I think I saw on his display a 2.19-20 lap time. Moto gp rides this track right at the 2.00 min mark. Just goes to show you the speed of moto gp.

The gear shift from 4th to 5th is really short compared to every other gear. Weird.
Short ratio. Very common for racer to do so for mantaining high rpm so the engine work easier if the rider wants to gear up or gear down. CMIIW.
That's not weird, they set it up like that so the bike can run efficient around the track. Just look at the end of the longest straight, the bike used all the engine rpm before the rider hit the brake at braking point.
Noticed that too. There are reasons I suppose but it is so short it is almost pointless.

wonder how long it will be until we see electronics doing all the work. such as doing all the up and down shifting based on gps positions around the track.(like an auto transmission but using the traditional sequential manual transmission) yamaha had real time engine management years ago on the M1 that worked that way.

It's like tunnel effect. When you go really fast and focus your vision on one point, the effect is your surrounding become blur and only focus straight ahead. That's why racers must have good vision, and pin point target fixation where is the eye telling the direction to go.

Which shifter on your r1 ?
I think its a short shifter. Next level and the top is the seamless shifter, like in the Moto GP, but its very expensive, and need maintence very often. With a short shifter you can shift in 0.1 sec, with a seamless you can do it in 0.01..

I think this r1 has shorter gear than standard. It is to make the bike accelerate a little bit faster
@@aahmadfaruq4978 Well, that was exactely the thing that i was wondering... Would fifth gear increase accelleration or opposite (since the moment you shift 4-5 and later 5-6 is actually a "dead" moment).
@@janvdb8785 It's only matter of setup, each rider have their own setup which better for current track. This current gearing setup is purposely for acceleration from corner exit. Because you don't really need top speed on sepang. You actually don't really need long 5-6 gear ratio because its only used on the back straight

I was never interested I'm motorbike racing I always thought it look boring. Seeing it like this tho looks way more intense than I thought. Also this would look amazing in vr.
Not ideal setting to film, totally distorted. Motion blur is not accurate and also the track is extremely flat in this setting which is totally not the case for Sepang. It looks cool because it seems you're going warp speed, but after about 5 seconds its unrealistic.

It's endurance race, they race not just to be fast, but to be smart. Early brake is one of the strategy to safe the tyres and the fuel in the very long race.
