October of 2001, I went with the wildlife society from the University of Montana to Yellowstone. We stopped in the Lamar Valley to look at at a large herd of elk and a pack of wolves came out of the trees and took down a big cow about 100 yards right in front of us. What a show.....
Wolves do the same to a bear, Hyenas to a lion, and wild dogs to hyena(s). The pack predators know how to fight a bigger animal. But this wolf was likely an experienced individual, maybe a former Alpha male, who has been replaced. I think a young loner would not have made it uninjured - if it would have dared to the carcass. This one estimated the risk corerctly, got a meal, and got away with it - with maybe a few bites that were not decisive. I guess the coyotes still got some meal, the birds take smaller pieces at a time, but they were many, and gulping repeatedly. But they had eaten some before the wolf came.
And coyotes are p*ssy and for the most part avoid confrontations at all costs with an animal of equal or greater size. One new fact I learned about them though I never knew their range extended as far north in Canada as it does.
The Coyotes, once all 4 are together are so synchronized. Awesome pack behavior- as soon as the wolf turns it's back- a coyote is RIGHT at the rear to take a nip. Excellent video!
@@slaythembeforeme They ended up driving the wolf away, and got the kill. They definitely left a few bites as well, which in the wild an infection could easily lead to death. I remember watching something similar to this play out with a group of hyenas harassing a big male lion over a carcass. They did the same things, coming at the lion from different directions, trying to distract and land nips to the lion's hamstring. But their luck eventually ran out, as the lion was able to grab one of they hyenas by the throat. He shook the hyena HARD a few times, clamped down on its throat even tighter, and proceeded to remove said hyena from the gene pool. The other hyenas quickly found somewhere else to be.

Many do because they're uneducated and spiteful. They screw up and get their pet killed, and decide the wild animal is at fault for their stupidity. Coyote are very smart, opportunistic predators. You have a schedule with letting your dog out unwatched? They'll follow it and eat your dog when you shut him out or stray too far. The problem is killing wolves means coyotes are over breeding. I have seen where someone's cow dies and there are 30 coyotes feeding on it at one time. We need to keep the balance of nature!
It easily could have, it just didn't want to risk it. You can see throughout the video the coyotes are constantly diving for the wolf's hind legs, it had to spin around to drive them away. If it took the time to grab one, it would simply leave an opening for the other coyotes to rip out its leg tendons.
Sport, you do realize that Wyoming's elk herds have increased 56% since the 2000 right?? I'm not a wolf lover, but I have talked to the the man that was in charge of wolf reintroduction. Coyotes are amazing animals. The coyote is both cowardly and brave and that's one thing I admire about them. They are also extremely adaptable and highly intelligent predators that deserve to be respected. I've seen footage of a coyote defending her pups from a grizzly bear. She was trying to lure the bear away from her pups while risking her own life.
No different than the never ending battles between lions & hyenas, the less powerful but far more agile 'yote scavenges the leftovers after the battle is over. That lone wolf will be licking his hind quarters for a few weeks with those nasty little wounds he endured from the faster & larger numbers he had to face. One on one it would be an entirely different ballgame..
My really good friends 120 lbs pit destroyed 3 coyotes like it was nothing pit bulls have a different mentality when it comes to fighting they don’t care that there getting bit as there ripping into the Throat and ripping them around like a ragdoll
@@jessievans7216 - yes. Everyone knows a pitbull can destroy 7 coyotes, 5 hyenas, 4 wolves, 3 grizzly bears, 2 guerrillas, a Sasquatch, a bulldozer, and a honey-badger all at the same time. Plus they are the most intelligent animal on earth. I heard scientists discovered that pitbulls have been secretly teaching physics to dolphins. They're so smart they'll even attack a porcupine non-stop until all the quills are in their face.
So, huh, in the end, the wolf leaves and the four coyotes get the carcass. :P Fascinating, how a smaller animal uses numbers to tire a bigger predator out of a meal! We don't have Coyotes here, but certainly wolves.
It's very interesting. Wolves do it as well. Two or three of them can scare of a mature bear or a cougar. One-on-one, of course, the wolf isn't exactly enjoying the advantage. Numbers work for bigger prey and competition, but notice how it took those four coyotes over seven minutes to run the wolf off. Still a bad ass.
Then the wolf would just expose its behind to attack from other three coyotes. In a few seconds, it would be forced to let go of the coyote it grabbed.
@@brianlam257 True, but because of their greater bite force a few seconds is all a wolf needs to inflict serious damage on a coyote. It could even break the coyotes neck with one bite.
Bears are a massive lumbering threat to wolves. They can kill a wolf in one swipe and will often not hesitate to kill and eat wolf pups. That is where most confrontation arises between wolves and bears, when the bear gets too close to a whelping den/territory
Coyotes are over populating Arizona right now, killed three of my Dogs (A 70 pound lab, a 60 pound young Wolf-Hybrid and a 40 pound Husky pup) and literally ate my dogs in the front yard (On the ranch) and went out one morning to find all my dogs dead, half eaten and Coyotes still on site. It was disgusting! The Coyote pack was over 13 members and Contacted rangers about possible rabies in Coyote population because of foaming Coyotes...nothing, they said, "We can't do anything, please bring in sample.." I wasn't about to be touching foam. I'd be happy to welcome back more Wolves (with rabie shots) into the Habitat just to see them gain control of the Coyote population again. PLEASE BRING WOLVES BACK INTO WESTERN ARIZONA!
I had a female pitbull who killed two coyotes. Though, I live in West Virginia and the coyotes are quite small. My friend has five pits that travel in a pack that took down a pack of coyotes and a mountain lion. Another friend had a rottweiler that killed a few. Many dogs can fight off about 2 or 3, though I would get multiple dogs(around 6 or 7) and allow them to form a pack and hunt together.
***** A bite is still a bite. If the coyotes got his back legs it could mean infection or limit his ability to hunt. I think that is the actual reason that he did not just single out 1 coyote and killed them all 1 by 1. Because he might risk that one of them would bite him in the back legs and if very unlucky, his genitals. I am not sure who is fastest. I've seen a video of a pack of wolves catching and killing a coyote (in deep snow if that makes a difference).
***** I see. But I think if it tried to single one out the coyote would quickly realise it and run back to the carcass, but never the less you're right. It did look like they nipped him in the back legs or were atleast very close to.
This shows how there is strength in numbers. Even against two coyotes the wolf was in an inferior position. Against four he was overwhelmed. In India the coyote-sized wild dog called the dhole travels in packs of up to sixty animals and they have been known to kill adult tigers. They lose a few dholes in the battle but they attack the tiger in a whirlwind of slashing teeth and take it down.
They're only 7 ft long if you include 2 ft of tail and are almost 3 ft at the shoulder. At about 79 lbs a full grown male wolf wouldn't take down a healthy man. There were 160 coyote attacks in the US between 1976 and 2006. They are increasing in prevalence as we encroach on their territory. As for their killing ability. They have killed pit bulls and rottweilers so tell me again how a pack of them are harmless.
Indeed, we are constantly told that in Virginia that the coyote is a part of our natural wildlife and harmless. These comments are made by ignorant people as the coyote is an invasive species in Virginia and a skillful opportunistic hunter. They will attempt at taking a small child while considering your pets a delicacy.
Coyotes have killed/eaten 157 cats (confirmed count) in my neighborhood this summer and another 24 are missing, we're in the Chicagoland area, more and more Coyotes are being spotted in our urban area and the Coyotes are becoming more and more aggressive toward people and pets. Now I'm afraid to walk the streets alone, and the fact that my outdoor cat (who's been missing for a week now) may have been eaten by them. It's illegal to kill Coyotes in our area because they are protected by law, and since we cannot own guns here, there is no way to defend ourselves when the predators come into our backyards looking for an easy meal, whether that meal will be my 3 year toddler, or my kitty who's still mysteriously missing. :(
Take a look a a recent CNN video - a guy and his dog in the LA area were chased by a pack of about 15 coyotes. I'm glad to see a resurgence of our apex predators - as long as we're not on the damn menu.
lmao, youre in chicago with the highest crime rate in the country and youre worried about coyotes? why dont you just carry a handgun?... oh wait, youre in chicago and chicago knows its in your best interest to be unarmed at all times
Wolves have proven themselves to be fragile little pantywastes compared to coyotes. Humans have to babysit and protect wolves to keep them from being wiped out from overhunting. Humans tried to genocide coyotes with everything from poison, traps, snares, ground hunting, aerial hunting etc with zero success. Coyotes have proven to be formidable survivors but wolves need federal protection. That wolf is lucky to have survived. I bet he got bitten at least a hundred times. Wolves have their place in the ecosystem but they are highly overrated little prima Donna's compared with coyotes.
A good coyote is one that has received a .223 to the head, I understand they have a place in the food chain as scavengers, but they breed like rabbits, and are as annoying as feral pigeons.
Yea, I can't see past a horizon, I don't know whether you're talking Metaphorically or just trying to prove a point of me having such an acute eyesight.
The wolf ended up running away. And people think that wolves are tougher than American Pitbulls. If people want to hear about a battle between an animal and a group of coyotes, then watch this video with Joe Rogan talking about a story that happened where an American Pitbull killed nine coyotes - ua-cam.com/video/bbInhc52Yt8/v-deo.htmlm55s American Pitbulls were bred to take on bulls, bears, and wild boar. To see what American Pitbulls can do, watch a video called *Pit Bull Vs Bull in Maxela* where an American Pitbull takes on a bull by itself. For more info on the American Pitbull breed that even talks about how they were used to take on lions, watch a video interview with a well-know expert on the breed called *ALL ABOUT THE AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER WITH RICHARD F. STRATTON*
Gives us an idea of what fighting off four coyotes would feel like. They bite and retreat so fast and come from every angle. If you were in that situation and did not have a firearm, what would be the best defense weapons? a baseball bat? bear spray? 15 shot BB gun? Tactical knife? Thick denim pants and boots?
A single coyote vs. a wolf. No. The wolf would kill it without trouble. The wolf is bigger, stronger and faster. If the coyote gets it's leg the wolf will still kill it, but it can't hunt. If it finds it's pack on the other hand it would have help hunting and make a recovery if the others don't kill him.
Four coyotes can kill a single wolf if the wolf gets injured. That's the point of the video. And yes it happens all the time. As for wolves killing one of its own pack. It doesn't happen. If it's injured they will try and defend it. If it can't keep up. It's on its own. It's just the rules that nature had layed out.
This is a lone wolf, one without a pack. He's likely in the coyotes' territory, since the two species will form distinct demarcations and don't suffer the other one to cross over. That's why the coyotes keep after him even when he's leaving the carcass. It's a 'get your ass out of my hood' tactic. Mind, they can only pull this off because it is a lone wolf. Against a wolf pack, the coyotes don't stand a chance.
The way this wolf moves and handles all the coyotes is incredible almost majestic it’s so smooth the way spins off all the attacks and manages to be offensive split seconds later.

the birds dont have a big stomach like the wolves or coyote, so they wont eat much and the dogs know that.

Theres a story of a pittbull killing 4 coyotes. Srs. Look it up.
Absolutely. Wolves are huge and have incredible biting power.
Wish dat wolf woulda grabbed hold a one of those mangy coyotes...
Then the wolf would just expose its behind to attack from other three coyotes. In a few seconds, it would be forced to let go of the coyote it grabbed.
That's why I kill every coyote I can find
@@brianlam257 True, but because of their greater bite force a few seconds is all a wolf needs to inflict serious damage on a coyote. It could even break the coyotes neck with one bite.
@@georgeroman165 In that case, what did you think keeps the wolf from "break the coyotes neck with one bite" in a few seconds?
@@brianlam257 Which part of my reply didn't you understand???
The Relationship between Wolves and Coyotes is like the Relationship between Spotted Hyena and Wild Dogs in Africa
coyotes - Wild dogs wolves - hyenas (Wolves are bitches ;D)
Glad the wolf made it🤔👀👌👏🏼it's rough out there!😬🌷💞🌺
@skipants60 aww thats so sad wat is this place a park where u just observe the animals???
Great Video.!! nice to see a Wolf in the position that they often put Bears in...lol. Annoying isn't it.. ??
We don't like those Bears. It's different, that was my kill.
Bears are a massive lumbering threat to wolves. They can kill a wolf in one swipe and will often not hesitate to kill and eat wolf pups. That is where most confrontation arises between wolves and bears, when the bear gets too close to a whelping den/territory
A grizzly can kill a bull with one swat.
and blue whale too
+Les Brown what kind of bull...a male cow??
I love coyotes and wolves all the same but this was some crazy stuff here.
When they tell you size doesn’t matter! just remember this...
What's with the coyote call audio they're playing? Didn't know that kind of stuff was allowed in the park.
That is a 1 minute audio loop of these coyotes.
Get a couple Irish Wolfhounds. Problem solved!
***** Tried that, didn't work. Too many.
The Sumptuous Scribbler Unless said Coyotes had rabies...which they had. Foaming from the mouth.
WhensAndWhys Oh, just get a gun.
What would happen if they are all closed in the same room and there is no space for running?
Funny.... the coyote howls never seem to stop of fade off.......
**cough cough** EDITED IN **cough cough**
Allan Zhao yep it's looped I live were There coyotes and they do not do that for that long.
Wolf: don't mess with ur father.
Coyote: excuse us we r test tube babies
Damn those coyotes are jumping him poor wolf
This is me trying to eat while my cousins keep talking non sense about their lives.
the wolf is a lion and the coyote is the hyaena
good observation!!!! little bastards!ha!
Mark Jones thx
Problem is, unlike hyenas coyotes are remarkably fast and all they need to do is to bite the wolf on it's back legs.
That's incredible...
Birds are like ...... Go on,... Keep fighting guys. Lol
Bless the Wolves- May they Be safe from Human Ignorance
This is a great video,
but are you a hunter?
while in other places wolves and coyotes breed and have happy families😅
But why is this wolf alone, wheres his pack?
If a wild animal creates problems for humans and pets, must be removed discreetly
Dumbass posts the same comments on every Coyote posts. Go play with your kitty cat and stop walking the streets dumbass.
lmao, youre in chicago with the highest crime rate in the country and youre worried about coyotes? why dont you just carry a handgun?... oh wait, youre in chicago and chicago knows its in your best interest to be unarmed at all times
get a dog, particularly some sort of livestock guardian dog or a big shepherd dog.
Wolves have their place in the ecosystem but they are highly overrated little prima Donna's compared with coyotes.
it's mobbing behaviour, they probably have pups
Not all wolves have packs some live on their own or in twos.
A good coyote is one that has received a .223 to the head, I understand they have a place in the food chain as scavengers, but they breed like rabbits, and are as annoying as feral pigeons.
Don Le I agree
+Don Le But they are less annoying than you so what do you suggest we do with you?
Alone wolf it's easy pray, as a pack there unstoppable.

You spin me right round, baby right round . . .
Yea, I can't see past a horizon, I don't know whether you're talking Metaphorically or just trying to prove a point of me having such an acute eyesight.
The wolf got tried of listen to the loop...... lol
Cayotes are like the hybrid between chihuahuas and hyenas
The wolf ended up running away. And people think that wolves are tougher than American Pitbulls. If people want to hear about a battle between an animal and a group of coyotes, then watch this video with Joe Rogan talking about a story that happened where an American Pitbull killed nine coyotes - ua-cam.com/video/bbInhc52Yt8/v-deo.htmlm55s
American Pitbulls were bred to take on bulls, bears, and wild boar. STRATTON*
Are you an idiot? You put a single pitbull there and it would have been torn apart by the four coyotes.
Guy Says you pitbull-fan-boys are very delusional
did the wolf win?
Love the fake, looped animal noises!
It is a loop, but not faked. These are the actual noises made by the coyotes.
Ah, I see
They can be annoying little shits.
You have never heard coyotes.
They have a way of almost being ventriloquists.
Sigh
Gives us an idea of what fighting off four coyotes would feel like. They bite and retreat so fast and come from every angle. If you were in that situation and did not have a firearm, what would be the best defense weapons? a baseball bat? bear spray? 15 shot BB gun? Tactical knife? Thick denim pants and boots?
meanwhile...the vultures get their fair share
Mother nature prevailed
if you realized it or not but the same noise is repeating all over again -_-
He got his fill and moved along. Even four coyotes couldn't stop that!
Kangal's are tough in their environment, but out there, nope, just another kill.
A Kangal would be dead in under five minutes. One bite to the lower extremities from the wolf and the Kangal is done.
Was really hoping he'd catch at least one of them.
Just one coyote injures the wolves hind leg and it's over. The four will kill that that wolf at that point.
Claude Rains I agree with what your saying, but Joseph has a good point.
***** They don't kill each other and it hardly ever ends with an injury.
Now if you film one that does. I'm willing to watch it.
Claude Rains Unless the beta wins...
Wolf is a badass, Coyote's must have pups nearby.
Wish the Wolf's pack came along ;D
This is a lone wolf, one without a pack. He's likely in the coyotes' territory, since the two species will form distinct demarcations and don't suffer the other one to cross over. That's why the coyotes keep after him even when he's leaving the carcass. It's a 'get your ass out of my hood' tactic. Mind, they can only pull this off because it is a lone wolf. Against a wolf pack, the coyotes don't stand a chance.
