      Wap5 has bobo wheel configuration due to which it cannot be used in ghat section and hill areas. Only in plains.

    IR needs to ramp up production of both WAP5 and WAP7. On many trains, push-pull WAP5 will be a great idea.

    To be honest rail fans ke perspective se mujhe vande bharat itni acchi nahi lagti. No doubt its a top class train but wap 7 + 24 LHB coaches are love ❤️ earlier WAP4 + 24 ICF coaches were awesome pair. Hopefully WAP7 ki shortage fulfill ho jayegi

    Wap 7 and wap 5 all were made in CLW.
    But Central govt transferred wap 7 production in Varanasi.
    Otherwise every year CLW created records by manufacturing more locomotive than previous year

    I think that IR is focusing on manufacturing more freight locomotives at the moment. That is affecting the production of WAP7 and WAP5 locomotives. Vande Bharat is being made in ICF and its production is probably not affecting WAP7 production.

    WAP-7 AND WAG-9 ARE TWINS WITH ONLY DIFFERENCE IN GEAR RATIO. THEREFORE IT IS BETTER IF WE PRODUCE MORE WAG9H WHICH COULD BE USED FOR ADDIONALLY NORMAL PASSENGER N EXPRESS TRAINS WITH 24-26 COACHES WHERE SPEED REQUIREMENT ARE NOT THERE.

    I don't understand as to how VB's production can affect the production of WAP7 locomotives? ICF is producing VB trains and BLW is producing WAP7s (CLW is only producing WAG9s as of now).

      If railways is planning to introduce trainsets for all type of train in future then they may be correct to discontinue production of locomotives. But they should consider building locomotives to cater to the other passenger trains that do not have trainsets. Plus whatever VB sets are being made, we need atleast one spare rake of same capacity.

      Thank you. I agree with you that we definitely need spares for our existing VBs as currently, we are running them aground. Furthermore, I also think that converting all trains into trainsets is not a good idea. We still need some flexibility. What we are in a dire need of is to have lots of high frequency regional rail routes where there is a lot of demand from daily commuters. Currently, they have no choice but to cram themselves in general coaches of infrequent long distance trains. That also results in long distance trains having unnecessary stops. Now these regional trains should be no frills, high capacity AC MEMUs.
      We need to ramp up production of upgraded WAP5 locomotives (around 8,500 to 9,000 HP and weighing around 95 tonnes each) and AC LHB coaches so that most trains can be fully AC (with low cost to the passengers) and have the capability to run beyond 160-180 km/h. (Having Co-Co bogie locomotives run beyond 140 km/h is just plain risky)
      WAP7s can be used for the remaining slower trains as existing non AC coaches will only be phased out in the next 20 years.

    Vande Bharat ke saath, WAG-9 ka production bhaut jada bi kar raha hai due to DFC.

    Indian railway is pura scenario ko seriously nhi le Rahi hai phela wap4 locomotive ka life span khatam huva toh railway wag5,wag7 aur wag9 locomotives par Swift huva aur ab wag5 aur wag7 dono locomotive bhi apni life span ka last stage mai ek baar yeh dono class ka locos unfit honga toh yeh problem aur zayda badegi ,tab aapko wag 12 locomotive ek express/mail trains ko haul karte huva bhi nazar aasakte hai

    I am feeling very bad for NFR who have not WAP 7 and WAP 7 zone shed system is completely unbalanced that reason trains like 20866 Puri LTT SF Express and more LHB express trains which train schedule to loco reservals in a junction railway station expect Raipur stations mostly wap7 don't couple reverse direction another offline loco or if wap 7 is available then they attached otherwise they are giving wag 9 loco example 20866 always getting wag 9 from SBP-LTT cause of VSKP WAP7 shortage that WAP 7 pulling from PURI-SBP

    Are LP and ALP’s expected to know both diesel and electric operation or they have dedicated persons to operate diesel and electric locos ?

      Some have learning of both whereas some have either ac or diesel.
      In earlier days loco pilots used to upgrade from diesel to ac so whoever knew ac definitely had diesel also.
      But now a days direct ac learning is also provided.
      Now in ac there are various types of locos (for example : normal wap/wag, wcam series , wag 12 series)
      Here, wcam and wag 12 have a little bit different technology.
      So, loco pilots who know ac cannot necessarily drive the other two.
      The above requires special learning.

    CLW is CLW,it stays at its own place.CLW should not be compared to BLW and PLW.Because CLW is the main inventor of WAG-9 and WAP-7 loco,BLW and PLW are making their replica only.
    I don't understand why CLW has paused the production of WAP-7 since 2021.

    The reason why Indian railways is focusing so much on Vande Bharat trains is to improve profitability and reduce cost.
    Vande Bharat tickets cost more. So more earning. But apart from that there are other benefits of VB. For example railways can carry passengers in both 1st and last coaches of VB which otherwise goes waste as guatd-luggage-generator car. So now revenue.
    VB trains dont require shunting loco in terminal stations thereby simplifying operation.
    My guess is IR is betting on VB trains. Other trains can go a little slow with WAG9. In the interim why waste money on WAP7

    IR is gearing for modernisation. So more VBs are likely than trains with locomotives which increases the operational costs. May be in future new upgraded versions of WAP7 will be manufactured to pull more trains. That's my view.

    WAG 9H ke ek mixed traffic version jo passenger gadi ko 130-140 speed aur maalgadi ko 100 pe bhaga sake aise locos firse chahiye. Taki us loco ko sare zone me baant diya ja sake. WAG 9 ka gear ratio 5.71 hota hai, WAP 7 ka 3.18 hota hai. Traction motor speed iska 1243 rpm hota hai. Agar naya loco ka wheel size WAG 9 aur WAP 7 ke bich laa de, aur gear ratio ko 3.18 se 5.71 ke bich la dete hai, toh i think a mixed traffic variant is possible to build.

    I think our beloved Indian Railways have made themselves confused by taking some stupid decisions.
    (1) They have stopped or rather discontinued the production of WAP 4, WAP 5 and WAP 7 way back, in fact even before they might have thought about 100 % electrification.
    (2) Railways is spoiling WAP 7 by providing it to some non SF ICF trains where it is not required actually and they are giving WAG 9 to some SF LHB trains.
    Both the above mentioned situations should be changed in reverse direction. WAG 9 should be allotted to all ICF trains and WAP 7 should be allotted to LHB trains. Because WAG 9 can't run above 100/kmph and by providing WAG 9 to LHB trains, Indian Railways is decreasing the MPS of LHB trains. While ICF trains can't run above 110/kmph anyhow. Hence, WAG 9 or in fact any other freight locomotive like WAG 5 or WAG 7 can be given to them.
    (3) Indian Railways is not in the mood to restart the production of WAP 7, WAP 5 and WAP 4 and that is visible. Instead, they are planning to replace all the Rajdhani Express with Sleeper VB Express so that, they will not have to provide WAP 7 to Rajdhani category at least.
    But even in this concept they are confused because on the other hand, they are planning to replace all the Rajdhani Express with Tejas rakes. Hence, they will require more WAP 7 in the future 😊😊😊

      Although I like WAP4s too, I feel that manufacturing them again won't be a good idea. Their traction technology is quite outdated now.

      Do you know one thing guys, the braking system of WAP 4 is even more powerful than WAP 7. In fact, WAP 4 and WAP 5 are almost the same in terms of HP - 5500.
      WAP 5 locomotives can't pull more than 18 LHB coaches while WAP 4 can easily pull even 24 ICF coaches. And if you know that ICF coaches are much more heavy than LHB coaches.
      So in my opinion, Railways should discontinue WAP 5 locomotives and re-introduce more WAP 4 locomotives.

    Kuch saal pehle bhi eha par WAP4 ka raaj tha.
    par aab WAP7 ka raj hai sayad 50 mese 2-3 train o me WAP4 aaur 1-2 train o me WAP5 aur baaki me WAP7

    Don't know about the exact production figures of WAP7 but NWR BGKT shed and Abu road now getting wap-4 and wap-7 in good quantity some railway officials said that uper se order hai 😅 100+ wap7 will get in rajastan nwr division

    it is not reducing. on the contarary it has increased OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. NOW WITH VANDE BHARAT EXP PICKINGUP WAP7 MAY NOT BE NEEDED FURTHER. CLW WILL PRODUCE MODIFIES WAP5 TO BE USED IN A PUSHPULL MODE

    I think converting from ICF to LHB trains is one of the main reason. As LHB coaches runs at faster speed so they need engine like WAP7 to get that speed, so the demand has increased for LHB rakes to have WAP7 for hailung and this is the reason there is shortage of WAP7..this is my observation..this may be wrong :)

    I think railways would have thought wag9 would be used for both passenger and freight operations while wap7 can be used only for passengers trains. Premium trains will be pulled by wap 7, wap 5 or made VB. Others will use wag9. Making non ac VB will remove the need for wap7 locomotive

    In my opinion I don't think wap 5 ka number Kam ho Raha hai..
    Mei howrah zone mei daily passenger hu. Abhi Jada p5 dikhta hai mujhe. 2/3 sal pahale is zone mei p4 ka number Jada tha.

    What IR needs to understand that the focus should be on increasing the average speed of rest of the trains, as part of Mission Raftaar initiative. For that the production of WAP7 is crucial. A 8000 HP variant of WAP5 should also be in the pipeline. Also, the tracks should be upgraded. They’re giving too much importance to Vande Bharat, which is also running with not very good occupancy on some routes. Not everyone can afford Vande Bharat. And I think, when late running of superfast trains will become a major issue because WAG9 being used to haul passenger trains, then their eyes will open so that they can focus on increasing the production of passenger locomotives.

    I did not understand why production of Vande Bharat trains is affecting production ot WAP5/7. Aren't they made in completely different manufacturing plants?
    I have another basic question 🙂. Can an electric engine and a diesel engine be configured as push-pull (diesel engine at the back) to give better acceleration?

    VANDE BHARAT CONCEPT IS APPLICABLE EVERY WHERE . WHETHER IS METRO OR LOCAL TRAINS SETS. SLEEPER VANDE BHARAT ARE ALSO IN THE PIPELINE THEREFORE LHBFICATION ALSO NEED TO BE SLOWED DOWN. ULTIMATELY LHB COACHES (30 YEARS OLD TECHNOLOGY) WILL HV THE SAME FATE AS ICF COACHES.

    Shubham bhai, are you really sure that WAP7 production has been stopped?
    coz everywhere i see online and in real, I see WAP7 locomotives, especially on Rajdhani, on Shatabdi, on Durontos, etc.
    On a route where average speed is 70 or below, using wap7 is a waste of resources.
    ideally, even a WAP4 (with valid lifetime) can serve a train on that route much better. but they are being retired.
    on CR, even now a lot of trains use WCAM series, which were earlier DC + AC but are now retrofitted to work only on Pure AC. it would be a waste of existing resources to not use those locos, many older ones are used as bankers while others are used for passenger trains but high priority trains like Pushpak and Gitanjali still use WAP7 locos. CR Rajdhani uses two wap7s in push-pull config.
    also as i previously mentioned, due to use of single WAG12 instead of dual WAG9s, there are two WAG9s which are now available and are now used separately on two different trains.
    nowadays, for plenty of trains, WAG9s are now used where previously WAP7s were used. it does not mean WAP7s are not being produced.
    they are just diverted to routes where speed + coach load ( 22-24 coach trains) is needed.

    VSKP WAP7 also 52 units but still shortage & wap7 have zone discrimination they didn't give permission VSKP WAP7 Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express remove VSKP WAP7 Bhubaneswar Duronto Express Purushottam Express Bhubaneswar ANVT SF Express and more and most hated things is Vishakapatnam WAP 7 have not permission to DDU route

    I am from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, CLW stopped producing WAP 7 and all WAP 7 are being produced by DLW, due to political reasons. CLW is now producing only WAP 9. I must say CLW is always being neglected by all political parties. But they forget the immense potential of CLW. Mamta Banerjee created a new unit of CLW in Dankuni which is hardly producing anything and becomes a maintenance unit. Modi govt has given a major blow to CLW and moved the production of WAP 7 to Varanasi (DLW), while it was dedicated to diesel locomotives. CLW is producing more than 450+ locomotives every year and the number is increasing continuously. Govt should allocate more WAP 7 to CLW because it is specialised in production of electrical locomotives.

    Train no. 14703/14704 jaisalmer-lalghar jn.-jaisalmer has sleeper and AC coaches but despite of this there is no online booking from IRCTC site why? Pls make a video on it. And pls clear how to book in this train

    Yes Pehle Santragachi(SRC) shed me 58, WAP-7 tha par abhi sirf 26 hi WAP-7 hai....
    SRC shed me thoda zyada WAP-7 rakhna chahiye...
