Nice review, but why do people insist on battening with what is really a slicing tool. If you want to split logs use an axe! (Agree with David Cooper below).
Why, on so many reviews, do I see the very first thing folk do is to hammer the crap out of a perfectly good knife. Knives are cutting tools, especially the Harding. It has a stick tang and is not suitable for this, what I consder to be, abuse. I've even see one idiot batonning with a Swiss Army Knife and another fool who batonned with a new Helle Viking knife and broke the blade off at the tang. Why? If you are travelling in the wilderness and you need to process fire wood take an axe or a small hatchet. Rant over (You did ask for comments).
David Cooper I think I’ve seen the same video with the Swiss Army knife. I was confused too. Battening with a folding knife is already not recommended, battening with a slip-joint folder is even worse. I own the Helle Harding, and I think that it could take some light battening, but it still wouldn’t be my tool of choice.
Hi, a nice review, I only have the one Helle knife at this time and it too is the Harding,My own personal use for it is hunting small game, so it is my skinning, butchering knife. It can tackle larger joints of meat but in most cases the length of cutting edge makes deep cuts a little messy. The handle of this knife is for me too nice to risk smacking it with a club of wood, that’s where my Esse Lazer Strike comes in,Bottom line is we can all enjoy this knife for different field crafts.

There is a place for batonning imo, but definitely not with (nice) stick tang knives like this.
