just played tonight and stayed out of the environmental free power and went for coal and oil mix plants trying to block out red down in coln. However I did not expand houses fast enough to keep up, lost momentum even though I was always 1 or 2 away from other players mid game. they played aggressive and all got into bidding wars when I stayed out. I always felt two turns away from capitalizing if I just could get my income to pay for one nuclear power plant mid to late game and then expand into the west. I stayed to conservative for my game group tonight. Ideas or tips on board control and what could have been problematic? My first plant was 2 mix resources to power 1 and was out bidder by 4 for a plant that was 3 for 2 power. I thought I played it well but after I put out two more buildings I was already stagnating when red expanded quickly from coln and had plants and resources in coal to power 4. red didn't win but pushed others to be more aggressive.
also the winner was north west the whole game and no one went there so he could just sytematically expand while he used oil environment and a nuclear plant. one by 10 bucks to blue. great unconventional players and so many games. makes it difficult for a newb like me
