    I just bought one -- Model 408010. Seems to have all these improvements. I'm in SE Michigan. We don't get as much snow as they do in W Michigan. Hoping if this works for a guy in Edmonton it will work for me. By the way, I got two 7.5 Ah batteries instead of two 6Ah batteries so maybe that's another improvement. I have other Ryobi tools so always glad to get more batteries.

    Love the oilers jacket. Fellow edmontonian here, I was sent this new model as a replacement to my old model. Old model broke 2 times within 2 uses. Just unpacked the new one they sent for warranty and noticed it was this new model. Looking forward to it actually working this time. Loved that the video was exactly the comparison I was looking for.
    Edit: you mentioned the arms are more stable being rectangular but forgot to mention the handle itself is now metal too. That is the part that broke on me. The old plastic handle snaps when it gets cold.

    I own BOTH models. And both have chutes that jam and freeze up almost constantly. Bad design flaw.

      You can try a silicone spray in the chute to help it prevent clogging up. Seemed to help on mine.

    As of July 1st, 2022 all small equipment
    sold in California Must be electric. No
    more small gas engines. I'll bet in
    June there will be some excellent
    bargains found as stores purge the last
    of their gas gear.

    Can you take them apart and compare what parts are inside? Would be good to see what kind of improvements they made.

    Have to say i bought the smaller 18 inch 40v and it works great with snow up to 6inchs or up to 12 inches on a half wide pass i have no issues with it jamming up due to the wheel as most people dont understand is that you should be pushing this like a shovel if its rolling on the wheels your doing it wrong hope this helps

    Very informative. Was able to scoop a factory refurb off directtoolsonline for $230 w/o batteries. I already have 2 6aH batteries from their last sale when I purchased a single blade, Self-propelled lawn mower. Should run fine. Excited to try.

    Is the new model ry40810 discontinued already? Can’t seem to find that model anywhere. They have one that is similar 40806 but it has the manual chute adjustment!

      @@yourelectricneighbour3633 I heard they took it off the market because of issues with power shut down and something to do with the lever for the chute. Their current model available doesn’t have the lever to adjust the chute.

    I saw the Ryobi 40 V 21-inch wide model in Home Depot today, so I just returned home to check some reviews. Looks like a good one. We get a dry winter here in Alberta, Canada, so I am positive it will do well. I'm planning on grabbing it this weekend.

      I tend to ignore reviews that were “part of a promotion “ but overall these still seem like good units. Keep those batteries from freezing temps though during storage.

      @@kaptainkanguru101 returned it back to home Depot. It was waste of time and effort. Battery was okay but it didn't do a good job completely removing the snow. Next year I will go for Toro gas powered.

    If Ryobi would wake up and make the entire auger out of metal like toro does, I would buy one of these tomorrow. I don't know why they don't do it, the metal auger is much better at breaking up ice.

    How easily does the auger spin by hand? Out of the box its a stiff turn. And i get vibrations when it runs. Wondering if others experience the same?

    • @yourelectricneighbour3633
      @yourelectricneighbour3633  11 місяців тому

      It’s a stiff push but you shouldn’t be feeling vibrations in the handle in my experience. Perhaps compare it with a display model?

  • @thedoeweb

    Is there any self-propelled motion out the flaps spinning around?

    • @yourelectricneighbour3633
      @yourelectricneighbour3633  Рік тому +1

      Unfortunately not. A gas single stage does this by tilting down but the lightness of the battery units make up for it.

    • @yourelectricneighbour3633
      @yourelectricneighbour3633  8 місяців тому

      Since electric snowblowers blades don’t actually pull the unit forward like the gas ones, they shouldn’t wear out. The bottom scraper wears but should last a few hard seasons first.

    For the batteries are you able to use the rectangular batteries from other ryobi tools. This battery looks completely different and made for the snow removers

    Very helpful comparison video. I have several Ryobi 40v tools and was considering purchasing the single stage Ryobi snow blower, but saw many disappointing reviews for the tool on UA-cam. The equivalent EGO 21" push electric snow blower appears to the Best in Class, however I'm already "in the Ryobi ecosystem" so the switch would be quite costly. The EGO's charge in 1 hr (7.5 AH battery) versus the Ryobi 3 to 4 hr charge time for an equivalent size battery.

    • @yourelectricneighbour3633
      @yourelectricneighbour3633  Рік тому

      The charge rate difference is a big plus for the Ego platform. I would also recommend their products but switching brands is pricey for sure. Thanks for watching

    • @yourelectricneighbour3633
      @yourelectricneighbour3633  10 місяців тому +1

      Depends on the type of snow you had. If it’s a frozen layer on the bottom it’ll be fine but if it’s similar consistency then it’ll shoot the gravel. At least either way it’s durable enough to handle gravel (won’t crack the blades).

    Does it help propel like the gas one or you have to push it hard?

    • @yourelectricneighbour3633
      @yourelectricneighbour3633  2 роки тому +3

      Good question, the difference with a single stage electric is that the unit will not propel itself forward with the paddles like a gas unit when tilting downwards. That’s why this new unit is much easier to push with the larger wheels.
