Thanks for all the content - it's allowed me to take a step back and approach training completely differently and not take it "as seriously" and continue to make gains on my terms.
I've been following you for a couple of years. This whole time I have only learned from you. Not only things related to the gym and training, but also in the way you explain things, you are calm, precise. You are elegant, and this episode prove it. The comparison is for those who are humble in character and satisfied with knowledge. Others just want to prevail to show off how big they are. Keep it up, the community needs people like you. Love from Italy!
Eugene, from a perspective of following you for a few years: Your entire brand, to me, is "here's some off the wall exercises you can try if the conventional stuff just *isnt* working for you, for WHATEVER reason. So give it a shot, or don't. Whatever helps YOU". And, from that, I've found things that completely changed how I approach my training. You are not a cookie cutter fitness channel. You also don't need to fuel engagement with negativity, like this guy does. You have also evolved over the years and have incorporated so many other professional opinions and methods into your own (looking at you, Dr. Mike). We're all on this journey of discovering what works for us, as individuals, and there's very few people I still follow to steer the ship toward that discovery, but you're one of them. Cheers.
Having you in this space is not only incredibly helpful for so many people, but you genuinely push for its improvement and lift us all up. Keep it up! we all appreciate it.

I love how Eugene called this guy out months ago then he assaults Jeff. Everyone has their own kind of training and its insane to belittle other people for theirs. Good job Eugene. You do you homie.
That 1:30 into the video mentioning thinking doing more or double would increase the gains hit home. I was in that mindset a year back and needed sooo much more time to recover and my body just never recovered properly before the next time I hit that body part. More is not always better. Love the video!
To be fair, the guy knows a ton, so I do give credit and respect where it's due. We have different ways in approaching matters of disagreement - but hey, you can't please everyone and he's unapologetically himself - Gotta respect that too 😌
Eugene you’re being very charitable to this Mike guy which is commendable. But putting your elbows on a bench is too complicated for this man. Dudes a “trainer” (hypertrophy specific I imagine) and can’t articulate why he doesn’t like this particular exercise variation. Probably means he doesn’t have a reasonable argument and is just a bitch
No he doesn't, Mike regularly says he talks about what works for him, that it doesn't mean it'll work for you. Mike's videos have been a big reason why I'm still making gains at 61
The way you handled this is truly special and something we should all try and remember and follow. John would be so happy to see the way you handled this and also be happy seeing people try and think outside the norm because that is how we grow and continue to learn it trying new things and reporting it to others to try and see what their thoughts are on it. Not just being a cyber bully who’s followers feed off of criticism
I'm a 60 year old lifter and I literally watch content from multiple creators, male and female, you, Mr Teo, Dr. Mike, Jared Feather, Jeff Nippard, Dana Lin Baily, Victoria Scott just to name a few and I do not understand the hate that other professionals give to you all. It's disgusting. Like you said, have a conversation, discuss and either agree on the science or not. Even that would create more content for the haters for their own fanbase, just makes people like that guy look immature. Maybe he needs to back off on the gear, got a little too much anger going on. And to be honest I love your workout fit, unique and love the vibe.
Beautifully said at the end coach. This is what I'm here for: simple clean advice with no hate or sexual references. You're doing a great job Eugene 🙏🏽💪🏽
I totally agree .. I don’t get why people would rather insult than have an intelligent conversation to better themselves and everyone else to broaden their own perspective on the subject .. keep it up my dude !!
I love your nuance and the open-mindedness to experiment with exercises and techniques without ignoring the "why." It's always been based on sound principles. That's why I and MANY others are here. No dogma. ✊🏽
I wonder if Big Mike would've approached the video differently if Eugene would have uploaded it a few years back as Hugene... Shame that smart (apparently only in specific fields, like training) people judge so quickly. I guess that's the reality of social media, easy-fast-to-consume-and-judge form of content we see today. Eugene is a phenomenal trainer, trainee, and above all (I would say most important) - person. Keep rocking it mate.

Well said! Mad respect for you, your humility, and dedication to helping people better themselves. Even going as far as to offer a hand in friendship to someone that prefers to personally attack.
It’s interesting that you contrasted Mike and John Meadows on screen doing a pushdown, but it’s contrasting in more ways than one. While having never met John, anything you see from him is being incredibly nice and an example of a true mentor in bodybuilding (and life). Fantastic shout out to the Mountain Dog.
Fuck yeah bro, love your content. Keep it up, keep it positive. You're a rare breed in an industry full of huge egos. Everyone's out to prove their methods and ideology is best, you're an idiot if you do anything else etc, but we all have our own angles on training that connect with us best and make our mind & bodies feel good. It should be about sharing techniques & experiences that can help one another, but everyone on socials just wants to shit on each other.
I have always hated the schoolyard need for some people to put you down so that they look and feel bigger. Unfortunately we find these people in all walks of life, especially in the gym. I have worked out since I was 15 (now 51) and I have found know-it-alls, arseholes and just mean and angry people everywhere I've trained. This includes Australia, Europe, SE Asia, India and the US. It's a pity that these attitudes exist. However, for every one of these undesirable people, there are 10 giving, friendly and interesting people, who are a pleasure to be around and share ideas with. Great work for reaching out to Mike, Eugene. Unfortunately when you meet people who think there is only one way to do something, it may be better to let them have it and move on. Life is too short to spend too much time banging your head against a brick wall. Thx for all the insight and work. Liked and subbed.

Hopefully he can rehabilitate and learn from his negativity. The fitness community has an opportunity to grow into the best inclusive part of online society. I have come to realize that there can be the occasional bit of truth in the hate, this is very rare, but most hate is someone punching up for attention. One thing I would love to do is dispel misinformation, but most misinformation is people taking things out of context or removing specific portions purposefully and it creates a vicious whirlpool. The only thing people should be doing is their due diligence, this is how experts become experts, they may not have all the right answers but they know where to find them. People are literally gatekeeping themselves by not using the powerful tool in their hands everyday. I say if they want to hate, let them. With time I will outlast them and my undeniability will only increase as long as I remain diligent.
I can’t coherently express my thoughts on this video, it’s deeper and thicker than my next baseline comment - but I enjoy your positivity, explanation, knowledge and rapport on your videos. It’s what makes me keep coming back and it’s very much welcome. And once I’ve cleared up some injuries, I’ll be strongly considering subscribing to the Ganbaro app. In other news, I’d like to hear some Iron Maiden in your next video, thank you please.
Hey Eugene, I just wanna say thank you so much for all the different variations and exercises you give out. Just like you said, I was the kid that felt FOMO when few years ago every fitness content creator was saying barbell back squats was king but every time I tried I'd injure my low back even with good form/ techniques/ bracing. Tried dumbbells/ goblets/ machines, but all never gave that same connection I had with barbell squats. Almost entirely gave up on building my legs until I saw your videos on Zercher squats. Tried them and they're amazing! It's thanks to you that I have this renewed motivation to finally squat with a barbell again. For all the haters you have, there are way more people like me who can't do certain movements but have benefited so much because of your different approaches and way of thinking to exercises. You're a treasure of knowledge to this community and world!
I will be happy to chat with you and debate anything because I love talking shop. I have found after 20 years of educating coaches all over the world, that almost every course or class or conference i have presented at the coaches are amazing and open to all information. What i dont like is when social media decides to pit one over the other. I also do not like when we have differential credentials showing up as experts in other industries. You need to be in the trenches coaching people in order to truly understand the science. Great points and i enjoy your content Eugene.
As a teacher, I've always said, "to argue with a cheat becomes futile & worse when seemingly targeted; we'll only feed their ego while making excuses when (if) proven wrong". And it's bad because if we continue like this, in a century, many will demand to wear or have same pigments in order to breathe; not realising, they're told by an AI that needs no oxygen. Human characteristics are very diverse. Like methods for gain, language & types of vanity online (tnx to marketing). As a person that would know basic human dynamics, those in training shouldn't argue, however use knowledge to feed those whom need without the hype or grand for attention.. ..cos if so, then it's a temporary setback that only lasts while funding is available. Real knowledge, is forever and worth way more in respect, rather than awe for the moment, it'll last generations.🙏🤝
If anyone discredits Teo, I automatically give them the bombastic side eye. Eugene, you're a gem and a wealth of knowledge. Wishing you nothing but the best.

In fact I've literally been trying over the past few days to figure out where you get those waffle knit thermal tops from, they're dope lol. Ad hominems seem to be particularly common in the fitness space I feel, even that old argument of "but Arnold/Ronnie did/didn't it" is an ad hominem argument - it's a shame that so many people in fitness seem so content to judge books by their cover.
You really handled this fake "drama" perfectly. Did he ever respond at all, or did he just realize he screwed the pooch on this one and continue to pretend it never happened? By the way, I really like both of you. I've "known" you since you first appeared on John Meadow's channel and I've only stumbled upon Mike very recently, but thoroughly enjoyed a few videos of his. Hi Eugen, please know that the tricep exercise you recommended has really helped me. I have right elbow pain on almost all overhead extensions - doing the preacher extension you showed here is great - I have no elbow pain!! Thank you so much
Mike is just falling into the increasingly large camp of influencers who never had to complicate their training to get big and strong so assume that the rest of the population is the same but just being stupid, lazy, or some other epithet they want to choose that day. What he doesn't realize is that a lot of these "overcomplicated" movements have their place for people with different body types based on leverages, muscle response, joint issues, etc. It essentially just a mild form of ableism. Good for you Mike, basic triceps pushdowns got you big and never hurt your elbow, some of us might want some extra stability for any number of reasons.
He would absolutely agree with that? He's said like Skkullcrushers are great but if they hurt your elbows try something else. Sometimes he's being a bit of a douche but when he's giving actual advice he always says do what works and feels best for you

I wholeheartedly agree about the social media landscape. The fitness industry is simultaneously one of the best and also one of the most toxic environments I've encountered. It's bewildering how the same environment that promotes personal growth and development, where people come together to support each other in reaching goals, is also then the same environment where others go to to prompt themselves up, tear others down, and negatively impact people's life outcomes as a result. We could all do with a lot more critical thinking and a lot less straw-manning/ad hominem attitudes too, and not just in fitness. The ability to review new and/or conflicting information and change our views is essential to growth and something that is frustratingly absent in modern, sensationalist society. I applaud your approach not only to training but to critical thinking. I would love to see more influential people come out with similar messages.
Agree with you re social media beefs. Follow you for your excellent content & your personality. It's hard to be a healthy social media leader/educator ("influencer") with all the challenges of social media. Thank you for all you do including this discussion and hope folks treat you with respect. We all need to be able to disagree and talk/debate it out without personal baseless attacks. Sadly, that's harder to find these days, no matter where you are.
Little Mike Van Wyck is a typical " I almost made it" story in Bodybuilding. He got a pro card and did like two shows and blew out a pec or something and retired. Even if he was healthy he never would of made an impact with the wide waist and narrow quads he had. I lost a lot of respect for him after I saw how he conducts himself. Eric Kanevski of Kanevski fitness did a prank video that was just silly, and tough guy Mike showed his true colors. Thank you for always being a class act Eugene. The fact that John Meadows supported you says enough.
I’ve tried every training philosophy I can think of over the years and have found that I grow the most from a powerlifting high intensity based program. I also think that is partially true because I mentally enjoy that training more and the body responds accordingly (yes I know it’s some hippy mind/body shit lol). I encourage folks just find what works for you and keep doing it
Eugene…I’ve been training 40 years. There are many that are great trainers and have a large following thanks to SM. There are few trainers that offer the instruction and intelligent method as you do. And you have the body to go with your gifts as a teacher. Big Mike, unfortunately lets his bitterness take over his talents. Thank you!
That kneeling cable triceps extension with the bench was the staple of first mr Olympia Larry Scott. He had a unique bench made which allows his head to dip in between the elbows for more stretch and ROM
I’m a trainer myself, I’ve been following you for a while and I find you very creative and inspiring. That sort of attack shows insecurity from his part, exercise selection is highly arbitrary and prone to personal preferences, just want to say thank you for the information and content. I know that receiving that sort of criticism can be frustrating, those of us enjoying your content are way more.
i love your style. i'm mid 30s now and for me workouts are just fun aside from work. however you gotta be worrying about some of our youngster who are new to this and consume social media fitness every day. its full of commercials, supplements, merch etc etc. everyone showing their perfect body with a pump in front of a camera - mostly working out topless. you cut a lot of toxicity out. if someone is 18 and starts a gym journey and wanna learn some stuff i would recommened your channel above most others. its also in the sweet spot of not getting overload with science and information. keep it up
Aren't all exercises subjective? Let's start there and then encourage people to try different approaches. Love your content Eugene and your life philosophy. Kepp lifting and playin that guitar!
The reason why I mainly do leg press and hack squat in the gym is it helps me get into a really good stretch. With long legs it can be exceedingly difficult to hit a good depth squat for more than a few sets, while I can pound out volume on the other two. The reality is leg days can be so different depending on what you are going for and don't be afraid to try a lot of different movements. Cheers Eugene
My cousin is a very successful PR manager and I always remember them saying "you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter and make it just as shiny". If you're talking about it and about the influencer in question then you're drawing more attention to him as a result (I'd never heard of him until this video but I watch your videos regularly). Sadly negativity garners more attention than positivity in the social media space because today's society feeds off drama (misery loves company) generally due to people's inability to take responsibility for their lackluster lives because they don't want to give up the "comfort" of bad lifestyle choices. "No attention is bad attention" because it gets his name in people's mouths and heads, and society is fickle enough to forget the beef and move on quickly to the next drama, but they'll remember his name.
16:45 thanks for adding the definiton, it realy helps us non native speakers. also i recently shiftet do less exercises and more intensity on legdays and my legs still feal fried like never before
I think there is a difference in mindset. One mind is open for discussion and being able to change your thoughts, the other is having everything already figured out.

I see a Eugene Teo video, I like right away. Solid dude and one of the best out there!
Thank you! 🙏
@@coacheugeneteo thank YOU!!
I used to watch Mike. I thought he was really insightful, but he started just rubbisging everyone else. Almost as if everything became calling out other trqiners for pinching his ideas! I got totally fed up with him. As contrast i have been following Eugene a lot longer and stuck by him because of his genuine approach!
Thanks for everything Eugene!
same, i don't really follow him that much because it seems like everything pisses him off lol
Bro if you dont like Mike, wait till you see Paul Carter...
same here... Mike's channel is 50% shitting on others and 50% showing same tips over and over
there is a video on youtube where Mike and one of his employee is literally threatening other youtubers at a show event just because they asked him his weight and height..... Mike has a huge pb to control his emotion...
so much insecurity... not a good personality

Thank you for being such a good force in this industry! You are always so respectful and I admire your strength too keep it professional and your mentality to keep wanting to learn more and to see things from other perspectives.
I hope this negativity don’t effect you too much. Remember that you have a lot of people that appreciate you for who you are and what you bring to the community!
I just love the vibe Bianca has around her squats. Angry music, aggressive entry under the bar.

Hey, Eugene, I really like your channel. I am thankful for your knowledge, but, besides that, I appreciate a lot that you are well spoken.
Here after small mike’s assault on jeff nippard
Mike has had some great advice in the past, and has helped me grow tremendously! That being said, his negative attitude and general bully behavior has become completely unbearable lol. I hope he gets some help
Yeahhh I like his training articulation but I don’t stay for the personality aspect of his content.
Damn this hits different now 😂

That Bulgarian hop squat looks absolutely brutal, I'd be wheezing for the rest of the workout
Agree with you regarding Mike van Wyck. I follow you both but he has a really negative approach to everything like he knows it all.
To be fair, the guy knows a ton, so I do give credit and respect where it's due.
We have different ways in approaching matters of disagreement - but hey, you can't please everyone and he's unapologetically himself - Gotta respect that too 😌
@@coacheugeneteoEugene, I think he just knows he will never be as “big” a man as you. He’d never give you the same grace you give him.
@@coacheugeneteo coach , what really the purpose of kneeling ang resting the triceps on the bench on 17:23?
This is probably the best response video i've seen, good job!!! the Australian accent helps alot too!!
All my respect Eugene! I love to see your videos and this one in particular. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 💭
No dogma. ✊🏽
I love my corner of fitness internet. I'm happy i don't need to engage with nonsense. Thanks Eugene, love your channel!
Thank you for helping me level up regardless of how I feel about whats right so I have no choice but to grow. Love to you always
Love the Rant! You do you! i hate to hear others get to you like this. I love your content always give me something different to think about trying when im in the gym. Keep up the great work dont feel like you have to engage negative comments you got this bro keep it up!
With so many channels to choose from, I won't give a second look to one that goes for personal or subjective insult. They invariably have nothing to say. Keep up the great work.

I did Bulgarians the other day cursing it the whole time and wanting to quit before during and after every rep. But i finished 😂
Proud of you brother 🫡 We fight the good fight
Lol it reminds me of a good night, especially the last sentence😂😂😂
I love your videos and how you share your knowledge how you present yourself so genuine and kind ❤ Ty!
Thank you for sharing, as always, Eugene! Your short, effective workouts have been a game changer for me! You are greatly appreciated! 🏋️♀️🙏✨

It's good to be open minded because you never know who you could learn something useful from.
Subscribed. You are a trainer first and an influencer second. That oozes from your persona and how you explain yourself. Mike has issues that he'll pay for soon enough. Hopefully he can rehabilitate and learn from his negativity. The fitness community has an opportunity to grow into the best inclusive part of online society. You are literally saving lives by getting people into exercise. Hope other influencers can understand their shared responsibility. Cheers.
I actually had no idea who you were before this video, I just heard them talk about this matter on fouads podcast and honestly just impressed with how you handled it in this video
I am very curious which episode, if you happen to remember. I would like to listen as well. Thanks !
Great video. Really enjoyed this. Refreshing, it didn't fill my head with noise. Heartfelt. Peaceful. Nice work, man! Much appreciated 💪
Love your content brotha, Ive seen that with my own and seen more gains and able to sustain it fir loner, which is the key. No point in doing high volume if you cant sustain it and fatigue outways stimulus.
Also in addition I appreciate your openness to discussion and always wanted to learn, even when you are getting attacked for no reason and then not being capable of having a discussion over said matter.
Love your content!
This was a great rant Eugene, thanks for putting this out there!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate this man? Came for the clickbait title and hot tea and stayed for the amazing training content.
I swear you have the best music taste in all fitness youtube. btw i find your gym outfits great as hell :D
I'm so glad to hear it brother 🫡
you should try SSB squats
You both are so inspirational. Locked in!
Man I love your content, Eugene! Love your campaigning for positivity and open-mindedness in fitness, love your measured and nuanced communication and love your trail hiker outfits!
I'll just keep ignoring the drama and pick up whatever's useful and makes sense to me at the moment :)
But I'm glad you're still sharing your journey! Never thought of doing Bulgarian split squats Zercher-style. Looking forward to trying it out! Cheers :)
Sometimes he's being a bit of a douche but when he's giving actual advice he always says do what works and feels best for you
@@BrofUJu He says do what works for you until it's time to randomly insult others on the internet for doing exercises he doesn't like.
@@BrofUJu "it depends" is always the best answer. Mike fell into the fame trap. He thinks there is one way.

This vid aged like fine wine 🍷
Agree with you re social media beefs. Follow you for your excellent content & your personality. It's hard to be a healthy social media leader/educator ("influencer") with all the challenges of social media. Thank you for all you do including this discussion and hope folks treat you with respect. We all need to be able to disagree and talk/debate it out without personal baseless attacks. Sadly, that's harder to find these days, no matter where you are.
I find approaching life with the focus on trying to learn as much as I can beats constantly trying to argue or dispute others.
Careful bro, big mikes gonna fly out and push you because you hurt his feelings
You're a better man than most, E. Thank you for keeping it classy. We see you. -J
Very relevant video in light of what Mike did to Jeff
Little Mike Van Wyck is a typical " I almost made it" story in Bodybuilding. He got a pro card and did like two shows and blew out a pec or something and retired. Even if he was healthy he never would of made an impact with the wide waist and narrow quads he had. I lost a lot of respect for him after I saw how he conducts himself. Eric Kanevski of Kanevski fitness did a prank video that was just silly, and tough guy Mike showed his true colors. Thank you for always being a class act Eugene. The fact that John Meadows supported you says enough.
eugene and jeff need to pull up on mike van wyck.
Great response Eugene!!
learned a ton form you, and not only about gym related subjects
Thank you!
Nostradamus-like with this engagement.
That kneeling cable triceps extension with the bench was the staple of first mr Olympia Larry Scott. He had a unique bench made which allows his head to dip in between the elbows for more stretch and ROM
Prophetic.
That TOOL in the background brought a smile to me! Haha I also PR to TOOL.
i love your style. i'm mid 30s now and for me workouts are just fun aside from work. however you gotta be worrying about some of our youngster who are new to this and consume social media fitness every day. its full of commercials, supplements, merch etc etc. everyone showing their perfect body with a pump in front of a camera - mostly working out topless. you cut a lot of toxicity out. if someone is 18 and starts a gym journey and wanna learn some stuff i would recommened your channel above most others. its also in the sweet spot of not getting overload with science and information. keep it up
Aren't all exercises subjective? Let's start there and then encourage people to try different approaches. Love your content Eugene and your life philosophy. Kepp lifting and playin that guitar!
Well said Eugene 👏
