For the individual that asked about the unequal weight :
You can actually load the stems of a machine like the hack squat with an unequal amount of weight if you want; the machine will apply the load equally.

the sad part is for machines like this some of those gym trainers dont even know we can do that , understanding basic physics is good for everyone

    • @Cervateus
      @Cervateus 6 днів тому

I'm not sure if it would actually have any noticeable impact, but I can imagine that uneven loading done to the extreme could increase resistance and therefor load. I can also imagine that this could wear out the machine a bit quicker over time. No idea if the potential difference would be big enough to care about though. The two potential negatives above, together with the appealing symmetry is enough for me to use even weights on both sides. In all honesty, it's probably mostly my brain that simply doesn't like it to be uneven, haha. :D

you don't get huge benefits from working a muscle in its strongest ROM section (i.e. when it is stretched), but rather in its weakest section (maximum shortening). it is no coincidence that we train to fill the gaps, the weaknesses, not to improve where we are already strong by accentuating disharmonies and imbalances (classic idea of the gigantic bodybuilder in the upper body but with flamingo legs leading to long-term motor problems even in everyday life). if we then look at the biomechanics, the biceps femoris is a knee flexor as its main function. in deadlifts how important is knee flexion compared to leg curls?. the hamstrings are co-active in hip flexion-extension but the primer is always the biggest and strongest muscle, i.e. the gluteus maximus, and you have to deactivate it a lot to act more on the hamstrings. in light of what has been reported (a mix of theory and practice): do you still feel like affirming the same concept or do you consider re-evaluating it?

If anyone didn't know this technique is used for not muscle growth. its to stabilize the muscle to build frame to strengthen the ligaments, so they don't tear off the bone. its designed to condition the muscles to hold more weight. its help to strengthen your knee joints so they don't buckle lifting large amount weight. this a power lifter technique. you will gain a little muscle but not much.

Great video! I've been riding a bicycle since the mid 70's always pushing the big gears launching onto passing trucks and busses due to these riding habits my legs looks like the legs of bicycle sprinter, and many of these rides involved being in the saddle for nearly a whole day, I wasn't trying to build huge legs they just ended up this way because I simply liked riding my bicycles, at one point I was having a hard time with wearing regular pants, so I started wearing army pants, problem solved at the age of 16 I was doing 100 plus mile rides with 7,500 of climbing tossed into the mix, fast ford-ward 40 plus years I'm still on the bicycle and my legs are still fairly large at 65 I can still nearly leg press the full rack, but nowadays due to some old injuries from the past I need to wear a knee brace, the last few years I have been pushing the envelope with my gym work-outs going to the gym 7 days a week with each session lasting roughly 2 hours and I'm in the process of slimming down my legs even then I'm having one hell of a time when trying to remove my knee brace my calves are bigger than ever with signs of lots and lots of definition, at 65 I was thinking how is this possible because as we age we're supposed to be loosing some of our muscle mass but I guess this doesn't apply to myself, Oh well I'll take as it comes.

So i have a question, I'm a beginner and i have done just 2 sets of smith machine RDLS with a 2-3 second eccentric control and i have a lot of soreness and it's been 3 days.
Does it take usually this long to recover when you're doing only 2 sets or did i dp something wrong?
Also, any key tips to recover quickly?
Hoping someone answers. Would really help.

If it is your first time doing the exercise or you are resuming after a while it can be normal. The next time you should not be sore for that long.
If however it is a repeating pattern then it is a sign you need to back off a little.

The ”48 hour” muscle recovery thing is general and not literal. When you’re new and not used to high consistent load you have slightly longer recovery time. Also for example heavy deadlifts to failure, you typically need around a week to recover from in order to do the same weight again, but even that I feel is not FULLY recovered. You’re going to notice if you take 1-2 weeks off the gym you’ll probably set a personal best on your next lift. Besides it’s entirely normal to be ”the most sore” 2-3 days after your session. Especially RDLs since your hamstring and glutes are large muscles and require more time to recover :) Tips to recover: protein, sleep and an hour walk every day. The walks acts as ”active recovery” you can look that up, and if you workout hard and lack sleep after, you’ll be sore for a year.

Why was the hack squat 40kg on one side and 20 on the other, am i missing something?

Less plates to grab than two 10kgs. As you’re loading a sled not a barbell it won’t feel any different when you’re using the machine. Obviously if the weight disparity on one side was massive it might make the machine mechanically/structurally unsafe, but a one plate difference isn’t going to do anything like that.
I do it all the time for 5kg jumps as typically the 2.5kg plates are only found in the racks and the weight trees by the bigger leg machines are usually stocked with 5kg and up only, so easier just to grab one of them than go for a trip across the gym.

      Calves are genetic

in the leg curl in the starting position, the first 15°-20° of the ROM are loaded on the triceps surae because the hamstrings are too stretched, beyond the active ROM and not being able to generate enough force to move the lever, the calves take care of it. after that ROM stretch, they reduce the activation becoming only synergistic support muscles and the work is mostly transferred to the hamstrings. it is not the best option because it works mostly the soleus, while the 2 gastrocnemius, are activated best with the knee fully extended while extending the ankle, but it is still a useful exercise if done only in that ROM. similar speech when you are in the maximum depth in the hack squat (from when the hamstrings are in contact with the calves and for the subsequent 45° in the push phase). wanting to emphasize the gastrocnemius, you can do the sissy hack squat and keep the feet "ballerina" instead of "hammer" in the leg curl in the ROM stretch loaded on the calves. calf problem largely solved, but it wouldn't have arisen if I hadn't wanted to be picky. ❤ Do not mention it!
ps: anyway, you forgot that the maximum shortening of the quads is not trained enough in the hack squat, not even with elastic. the leg extension is still essential ;)
