wonderful episode of a woman who I have always admired, and who I now admire even more...Helen Keller is always an inspiration to me...
Ecstatic to find videos of the great inspirational woman. It had always been wonderful reading about Helen Keller but never knew that her original videos were available. So glad and so inspired.
Thank you so much for posting all of these Helen. I really look forward to seeing more and learning more about Helen Keller. She truly is a saint. How true, Helen is right " everyone has their own handicap" while her's were many, she never allowed them to get in the way. Love n Light, Patty
I shall always be filled with admiration for this woman. She communicates only with the touch. I am on that she feel more thing than us. Thank you Helen for these extraordinary moments of life.
its so cool and amazing that she was able to live a pretty normal life with the help of people who truly cared!! wonderful video my friend!! thank you!!

@angelgirls1980 - Hi Patty. Sorry for the late reply....but I haven't been on youtube as much lately, as I usually am. Thanks so much for the warm comment. Yes, Helen K. is always inspiring....even in her normal daily life. Always a lot to learn from her positive attitude. Sincere regards! - Helen.
Helen Keller a true inspiration. I enjoy receiving mail from my friends now and then, technology is a great thing but we really have to stop and appreciate how things were done in the past. Enjoyed this vid, excellent! X
really wonderful..im sure she was so happy to get mail..:-) really neat seeing what all she did and how she felt about things...truly amazing to watch!! thanks for sharing!!
@Timesounder - Hi Norbert. Thanks for the nice words. I'm happy to receive your comment. Perhaps you had a problem leaving a comment on this video, because youtube is going to make more changes. Usually problems with youtube mean more changes....unfortunately. Best Wishes!

@mdragon1801 - Hi Deborah, Thanks for the warm comment.... Sorry for the late reply...but you know how it is, sometimes :c) Yes...I think Helen Keller's normal daily activities are always interesting. Warmest regards!
@MessengerMagi - Hi Oliver, Thanks so much for the warm comment. Well...if Helen Keller received junk mail, her companion Polly Thomson probably didn't read it to her :c) Although I imagine she still received it. After all....who can escape junk mail? I assume Helen K. probably would have appreciated some of the modern methods of communication also...assuming she had ways to access them. (actually I must admit I still write a lot of letters the "old fashioned way".) Best Regards!
@geoff1945 - Hi Geoff, I agree.... Helen Keller and her companion Polly seemed to be able to communicate amazingly fast with sign language. Of course after having known each other for over 40 years, I assume the probably had a lot of their own little private hand signals etc.... Thanks for watching, my, friend! Best wishes!
@Idlinfarm - Hi Ida, Yes....they both seem very refined. Helen was raised in the mold of a typical "Victorian lady". It must have taken a great deal of effort on Helen's mother's and Anne Sullivan's part....as well as on Helen's part. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Warmest regards!

After our little conversation about Helen's writing to all of those famous people; the importance of staying in touch, so to speak, I've thought about how good it is to share our writing on UA-cam. I wonder if Helen often wrote 'run on' sentences like i just did? My goodness, it sounds like she got a lot of news in the mail. A lot of information to deal with. I love how the video describes how she wasn't limited by her disabilities; that we all have our disabilities. So highly disciplined she was, she is an inspiration to us all! Have a happy spring Helen!!
Yes, I suppose having no external distractions might have helped Helen to be more "disciplined/focused. I only wish I had her ability to "focus". I'm always "all over the place", so to speak, when I'm trying to accomplish something. lol. And yes, I think it's always interesting to maintain contact with an assortment of people on youtube. In past years, i used to be a big letter writer, also...but these days letter writing doesn't seem to be so popular . At any rate ,...hope you have a great new day ahead!
@@IamHelenKeller No worries about being 'all over the place' Helen! Maybe it's that random abstract kinda style they talk about as being very creative :o) That's what i tell myself anyway! :o)

Even Helen was not immune to the curse of paperwork. I had no idea she answered her own mail. I'm worn out, just by watching. If I was expected to use a manual typewriter at work, I think I would break down and cry. Well, maybe not cry. Just opt for early retirement.
Hi Helen! Once again the lovely lady puts me to shame. I really must try to sort out that huge pile of mail on my table. Trouble is, it's 99% junk mail which I imagine Helen Keller didn't have to contend with so much. Gracious... typing letters in braille and then retyping them in ordinary text. What a chore... what a woman!
Misty Violet, Republican. 1. 1954 2. Documentary (don’t know which production company etc.) 3. 1968 (and too bad she passed away on my birthday - my mother was ten at the time, so not the year obviously just the day). Unrelated - in regard to Polly, imagine caring about a friend enough to learn exactly how to every subtlety how to communicate despite being able to see and hear yourself.
The film "Unconquered: Helen Keller In Her Story" was produced and directed by Keller's great friend, Nancy Hamilton, narrated by another friend, Katherine Cornell. The backstory is very interesting as not only did they want to portray Helen Keller's domestic life with her loving and devoted friend, Polly Thomson, but it was in the midst of the investigation of her socialist and communist radicalism. They were not only encouraged to show her process in writing, the daily human struggle, but that she was actually kind of a normal, imperfect, and quirky lady, dissuading any accusations against her or Polly during the Second Red Scare.

Even sighted people were taught to touch-type up until very recently. For sighted people, the keys were often covered so that students could not "cheat" by looking at the keys while typing. Sometimes they would have a chart above the typewriter with a map of the keys to train you go look up from the keys. Mme Keller, already being blind of course would not need her keys covered, but would be taught were the keys were with finger-spelling. You can see her assistant take her hand and finger-spell in this video. Of course, there is always room for mistakes, and she would have someone proofread her letters before sending them out.
Hi Sylveon....I assume you're referring to the narrator. Actually it's Katherine Cornell. A popular theater actress in the first half of the 1900's. Yes, she does sound a bit like Barbra Walters. But this film was made in 1954. A little early for Barbara. And I think Barbara has a more pronounced speech impediment. LOL. Thanks for your interest. Hope things are going well for you. Best wishes!
