Suspect Caught in the Smoke

On February 16, 2024, Zone 6 units were notified by the Rockmart Police Department that a yellow Penske Truck was being tracked to the location of 1275 Caroline St NE at the Edgewood Retail District. Zone 6 units were advised that the truck was used in a burglary the night prior where 1,492 cartons of cigarettes were stolen. Upon arrival on scene, a Zone 6 unit observed a male wearing a pink sweatshirt and pink sweatpants standing closely to the truck. Once the male saw police , he quickly walked away from the truck. The officer on scene was able to give a description of the male and a direction of travel which led to him being detained. Officers observed several boxes from outside the truck and later retrieved a search warrant, which led to the recovery of 2,218 cartons of cigarettes with 1,492 of those being related to the burglary in Rockmart, Ga. Ski masks and a pair of bolt cutters were also recovered from the search. The keys to the truck were also found in suspects possession. The suspect was identified as Deanthony Blocker. Mr. Blocker was later charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime.
