  • These TV's always seem to be underbuilt. Not a fan.

    Yup! Always a vizio.
Someone gave me a tv just like yours and it had only half of one bar working, the rest of them went dark. There was at least one faulty led per stick and I replaced those to get it working again, then I reduced the brightness to a 40% to see if I could save the rest from burning, but nope, they continued to day soon after I started to use the tv.
Since I couldn’t find this bars at a reasonable price a couple months ago I ordered about 100 led beads for about $12 I decided to replace every single one (72 total) 🥵 and now all are working but now there is a problem as a result. The whole led array flickers as if the pulse modulation got affected. The ones I ordered are the same voltage as the original ones but I’m thinking they are different in mili amps and they draw a different load from the led driver causing the change in the frequency.
Now that I know they are available at Shop Jimmy I will try to order them and forget about the ones I just put so much work on.
The one fro Shop Jimmy better last because they still quite pricey to me.
Thanks for sharing your video with us and be sure there will many more vizio owners coming to find it soon.

Good work! Two plus months with the TV always on from sun up to sun down and it's still working back at the owner's with the Shop Jimmy lights.... They are suppose to be an updated led strips, but I'm not sure what they exactly updated other than maybe a tougher led. Defiantly expensive. Think I averaged around $3 an hour in labor to keep the price down for the customer after all the parts. If youtube can grant me back my monetization, maybe I can supplement some of the labor cost with more videos.

Back lights go out on TCL TVs alot as well. I'm sure alot of budget TVs are that way. Most people who want a big screen on a flat panel have to go with the budget TV. When you're poor a small amount of money extra is to much.

I've seen more TCL's lose backlights because of under built board / power feed issues to the backlight LED's, however I'm sure they fry their share of bulbs too.

Did you need them suction cups when lifting the panel off of it.? Just wondered if I needed to order a couple of them.

I didn't. I lifted around the edges, but the flex always makes me nervous.

Curious, if I wanted to just replace the LED light in the strip, do you have a P/N or a web link to the singular LED light?

I don't have anything documented.... but I've been finding some parts on shopjimmy.com with decent success.

How did you get the actually screen off the tv without breaking it

It's tricky. I'll try to make a more detailed video in the future, but basically the metal frame around the panel glass needs to be removed, then the panels need to be lifted from the long edge (usually top) slowly and evenly. Usually helps to have a second person. Several times when I was in a hurry I have broken screens of mine before. Luckily not a clients yet. Even with all the precaution, there is still a risk of screen breakage as you can minimize the risk, but not necessary eliminate it completely.

Where’re you located? I have the exact same tv that needs the same fix but I’m scared I’ll break it if I try to do it

Hopefully someday I can get back to doing repairs for other individuals, but at this point I'm so swamped it's not possible..... yet. Treat it like a thin sheet of class and lift evenly as it swings up. Have a friend, or two help with even lifting and pivot on the long side. It's super fragile, however it can also bend a lot before it breaks too.
