So, in one of your long videos, you talked about needing a separate piece of equipment, the ART CLEANBox Pro specifically. This was to handle the transition between the 1/4" TRS *BALANCED* output of the Rodecaster Pro 2 and changing it into the 3.5mm *UNBALANCED* stereo input on the ATEM Mini Pro ISO. It was implied that not only did you have to convert the size of the connectors, but also had to address the issue of Balanced to Unbalanced. I've been setting up our podcast/video studio over the past month. I have the Rodecaster Pro 2 handling audio and feeding into the Atem Mini Pro ISO. I was using a dual 1/4" TS to 3.5" stereo TRS, but still had noise. Yes, I changed both devices to Line In / Line Out. No, it wasn't this exact cable, although I did order it and it will be here in two days. But, I ordered and installed the ART CLEANBox Pro to fix the noise. It did, until I plugged in cameras again. Noise was back. Just by chance, I traced it to a multi-port USB wall charger I was using to power both my laptop and my battery bank I was powering cameras with. Turns out, it back feeds noise into the entire system when more than one thing is plugged into it. But, I digress... My question is this, regardless of whether my noise problem was caused elsewhere after all... should I still use the ART CLEANBox? Is that the proper way to do it since the Rodecaster outputs are actually TRS and using a TS cable shorts 2 of the contacts in the Rodecaster's output channels? Or is the Rodecaster Pro 2 only sending a 2 contact signal (TS) through each 3 contact output (TRS), so it doesn't make a difference? Is the cable truly dealing with the balanced vs unbalanced? Which way is the "right way"... and not just a "well, it works until it doesn't" solution? One less piece of equipment that can inject its own issues vs a simple cable seems like the cheaper and smarter conclusion. But not if it isn't correctly handling the transition of signal.
Both options result in unbalanced audio into the ATEM Mini. BUT, if you need a longer cable, I would absolutely use the Cleanbox and the XLR cable should be the long one. This at least gives you more noise immunity on the long cable run.
@@MrAnderson234 I used a "Disino 1/8 Inch TRS Stereo to Dual 1/4 inch TS Mono Y-Splitter Cable" (6ft) from Amazon. Although Curtis' link above is likely a good cable to use also. A good cable is a great place to start in making sure you don't introduce a problem into the mix. I returned the ART CLEANBox. Once I cleared the noise I talk about below, it was unnecessary for me. I replaced the power adapter I was using for my cameras and laptop. I went with a USB-C battery bank to power the cameras, and am powering the laptop off of a separate dock. The ATEMs seem to be very sensitive to noise from other HDMI devices being powered off the same source as the ATEM. I've had both cameras and laptops cause noise over the HDMI inputs if they are powered from the same outlet/source as the ATEM. Unplugging power/HDMI one source at a time helps to isolate which one the culprit is.
Actually if you dont change the settings inside the ATEM control app, you will get unbelievable hiss/noise. There is solution, change the settings for the input inside the ATEM MINI.
@@curtisjudd I have just noticed that I did not set my RCP2 to Fixed Output Level and am hoping this helps make my recordings louder when live streamed. btw I have not had any noise issues so far using the Y cable I purchased and what I do recommend others check your other devices that are connected (usb hubs, card readers, hdmi splitters, hdmi out from iphone, etc) to your computer and ac power source as one of them maybe producing noise and it never was your Y cable to begin with. I found noticed one of my iphone hdmi converters was initially contributing to making some noise and once I removed it my sound was clean. Like other have said, make sure line out is selected in the atem mini pro and fixed output level is selected in the RCP2 when wanting to record all audio through the RCP@ send to Atem Mini Pro and then out to live stream.
Why deal with the unreliable 3.5mm jack on the ATEM Minis when you can embed the signal into HDMI? No actual camera input needed, I use a ~50€ china-made "HDMI Audio Embedder HDMI2.0 4K60Hz 18G HDR" device with a 3.5mm input labelled "line in" from Amazon. Supposedly the "Lindy 38203" will do the same. My daily webcam for work is a relatively affordable HuddleCam Pro/Konftel 20 with HDMI out. The HDMI embedder into that signal turns the ATEM Mini as the *USB Webcam* (from Windows perspective) into a versatile device that needs no driver installation or companion software (try that in the corporate world).
Thank you, Curtis. This helps a lot; I see the RCP2 can set the monitor output to line level, which i believe is the best setting (and then setting the ATEM input to a line level as well, of course)? Also - I wish the RCP2 analogue output has mix-minus :(
@@shihchingyong3220 I am experiencing the same as you. My workaround was to use one of the rcp2 headphone jacks out to mic #1 on atem mini pro set to line which allows me to adjust the level going back to the atem mini pro using the headphone dial on the rcp2. See my other post for more info. This is the best way that I know so far as to how to live stream using both devices together. If you mix is only mono, you could use one of the outputs for the ATEM and the other for the power amplifiers or powered speakers. But if you need a stereo mix, you'll need some sort of splitter. I don't have experience with any particular line level splitter so I don't have one to recommend, but hopefully that gets you pointed in the right direction.
Thanks for the tip. Question, I have the RodeCaster Pro II and the Atem Mini pro ISO. What is the best way to plug in my own set of headphones so I can monitor everything live as I am mixing the recordings? The only way I could come up with would be to use this method in the video, the HDMI out to a Monitor or TV then plug a setup of headphones into the TV to listen live. That should give an overall audio monitor. Thanks in advance.
That’s exactly what I did when I used the ATEM Mini Pro. However, there’s a lot of latency so it is good for checking that there are no major problems but very disorienting to monitor your own voice. So for that, I’d switch to headphones connected to the RØDECaster.
I am using the Rode Caster Pro II and the ATEM Mini Pro ISO - I am picking mic audio up through the Caster, but when the 1/4" are plugged into the Mini Pro via the 3.5mm jack, no audio is picking up. What could be causing this?
Thanks for this. Just one question regarding the 4 headphone outputs. Can I use them in the same way? I mean just run a 6.3 TRS to 3.5 TRS cable to the Atem mini or to any other amplifier or device (e.g. the cameras for scratch audio)? Or is there a difference between the monitor out and the 4 headphone jacks? I do some hybrid events and would like to run 1 signal into the Atem, 1 signal to the local room audio, are the headphone jacks good for this?
I haven't tested the headphone outputs extensively, but they're not line level outputs like the 2 1/4" outputs on the back of the unit. So you'd probably need to add more gain downstream to make that work. Not ideal.
Hello Curtis. I wanted to run hybrid meeting using ATEM mini Extreme, Rodecaster Pro 2 and speaker for inhouse audience. How can I get audio from RCP2 to ATEM mini Extreme ISO and to the speaker?
There are several options depending on your setup, but you might use the RCP 2’s monitor outputs for the PA system and USB from the RCP2 to your streaming computer if that’s how you’re set up?
It will not sound great because it will deliver phase inverted audio on the right channel which is disorienting at best, and completely silent on mono playback devices.
