I've offroaded my 91 xj pretty hard and been through some had places and my stock steering has held up surprisingly. Definitely going to do the ZJ upgrade for more beef though.
Thank you for the great video. I need to do this because the heavy duty crossover system won't fit with factory XJ 15 or 16 inch wheels. And thank you sooo much for the part numbers.
I have not done anything too extreme, but so far no bending. But what came off was factory original so it was real sloppy, the ZJ upgrade made the front end nice and tight again.
TheLateModelTech I'm going to get this ordered and give it a try. time for new steering parts. I have a 3" Zone lift and a 99 XJ with stock steering. it's sloppy.
You'll need one of each of the parts you have listed.. but make sure you order DS1312. That is the actual tie rod itself, which has a fixed tie rod end already installed. That end goes to the drag link and the other end gets the adjusting sleeve and the other (separate) tie rod end.
@@Donnythelatemodeltech Fram has been shown to be garbage man, run what you want, but I've been running purolator filters since I bought mine. You can actually use the filter for a 5.0 ford motor (forget the PN) to give yourself almost an quart extra oil capacity as well. Myself, I run rotella diesel oil and the larger capacity filter and I've noticed the rattly prone 4.0 seems quieter.
On the tie rod tool what size wrench did you use? I have all metric tools so want to make sure I get some sae stuff. Specifically when you popped the joints at the wheel
Hey mate, g'day from Australia!! Great tutorial, I think after w watching you do this, I'm going to so the same on my 97 TJ, as they are known week points with the hollow factory crap. Do i usr zj grand cherokee ball joints too ? Have u thought about doing the zj big brake upgrade aswell ? Keep up the great content mate👌
First, thanks for the on point steering upgrade video tutorial. Questions 1. All part numbers you listed would be 93-98 ZJ steering parts correct? So, these are the V8 5.2L part numbers that would also work on a 1995 Jeep ZJ 4.0L as a upgrade swap as well, correct? Btw, Thx again for listing these part #s and showing this repair visually. 2. Was looking for the do it at home alignment video you mentioned but don't see it in your playlist, did you ever get around to making it?
Hey bud, trying to do this upgrade and had a question. Should I buy a zj steering stabilizer or xj? And how is the upgrade holding up now??? Thanks man..
Hugo Vagas my Cherokee is a 2001 , the links in the Description Box will give you all the information the need to buy the correct hd front end parts, thanks for watching!
This is exactly what I plan on doing next on the Goat. Bent my flimsy oem tie rod out rock crawling couple weeks ago.

jebusm86 do you know of torque would matter for something like this
Thank you for your time and especially the part numbers. Chris
Thank you no problem.

Nice video , I just did the exact upgrade on my 93 XJ a few weeks ago, (followed by a DIY alignment). Totally pleased with the results.
TheSoftgoat how's it working for You? I haven't had a chance to test it's strength yet. Oh, and thanks for watching!

TheSoftgoat I'm hoping for the same result. thanks for the reply to this video. and thanks for the video too

Squat kit.
Excellent
Wont we need 2 ea.of these ?

Then connect to the driver's side knuckle..
When you tighten the ball joint when do you know when it's tight enough. Or over tighten
What tie rod/ball joint remover is that? I bought the one stated on the description but it doesn’t fit mine is part #25297
Would replacing all this help with driver side wobble? It's not my hub.
Hi and thanks for this video. Did you have to remove the sway bar for this job? I couldn't see it in the video, but it was definitely disconnected.
Noticed you changed the links to purchase these parts. Do i still need to buy X2 of certain things?
What year is that jeep xj and what year zj parts did you use
You must not care about that 4.0L.You are running a Fram oil filter.
Dan Hambrick I was looking through the comments to see if I was the only one who noticed
Thought the same thing
First I saw the light and was like "thats a cool idea for when I'm wrenching" THEN I saw the filter. Glad I'm not the only one that saw that
I guess I need to watch that "Fram" video. Lol.

So two adjusting sleeves?
according to the part numbers theres only 3 tie rods? is that correct
Yes. The 2 tie rods have the ends incorporated into them. Then the one to the driver knuckle. he did not replace the one to the pitman arm.
Great Video any updates on how it’s holding up? Thanks
No issues
The links are just for linkage correct ? Not the actually drag bar or tie Rod? Did you pick those up from a junkyard
Does this set-up works with stock 15" rims?
oh yea.
Yes. Exactly why I am doing it. The heavy duty "crossover" systems require 17 inch wheels. I know. I tried.
How important are the clips that you put the bolts?
Very
Thank you for this. Do you think the drag link is worth replacing?
If your going to do any 4 wheeling, do it.
@@Donnythelatemodeltech what was the drag link you got?

No complaints. I re used my xj stabilizer.
You do not need to swap the drag link out. Just the tie rod.
Huge favor . Part number . S
In the description
I have 2001 xj. Would I ask for 98 grand cherokee tie rod? Think it would fit mine

93 to 98 Zj limited v8
So on Amazon it says this part does not fit on my 2005 Tj 4.0 ?
Because its made for a grand cherokee.
I noticed you installed a new drag link in this video as well. Was that a new XJ drag link or a ZJ drag link? Thanks for the video.
Zj draglink
Which made/model puller was that please?
Everthing you need is in the description box below the video. Here is the link for the puller. Thanks amzn.to/2FmT4Ha
Dude this is perfect! Thank you!
Thank you.
How's it been with this steering upgrade?
No problems. A lot more confident when wheeling in the spot I bent the old stuff.
When I went to your amazon links it told me the parts won’t fit my 98 XJ Is that horse doo doo
The parts are for a zj....Amazon doesn't know they can fit on a xj.
I like the music
