I didn't ever meet him in person but I talked to him on the phone a few times, I was about ready to at the very least try to adapt his story to a book or screenplay and that was the basis for us talking at all because he was down with it but he basically told me at the time like I wanna say a year before his death that "I don't think I'm going to make it to see the release date even if I did go through with it" and I was like "nah, come on man sure you will". Part of it also basically was going to include a potential treatment on the film side of things, even if it was just a documentary, which was a secret Intervention style thing at the end and it was gonna focus on his recovery but it wouldn't be the first time he recovered. He's gone from looking like shit to looking great many times in his professional life. But the treatment plan/opportunity he didn't know about that yet. I wish I could have told him. He might still be alive today. He was really hard to get in touch with a lot of the times. Like people think of him as this guy who was living a comfortable life and "making a living" making music man he was basically in a self-imposed Hell every single day of his life. He was borderline homeless if it wasn't for the girl he was with at the time who also is the mother of his last child. He did sound frail. There's other stuff I could mention but I won't just for privacy reasons but when you think about tragic rock or rap stars... his is the saddest to me in every single way imaginable. More people need to hear him. Even if it's just now, and too late.
Lyrics and the beat are fire.....but that damn horn RUINS what could be such a great track!!!! Imagine this song with a bass line or a solid hook instead of that weird ass and misplaced horn. Its frustrating to listen to cbc its SO DAMN GOOD until the horn killz it..
