Nice choice of subject, the Unimog deserves more attention as it is really an incredible vehicle and gives us modellers so many ways to build and depict it in various scenarios. Since i have built various models set in and around former Rhodesia over the past years and doing a considerable amount of reading and research on the topic as a whole on the side, i´d like to point out that your notion of that conflict is a bit off. I suggest to have a peek at the lovely booklet "Bush War Rhodesia" by Peter Baxter from the "Africa@War" Series. It is a handy introduction and the photos in there can be inspirational for any scalemodeller, who is curious about the topic. It might lead to more Rhodesian army models on your channel, at least i hope that! Cheers.
I'll check our your recommendations, thank you. I admit, that my history lesson very well be a "bit off". Very quick and basic research on my part. Thanks again for the book referral.
The kit is gorgeous! I drove the successor model in the Bundeswehr. That was always a lot of fun, especially in rough terrain! Very cool idea for a diorama! I wish you a lot of fun with your further work! See you soon, John
Excellent work as always Rick. This Unimog is a welcome subject on the market indeed...many people were excited when AK announced this. I am looking forward to seeing how you continue with the dusty weathering effects.
Hi Evan. Thank you. Yep, it's a really nice kit and a very cool subject. I wish I had a final vision in mind for all of this...but hey, this isn't the first time that I begin something without knowing where I'm going!!! Thanks for checking in.
Nice build! However, I don't know if you realized, but the photo at 06:50 shows a Portuguese Army vehicle in one of the three African theatres of war where Portugal fought between 1961 and 1974 (Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique).
Alexandre, yes, I have been made aware of the Portuguese as shown in the photo. This is a subject that I am not familiar, and so it's nice that people like yourself bring things to my attention.
Great series of videos Rick. Quick question, what ratio did you mix the 3 colours for the base coat on the Unimog ? I’m looking to build the new Airfix Ferret in Rhodesian colours.
Looks like the version you have chosen with the yellow and red chevron (front and back) has been modelled around the Rhodesian Armoured Corps, nicknamed the "Black Devils"
I like the kit and the Rhodesian theme. Just started to build my own one. But the kit represents the 404 version of the Unimog. The Rhodesian army uses the 406 version. Quite different. So you have 2 options: You go through an pretty extensive conversion of the kit. Or you go the easy way and assume it's a booty truck from a Rhodesian raid in Mozambique. The FRELIMO in Mozambique pressed ex Portugese army trucks of this type into their service. It's not impossible that one of them ended up in Rhodesian service. 😉
No, the pressure from the compressor is at about 22-25 psi (I really don't pay much attention), and then it's all about the feel of the paint as it shoots from the brush. I don't have any presets, or paint thinning ratios, or anything like that. I guess that I've been doing this for long enough that I can go by look and feel.
The Unimog is so ugly it's kind of cute. I might just have to pick up this kit. Did you notice the 3D frame around the MG would make a table with the legs cut down for a diorama?

Hi, John. It is such a great subject - very versatile. Take care.
Years ago I built one of them Alouette choppers in Rhodesian camo and markings. Looking forward to seeing your skills on that Unimog!
thanks, Joe. I hope that I can pull off something presentable.
@@RickLawlerPropaganda Not to worry, we have confidence in you!😉
Can't wait to see the figures for this one. Great work so far!
Yes, the figures!! I'll see what I can do with those. I have a Bravo 6 and a TaNK to add to the scene.
I love those chrome pens too. Great for mirrors.
Yep, pretty handy.
I'm going to have to get one for sure
Got this one and it looks a lovely kit , I wasn’t sure on what scheme to do it in but now I know 😊
It is a very nice kit, you'll enjoy it I'm sure. Thanks for watching.

Hello from Rome, Italy. Looking forward to seeing this video and Building this kit
Grazie
Hi rick another great video, and voice over, another great diorama, coming soon, keep up the fantastic
Work
Thank you, Martin. It's nice that you mention the voice...I struggle with that!!!! I'm glad that it comes off ok.
Greetings Rick, you have done a superb so thus far, looking forward to the next update, very best regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
Howdy, Les. Thanks a bunch, I very much appreciate the support from Down Under.
Nice history lesson! Looking forward to the final product on this one
At this moment I have NO idea what this will turn out to be....I guess we'll find out together.
nice, did the same thing a couple of months ago with the ICM kit
I would enjoy seeing your efforts. Feel free to send a photo or link.
Thanks Rick. Looks great so far.
thanks, Dennis.

Alexandre, yes, I have been made aware of the Portuguese as shown in the photo. This is a subject that I am not familiar, and so it's nice that people like yourself bring things to my attention.
Can't wait Rick! That's gonna be interesting!
Hopefully not a let down...!

I really couldn't tell you...I just do things by eye. Sorry.
No problem, appreciate the reply. Currently busy experimenting!

It’s great to see different models than the same old tanks!!
thank you. I like finding subjects that are off the beaten path.

Yea, things like that where I'm not an expert...sometimes close is good enough. Thanks for the info.
Very interesting subject. Love the camo 👌🏻
Thanks, Russ.
Very nice! Add Bravo 6 figgures)
I have a Bravo 6 that I'm working on now!! Thanks for watching.
Looking forward to the figures.
Just getting a start on them now....thanks for watching.
Cool I plan on building this kit at some point….I used to own a 78 406 that I rebuilt. If you have and unimog questions feel free to ask
Great, thanks.
Looking at your “trigger finger” working the airbrush have you preset the paint flow with the air pressure…??
No, the pressure from the compressor is at about 22-25 psi (I really don't pay much attention), and then it's all about the feel of the paint as it shoots from the brush. So, is this ICM kit with new decals and some additional stuff?
I imagine that is the case. The sprues do have the ICM logo on them, the instructions and added parts are AK
@@RickLawlerPropaganda Got it
first time I heard about those chrome pens...)
They are great. This particular set from AK has chrome, bronze, copper & old bronze colors.
@@RickLawlerPropaganda I gotta get one of those pens and also that unimog...:)
Icm kit? Great upgrades from AK with it though I think I'll grab the middle east one that looks nice
Yes, the sprues are marked with ICM along with upgrades and instructions from AK
Second picture is Portuguese Army.
Thanks for the clarifications, I'm new to this era and theater.
Ak liquid markers are they the same as molotow?
I'm not familiar with Molotow, so I can't make a comparison.
The Unimog is so ugly it's kind of cute. I might just have to pick up this kit. Did you notice the 3D frame around the MG would make a table with the legs cut down for a diorama?
Hi John. Agreed...ugly=iconic.
And last picture is Portuguese paratroopers.
See my prior response....thanks again.

thanks!
It was BS Middlestone used for baby dipper lol
Good to know. I hopefully get close when finished with the weathering
Oh god rhodesia, Strap in boys this could get hella jingoistic
Hopefully it comes off ok.

Nice kit.. it would be nice to see some other Rhodesian MAP vehicles in 1/35 like the crocodile and MAP 4.5 and 7.5
