Something about this song and performance is so chilling. It's like he manages to compress time somehow and bring the past into the present. This is like a true modern folk song imo.
The only version I listen too... and easily my favorite piece of music by Sun kil moon... absolutely gorgeous, once a month since it came out..... I'd have never sincerely listened to his music until I first heard this version of this track.... then benji became exceptional shortly after
I check out comments.. it leads me to new music.. Thank you. I just listened to ‘dead between the walls’ by Pelican and it is sweet. I’ve found so much new music through mentions. Thank you sir.. I appreciate this deeply. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Been following Mark since 1993 when I thought I was *late* to the party! Second album. Amazing not just that he's still performing, but that he's still changing and finding new inspiration. He's made so many great albums that it's near impossible to believe.

I have been waiting for some decent live footage from this album. Thanks Pitchfork. I remember seeing the 9.2 album review of this. No album is more deserving. This record is just unspeakable in it's beauty. I feel like it may stay with me for many more years. The tales, the people, the intense sadness of their stories. It is humbling in it's genius
Check out Waterkill, and Medicine Bottle by Red House Painters. RHP and Sun Kil Moon have the same singer. While you’re at it check out Another Space Song, Bernie and Heliotropic by Failure.
Beautiful! "And everybody remember the paranoia When he stalked the suburbs of Southern California And everybody will remember where they were When they finally caught the Night Stalker And I remember just where I was When Richard Ramirez died of natural causes"
Truly a fantastic story teller. I can't think of a single other musician who can turn anecdotes and conversational topics into lyrics as well as Mark. Then to pair it with good music as well is crazy. On paper it should be boring but for some reason it just marries so well and works perfectly.
Aight guys, this song (specifically this performance), more than any other that I know, NEEDS to be played through some great speakers. If you can, do yourself a favour and try it! I can only ever listen to this through my home theatre system, where sounds like their summoning the dead!

Absolutely haunting

Wish he'd record a version with this instrumentation. Album version is great but this is so..eerie.

Definitely prefer this over the album version. Has more of an eerie dark wave vibe to it that complements the subject matter of the song nicely
Like a Swans - y type of arrangement to it . Yeah , I think I know what you mean ...
Didn't know the album version, but also is an authentic and singular gem.
