- In this video I test out Mayco's Sand and Sea glaze. Result photos along with the glazing process. New glaze combo ideas and tests. My pieces were bisque fired to cone 04 and then glaze fired to cone 6.
Sand and sea is one of my favorite glazes at the moment. Love how 3 coats looks on Standard 112 clay.
It seems like the coverage with three coats is really perfect! I wish I had some of that clay to try.
Hey Sarah. I have Sand and Sea and like the subtleness of the colour for certain things. The glaze in Canadian is about $20 which makes it economical. My last Amaco was $33 and my last Coyote was $48. Ya! Prices are climbing. Thanks for the review. Fuzzy Peach and Sand and Sea us my fave from your review
Wow, prices are so high there. You should mix some more of your own! I'm going to have to do more mixed glaze reviews if prices keep climbing like they are. I think at $48 I would have to develop my own.
@threelittlepotters RIGHT?! I know you have shared before but it will be impossible for me to find. I think you had a three ingredient glaze that you could change the colour with mason stain? It could have been Lisa.
It seems to do everything. High fires to 10 and beautiful in reduction also.
Oh, that's interesting. Maybe someday I will have the ability to try a reduction firing. Thanks for letting me know!
Sand & Sea with Winterwood is another good combination
ohh, I'll have to try it!
Thanks for the review I think mayco is the 2nd cheapest commercial glaze after Spectrum here 18/24 is average . I didn't see sand and sea at the supplier I use
I buy almost all my glazes online here from dickblick.com I have no idea what to advise all my Canadian potter friends. Thanks again for watching!
@@corryg6403 Agreed. Spectrum then Mayco then Amaco / Coyote.
I poured sand and sea on a textured piece fired at my community studio. It is one of my favorite pieces, thanks for the video Sarah. Love seeing your results. Kathy
Seems like many of Blicks glazes have lowered in price, at least that is how I justify my repeated orders. Lol.
