Awesome video guys that was really cool finding that old newspaper in the stash spot
Glad you enjoyed it
My family speaks Mandarin
The association should retrieve those newspapers and frame them. They could mount them on the wall next to the stairwell along with a framed print-out that explains their significance in English and/or Cantonese.
“We sniped some dragons” that’s one of the most GANGSTA shit I’ve heard in my entire life.
sniping dragons by day and eating ghost babies at night.
Lol word
Thank you Mike, Bighead, J for taking us inside the Tung On Association! I have always wanted to know what they looks like. And thank you all for taking the time to explain every compartment and the exact spots of the killings of Norman and Mike. Being a huge Chinese American history buff, this is all a part of real and important Chinese American history and culture. I appreciate you all so much!
I'm 46 , and I still remember back in the 80s when my uncle was involved back in Chinatown. He was BTK though . He was locked up for 28 yrs
感謝 Mike-Sir ,大頭哥,J哥哥!
帶我們參觀傳說中的東安公所...ths!
估唔到普通後樓梯的幾個扶手是武器庫!
Thank you all for taking the time in sharing!
This is fascinating. Thanks for showing all of this
Nice field trip for us who are not familiar with NY👍🏻👏🏻
great content from the heyday of Chinatown Gangs , use to run those streets and roofs back in the day. Lots of hidden spots , great that you are showing some of them. Keep in the great work
Are there still chinatown gangs now in 2023 or no
amazing channel. vital city history
I just finished watching the video. Great job very interesting. I watched it non stop!
Good thing y’all didn’t open up the rest of those stair posts 😂. Jimmy got good sense stopping y’all
You abk
This association building looks really cool hopefully the other ones will let you in to film as well. Also nice portrait of George Washington and Dr Sun Yat Sen in the doorframe.
Dr. Sun's portrait is very popular inside many U.S. tongs.
@@mdmoz1777 he was a great man so it’s understandable
Jay trying to find a piece he left in the stairs beams back in the day. Lol 😂
Continue to keep these inside editions going!💜
my bosses own that building 11e brodway where the movie theater was @ that was my first job in chinatown.
Keep em coming we love this
Great memories of yesteryears from you Guys. Wonderful stories told. Cheers from Singapore 👍
I remember every time I would walk down Division St we would have to duck to avoid getting shot. After that started walking the longer way home via East Broadway. Those were the days.
J with the old school member only jacket - NYC baby!
This is as real as store telling gets ..
It’s kind of a good thing you guys didn’t find anything in the stairwell. Good save Jimmy.
Tokyo Vice
Book by Jake Adelstein
This was also made into a series.
Have you seen the series that Bruce Lee & his writings were made into a show on HBO called Warrior.?
Not yet. Haven’t had the time. I’ll try to get to it.
J. You made me smile bro..
Hey brother. Same here….
I think I went to school with J’s lil bro Michael in PS2. Can someone pls confirm if his lil bro is indeed him. How are they all doing now? Keep up the good stories !
Michael What about the mj parlor on Catherine street in the basement that was run by the father of one of your colleague…
Why didn’t you guys show 7 East broadway it was a massage parlor on second floor, gambling hall on third floor and apartment hangout on 3 floor
Going to get a tour inside TO association by Dai Tao gor? 😮
I never trusted the Italians but the Chinese were always on point... smart and very wise business men
We’ve had dealings with some really stand up Italians. One guy was a Godfather to a Dai Lo and another was a mentor to me.
🙌, i was just out that way this past weekend. Would love to have a conversation over some food, anywhere of your choice. Thank you
I do not recognize East Broadway anymore. It was quite different in my day.
Is that Confucius Plaza in the background?
crazu super respect thisssssss thnks mike
Great video showing how it was and before it was highrises. I'm from Malaysia and our Chinatown used to have Kapitan Cina, a mayor of sorts to rule over Chinatown created by the government.
1) Were there somewhat a same Kapitan position in America?
2) Do Chinese Gangs in America leans more with the Communist or Nationalist Sun Yat Sen?
1) No 2) Nationalist
Respect to u J .
🔥🔥🔥
i only know their was a 2 sides mirror at the basement at the O (tung ON)
Wow 32 year old newspaper!
What does J do for a living now a days? Just curious....
I think he's in the restaurant business. He briefly mentioned it during his interview with Kenny.
I wish i was born in the 1960's or 1970's to see all these actions
They still had it 90s -2000s but the TO crew had the guns upstairs where die-tow said he would sleep.
Better than Al Capone’s vault!
😂
Where did they do the ritual?
Has the Tong On Association has become something of a social club for former members of the gang to socialize and reminisce? I’m laboring under the assumption that a location so well-known among NYPD and local civilians would be unsuitable for active gangland activities, aside from some potential gambling amongst the Mahjong players.
Edit: That’s answered toward the end of the video.
Here from bighead interview
Is Tung On 東安 consider Hakka 客家 not Toisan 台山?
INTERESTING STORY........
when the Chinatown gangs were active. Were the gangs also connected to any of the kung-fu schools in Chinatown?
Time to consider bluetooth microphones for your videos ....
Cool
I hope Mike's bathtub wasn't in the kitchen. I remember when I live temporary on Mott the freaking bathtub was next to the kitchen sink.
6 Pell street my great grandmother’s apt was exactly like that. Just put a cover on the tub.
Hahgagaga my 1st apt my friends father owned the building my bathtub and hand sink was in my kitchen !!! Lol
Whats the purpose of Tung On Assoications and other associations in today's society? Like do they now act as community center /support group?
Great question to ask us on our LIVE session. We can explain it in detail
Homie lived in the penthouse, flexin :P
Gangsters praying 🤣. I wonder who they were praying to. Did they pray for more luck and more guns?
They pray to Guan Yu
Both Chinese law enforcement and triads prayed to Guan Yu. Chinese Businesses would typically as well
Probably to the Spirits of Clifford and Tiger Boy Wong.🙏
they pray for Guan Yu, in chinese culture, Guan Yu is God of war or God of Martials
@@Mewzyc no just that, all chinese people pray to Guan Yu for protection and fortune, there are temple for Guan Yu in every city and villages in china
Do bighead know someone name James Lai?
He was shot to death.
buy thr wirelss mic
Had the police ever brought dog to search for narcotics and things like that?
Mike did you check out the rear exits of which led to access to all of the other businesses on E. Bway?
Yes, it was blocked off. Maybe next time we can show the viewers different escape routes.
@@chinatowngangstories The exit led to a catwalk traversing the other adjacent buildings.
What happened to Jack after he shot 3 of his "street brothers"?😮😮
It’s already covered in our previous videos
👍👍need to look back
He killed himself.
@willw2596 do you know his reason for the killing?
So sad....
@@yucheunglam4019 Not really clear. It seemed Norman and his crew "stepped over the line" on Jack's turf. See the old interview. ua-cam.com/video/SNjwdhftupM/v-deo.html
This movie film location 血洗唐人街 New York China Town 1982
I might missed the reason why that jack guy started shooting people. Was he a rivial? Or disgruntled memeber?
Jack was part of Tong On. He never gave a clear reason but mentioned some beef with Norman. The story was told in detail the previous video. ua-cam.com/video/SNjwdhftupM/v-deo.html
It’s covered in a previous video on this channel
@@chinatowngangstories which one?
@@simonchau8675 It should be in one of the videos with “J” being interviewed.
@@chinatowngangstories thanks keep up the good work
you put this in the internet, you not afraid there will be viewers who's going to report the gambling activity? just saying
It’s considered illegal gambling when there’s an exchange of money and the house benefits from it. It’s now a place for seniors to get together and play mahjong for fun. There are many senior centers in Chinatown where the elderly get together and play mahjong without any exchange of money. It’s understandable when a Non-Asian see this, they’ll think something illegal is going on.
If there’s any illegal activity going on in a Tong association, the Feds would surely know about it way before any Karen call it in. They have many informants out there.
Be safe Mike🔫😷
Do they fight each other in side the apt ? If they see each other
