- Vocalise is the second movement of Concert a quatre, written in 1990-1991. The music for Vocalise is actually a transcription of a much earlier (1935) Messiaen choral work, and therefore sounds very different from the rest of Concert a quatre.
About the video: the choice of Sanibel is a personal one. Although what is essentially a home movie of a middle-aged couple finding shells on a beach surrounded by tranquil natural beauty has nothing to do with Vocalise, it is quite in tune with the spirit of the music, and it is my hope that there is a synergy producing a sum greater than the parts. If you like the music, I hope youll get the CD, which also contains Les Offrandes Oubilees and Le Tombeau resplendissant, both written in the 1930s by Messiaen, and also Un Sourire of 1989, which contains a reprise of his 1930s style, along with some of his later birdsong period. Speaking of which, there are lots of birds in the video, so theres some link to Messiaen after all. Enjoy!
merveilleuse musique, merveilleux Messiaen, clip charmant
merci
Beautiful! I must get this CD, being a admirer of Messiaen, the video is perfect and easy to visualize peace and tranquility. Thank you.
Magnificent!!!
Very nice the touch of the sound of the sea at the end
Thank you so much!
❤❤❤❤❤
@floorembden, merci
Thank you! Bet it's wonderful in Sanibel right now! Messiaen's music (especially the earlier work on which Vocalise is based) is religious in nature, so I think it correct to assume he was depicting what Heaven must be like. While Sanibel is not Heaven, for us it's pretty close! Check out some of my other work under logoxyz, and please enjoy!
Encore floorembden 13 ans après, et musique et clip toujours merveilleux ❤
