I think it's great that you talk about finances... I feel like, sometimes, it's a subject every student complains about but doesn't really acknowledge. Few are really open about that, and it's a shame because it's a relief to know you're not the only one counting your spendings, and sometimes even struggling with it... Anyway, it's always very pleasant to hear about your experience at uni in general and at Kings specifically. I was wondering, did you do a "gap year recap" video ? I'm planning my gap year (between my undergraduate degree and the beggining of my masters) and I'm looking everywhere I can for ideas and insights! Thank you
Haha yes it’s quite hard to ignore finances, being a student in London and also studying a finance related degree 😉 I have really done a gap year recap video no but I’m happy to answer any questions you have! I ended up travelling a lot around India and south east Asia as well as Europe. I also did more things with my UA-cam, like starting a merchandise company etc I was looking into doing some teaching courses too and did train to climb to base camp of Everest before that horrible accident... I would definitely recommend a gap year to anyone as it gives you time to unwind and be more creative and explore other areas! I hope you have a great day and well done on completing your undergraduate degree!!! 🎉🌟

It’s definitely manageable! Maths only takes up a quarter of the modules and they always put on extra classes to make sure everyone was up to the same speed which was really helpful! Good luck with your course and have a great day!
I’m starting a biochem degree at KCL in September and I’m quite anxious about the socialising part. I love being around people but I’m stressed that I won’t know anybody to get to freshers event with :( do you just go by yourself and get to know people there? I don’t feel like I could go clubbing on my own... how do people usually do this? Even though my English is not a problem making friends can be quite intimidating as a foreigner😪 At least I’ll be living in a Kings accommodation I assume it won’t be too hard to meet people there...
I'm going into my second year of uni and I found that everyone is in the same position and everybody's open to talking and making new friends so don't worry about it too much, just be open to conversations.
No kings accommodation is very sociable and you’ll certainly meet people during the first couple of minutes of moving in! Everyone moves in on the same day pretty much and everyone is buzzing around and constantly introducing themselves. I went clubbing with my neighbours and then later on in the year I went with my choir society friends more! You’ll definitely be alright and kings has special days for study abroad and foreign students to make you feel super welcomed which is a great way to meet friends 💜 I hope you have a great day and good luck come September!
Excellent video Mei! Your videos are really useful for those aspiring to get to university. Which IT do you use? Do you use Apple laptops or just normal PCs? Which laptop and smartphone do you use and why? What is most popular at Kings amongst students? I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and a Toshiba laptop from 2011. Do you think these would be good enough for a first year at university? Many thanks
I’ve got all my tech things in the description but I use an apple MacBook Pro 13 inch - which is about 5 years old - and I did have an Android one plus x but got my first (second hand) iPhone this year. However, I wouldn’t say tech is that important. You can make notes on any laptop or even on paper as they have big slides and my lecturers don’t go too fast either! That would definitely be good enough for uni 💕 I’m glad I could help though and best wishes!
I’m doing Law at uni. I didn’t do Law for a level and didn’t find it difficult to “adjust” at all; as long as you’re prepared to learn, you’ll be fine. Hope this helps!
Rebecca summer it up perfectly! I’ve never studied business before and my sister had never done law before either when she started uni! It’s often new for a lot of people so you won’t be alone 🌟
Hey Mei Ying! I've been watching your videos for a while and I start first year this September. Got some questions about freshers - there are events for week 1 (freshers week itself) then weeks 2 and 3 as you maybe remember, I'm wondering which events to buy tickets for? Are there any specifically you'd recommend? I do drink, but not a lot, but I love dancing and going out :) and do people go for those in week 3? Or is it mainly just week 1 and 2? Thank you x
I have been really trying to get a feel for English universities, since I'm an American aiming for a University there, thanks for this video. Two questions do you have any advice for the application process and you mentioned you don't drink so did people try to pressure you into doing it. I can't drink because of medication and i am worried people will see it as a challenge to get me to drink
U mentioned that u dont drink neither do I. But I was slightly concerned that it might limit the things I can do or my experience might not b as enjoyable. Any thought on that
Love your videos ❤️ Do you have any club recommendations for students in London? I’m starting uni this year but have heard London clubs are crazy expensive!
Thank you Kate! My favourite club is heaven as it is actually free if you do guest list and arrive before midnight! It doesn’t have to be expensive at all 💜 often freshers club nights are a LOT more than usual so don’t worry!
This was such a great video! I also noticed you said you took a gap year, so was it weird being in a class with people mostly younger than you? I'm planning on changing unis but I don't know whether to just go ahead with second year, or if I should start from first :')
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it and tbh pretty much all my friends here took gap years too!! People come from all different countries and so some are under 18, a few are over 25 ☺️ I hope that helps!!
What would you be able to do at freshers week if you will be 17 for the most part of your first year? Would you still be able to buy a club wrist band?
That’s a good question. I’m not entirely sure but most club nights are 18+ and especially in London, where the security is pretty tight, as that is our legal drinking age here 🍺🍸
Do you know how the English department is at King’s? I have an admit for studying next year, but I am skeptical in terms of the insane amount of tuition fees for an international student. Also, I was checking out residences and I found that I can afford only one or two of the halls, and some of the intercollegiate halls work out as well. Do you think it’s worth the money? Thanks in advance :)
I don’t know much about the English department but I have one or two friends who study English and they enjoy it! London in general is incredibly expensive but any international student I’ve met has said they’re glad to come - compared to a lot of American colleges it’s also a lot cheaper but I stayed in intercollegiate halls first year too as they were the cheapest and so so nice! You’re catered there as well so have no food costs whatsoever, as they will have seconds for the times of the days that they don’t serve food. Stamford Street is one of cheapest and it’s amazing location means that the rooms themselves aren’t the best -very small and there’s no catering. Of course, everyone has their own measurements of good value but every international student I’ve spoken to has said they love London and studying in kings! I hope that helps ☺️
I personally really kings , it seems like a very nice place to study nursing , however because I live in quite a small and quiet town everyone here seems to be put off by the idea of me wanting to study in London to the point where it is beginning to scare me too and now im contemplating it .
Just remember it’s your future, but I’m sure whatever you choose, it will be the right thing! I have faith in you and as long as you do things to make your future self happy then that’s all that matters 💜 sending you big hugs! xx
Do you think that it is better to be studying in a campus out of London as there would be more student life or do you feel like London is a good place for uni?
You will miss out on the clubbing and drinking aspect if you’re under 18 but there’s so much more to do than that. Kings has great opportunities for its students that are worth taking and exploring! I would say go for it 💜
16&17 is way way too young to be going to uni my opinion. I feel like you need time to grow in to yourself before taking such a massive leap in to university
I just got into king’s after being waitlisted. I got into politics but I am still hesitating with another degree from another french uni (I’m from France 🙃). Is king’s really worth it (societies, social life, quality of the classes ...)
Don't do it! Take it from someone who tried for 2 years, find people who enjoy doing what you do or you'll be stuck looking after drunk friends the whole year, become resentful and not enjoy yourself. My advice; save yourself the trouble
I wouldn’t necessarily agree with Thara but I can understand sometimes, very rarely, you might have to look after your friends but even if I did drink I would still look after them anyway if they needed my help. I tend to load up on sugar- might have a nice Fanta during the drinking games and if you find a club with good music then you can just dance away. I love it cause you can go all out with the moves and nobody really notices plus it’s a lot cheaper haha 🌟 I’m easily affected by sugar or even caffeine so I’ve had a latte before on a friend’s birthday to keep me up and pumped! Also, your friends should still be considerate of your choice not to drink ofc so without pressure or any awkwardness it’s really great! It is good to get a balance though of people who like going out and also who enjoy things like going for a meal or coffee instead! 💜
I love going to clubs and I don't drink. I mean usually I have one friend who doesn't drink and we just have fun with the people who are drunk. I. E. Once me and my friend convinced everyone drunk at a club that pharell had died. The way to have fun is just pick something to do and distract yourself, also remember everything you do, noone will remember the next day XD
Just to add, if you're having to distract yourself then you probably shouldn't be in the club. Drinking is such a huge part of university culture. Clubbing at university is a special type of normalised peer pressure
There is definitely an expectation to go out and drink in order to socialise at uni. However if you, like me can enjoy clubbing without alcohol through being with friends and dancing and the odd fizzy drink then it’s definitely doable. It’s worth trying out different clubs to see which environment and music you like best to dance to but ofc if this is something you’ve tried and just don’t enjoy, then it’s obviously not worth forcing it. There are plenty of other ways to socialise without clubbing 🌟 just choose what feels right for you and you’ll end up surrounding yourself with friends who understand! Big hugs 💕
Hi. I am thinking of going to King's for medicine but that would require me to stay at home. I was wondering if you knew anyone on your course who stayed at home and if that would make it harder to make friends or socialise
Hello, I just finished my 2nd yr biochem at kings. Personally I stayed at accommodations but don’t think there’d be much difference if you’re to commute from home. I’d say it will depend on how active you’ll be though. Because I’ve met most of my friends through lectures, practicals, “studying” at library etc lol. also joining societies/clubs will give you a lot of opportunities to make friends, especially if you do sports and join a gkt team.. BLEEDRED
any tips if you have social anxiety and find it really difficult to put yourself out there? I'm going to uni in september and although i'm excited, clubbing/big social events aren't really my thing so I'm just a bit nervous of whether i'll be able to make friends ahaha
First off good luck for starting uni in September but I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time! 🌟 there are endless opportunities to meet people not in big social events, for example if you’re staying in university accommodation you’ll most likely have house mates that you’ll bump into one at a time in your kitchen/ social space. You can do little dinner meals together or even do some baking before you go up so you can offer your new flat mates some snacks - that’s a nice way of starting a conversation! Making friends with your housemates is one of the most comforting things you can do as pretty much no matter what, you’ll be returning home to these people every night. Similarly the same thing will happen on your course, where in some introductionary lectures you might ask to sit next to someone and then you can just get to know them 💕 friends is often the biggest worry but everyone is in the same boat at the end of the day and they want to meet new friends - to be honest, after a week of saying where your from, what you study and introducing yourself it can actually be a little boring but so many unis have really great events to just pop along to as they want happy students in the end! Clubbing certainly isn’t the only way to meet people so really don’t worry ☀️ I hope that helped and if you need any more tips just let me know! Have a great day 🌿
@@meiyingchow ah thank you so so much for your response!! Really appreciate your help and advice with this and you've definitely made me feel better about settling in the next few months!

hi! i literally just got an offer for kings so i’m now watching this video for the like third time haha. do you think it’s realistic for a student to be driving in london? i’m too emotionally attached to my car and don’t want to sell him when i go to uni lol (stupid i know)
No way!! That’s amazing - 🎉 congratulations!!! I don’t know many students that drive into uni in London - pretty much all tube in (although no right now with rona). My friends have all kept their cars however but just at home for summer and half term/ reading weeks!
I start at kcl in 2 weeks for geography and this pops up in my feed! Do you think freshers is that important? I dont drink and clubbing doesnt really interest me. Im also going to be commuting.
Hey! its great to see ur video, but Im currently having trouble with socializing and making friends! I just don't know how to start and how to keep that relationship over friends, and apparently I do feel as if I am quite the quiet type of girl that don't attract people coming to me. btw Im a first year uni student at UK. it would be great if you could give some advice or possible a video helping introverts sociable! thanks!

I’m actually applying for philosophy this year for 2021 entry and I’m considering Kings...hence why I’m here! I’d love to pick your brain about your application, PS mainly, that you think was instrumental in you getting an offer - if that’s okay with you obviously. So sorry if this is annoying, it’s just so rare to find anyone who’s applied for philosophy😅
I’m a French student planning to do a year abroad next year and I really wanted to go to London or the UK but now with this whole Brexit thing I’m thinking it’s going to be even more expensive than usual 😭
Haha yes brexit certainly hasn’t made things any clearer recently! Still, studying abroad is definitely a great opportunity and the UK would be lucky to have you 💕
Mei-Ying Chow I have a question can you go to university if you don’t have three ucas pint like for example can you go to uni if you have only DD instead of triple DDD like this ? Or you need two full years in BTEC
How many clubs/sports would you recommend to join as an international student with no friends nor any family close? A healthy social life is very important for me, but because I want to apply, if possible, to Oxford for my PhD I cannot afford to slack off with school. The clubs/societies I'd join are: Cheerleading, Yoga, Creative Writing, Harry Potter and Classics + perhaps a Book Club - would that be too much, according to you? :)

I just really want a 1st.😂 And yaaas, hopefully see you around!😁
Hey! Thanks for the video. I’m going to kings in September but I have no idea what to expect. Especially in the friend department 😭
Ahh good luck for September! I’m sure you’ll have a great time 💜 I had very low expectations but King’s surpassed it in all areas! I’m glad my video could help ☀️
Ooooh I’m going kings this September too!
Humaira Anjum omg !! What course? :0
Khai Zen Yau I’m
Going to
Be studying biomedical science! Wbu??
Humaira Anjum I’m studying law!! see u there maybe 😋
I’m going on to economics this year as undergrad but I’m worried about the maths will it be too difficult to overcome or is it manageable?
It’s definitely manageable! Maths only takes up a quarter of the modules and they always put on extra classes to make sure everyone was up to the same speed which was really helpful! Good luck with your course and have a great day!
Omg! Finally someone with the same struggles. I am starting Political Economy in September and I was worried too!
I'm going into my second year of uni and I found that everyone is in the same position and everybody's open to talking and making new friends so don't worry about it too much, just be open to conversations.
camillebht Hi you!! I'm starting a chem degree at KCL and I'm a foreigner too. I think we're going to be alright x
Thanks for the informative video but I was wondering whether you could disclose why KCL stood out to you over the other unis you applied to? Cheers :)
I love You Soo much!Your Tips Really Help Me!
Ahh I love you too and I’m so glad I could help 💕 have a lovely day Emily!
Just a question, I’m going to study economics in uni but I didn’t have it as an a level subject. Do you think I’ll be able to adjust?
I’m doing Law at uni. I didn’t do Law for a level and didn’t find it difficult to “adjust” at all; as long as you’re prepared to learn, you’ll be fine. Hope this helps!
Rebecca summer it up perfectly! I’ve never studied business before and my sister had never done law before either when she started uni! It’s often new for a lot of people so you won’t be alone 🌟
Rebecca Bailey thank you ❤️
This was such a useful video! What is the intercollegiate hall you're staying at? Are there any you'd recommend?
Yess!! I loved college hall and my friend at Connaught hall had a great group of friends! They’re tighter and smaller communities 💛✨
Is it obligatory to move out of uni's accommodation in the 2nd and 3rd year at kcl?
Thank you for this! Can you make a video on taking a spontaneous gap year? Thinking about calling on results day and asking for one ...
i took a gap year, it makes no difference at all! i would DEFINITELY recommend it
Hey Mei Ying!
Any thought on that
Me too , so far at alevels it hasn’t massively affected me , but I am quite worried for next year at Uni .
@@daniella3116 exactly all these freshers events seen alcohol heavy
@@alimaxwell4560 but impure they will be a couple of people who don’y drink and it won’t be that bad.
@@meiyingchow It does, thank you so much!
I’m so glad!! You’re more than welcome 🥰❤️ happy weekend!!
Mei-Ying Chow thank a lot :)
I have faith in you and as long as you do things to make your future self happy then that’s all that matters 💜 sending you big hugs! xx
@@meiyingchow AWWW thank you sm , hopefully I will get in.
@@meiyingchow do you have faith in me too ?
Do you think that it is better to be studying in a campus out of London as there would be more student life or do you feel like London is a good place for uni?
I will be starting law at Kings this Sept!! So nervous !!
Good luck! My sister did the same degree and I have full faith you’ll do amazing too 💕
@@meiyingchow thank you so much!! :)
Saffana Siddiqui oh wow me too!!
Would I be missing out on a lot if I go to my first year at Kings as an underage student ?
You will miss out on the clubbing and drinking aspect if you’re under 18 but there’s so much more to do than that. Kings has great opportunities for its students that are worth taking and exploring! I would say go for it 💜
Celine Savaricas same here :) I will be underage for two years
16&17 is way way too young to be going to uni my opinion.
How was it
Any tips on going to clubs without drinking with friends who drinks???
It’s my pleasure! Well done again for your offer and have a lovely summer ☀️🎉
Hey, I was just wondering, what are the business students like? My current conception is that they're really full of themselves
Hey! I feel like you get people like that wherever you go but I wouldn’t say my course friends are like that at all. As long as you give out good energy, you will attract the right people back ✨
Hello!! Thank you for this very useful video!! I was only wondering one thing : would you happen to know if we are allowed to welcome someone who doesn't study at King's in our accommodation (boyfriend)?? Thanks for your answer ;)
I wanted to do law at kings and was wondering if u could make a video with ur sister who did law and answering some of our questions on live chat???
hi! i literally just got an offer for kings so i’m now watching this video for the like third time haha. do you think it’s realistic for a student to be driving in london? i’m too emotionally attached to my car and don’t want to sell him when i go to uni lol (stupid i know)
No way!! That’s amazing - 🎉 congratulations!!! I don’t know many students that drive into uni in London - pretty much all tube in (although no right now with rona). My friends have all kept their cars however but just at home for summer and half term/ reading weeks!
I also got an offer a few days ago. I have such a hard time deciding between King's and Durham though
The way ur talking was awesome
I start at kcl in 2 weeks for geography and this pops up in my feed! Do you think freshers is that important? I dont drink and clubbing doesnt really interest me. Im also going to be commuting.
Hey! its great to see ur video, but Im currently having trouble with socializing and making friends! I just don't know how to start and how to keep that relationship over friends, and apparently I do feel as if I am quite the quiet type of girl that don't attract people coming to me. btw Im a first year uni student at UK. it would be great if you could give some advice or possible a video helping introverts sociable! thanks!
How can I construct my personal statement for the same course?
I will be dropping a video next month writing a personal statement and CV for interviews & internships/ spring week!
@@meiyingchow eagerly waiting...have been following you in ig
Sooo useful :)
I love your British accent!
hey! I'm going to king's from september but living at home and as a muslim I won't be clubbing or drinking. but I'm very eager to make a lot of friends and have a social life! Do you have any advice for me in making friends as I won't be meeting people through living or clubbing with them :/
hey! Im going to study philosophy and I really will be on a budget. Do you have to pay to attend the welcome events? and how much? thanks x
Hi dear..do u just know any stdnt doing 'international relations nd politics'...plz suggest them to videos nd share their experience..
Is it easy to get into kcl for undergraduate ??
I’m a French student planning to do a year abroad next year and I really wanted to go to London or the UK but now with this whole Brexit thing I’m thinking it’s going to be even more expensive than usual 😭
Haha yes brexit certainly hasn’t made things any clearer recently! Still, studying abroad is definitely a great opportunity and the UK would be lucky to have you 💕
Mei-Ying Chow I have a question can you go to university if you don’t have three ucas pint like for example can you go to uni if you have only DD instead of triple DDD like this ? Or you need two full years in BTEC
@@howtodrawwithmiketv782 that's not really a question for her, you'd be better off asking an admissions officer.
do you know any students majoring in neuroscience?
Don't have the pencil emoji! :_(
Haha that’s alright! 12 sneaky chow points anyway just for reading that far into the description 👌🏼
Aaaaaaa a few weeks later I'll become a student of King's College! So nervous!!
That’s so exciting!!! Good luck for freshers and your first year 🥰❤️ well done for getting your place too - bravo!!
