A Kansas Impression -- Sowerby Symphony 2 - 2nd Movement
"After the rain, a great golden heartland born of a dark rich soil shone full bright." My wife and I recently visited Kansas to see a rehearsal and live concert of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra accompanying my video, Honegger - Pacific 231 (it can be seen here on UA-cam-look under my name logoxyz). Being East Coasters, we wanted to see the Prairie, so we went to Konza Prairie, west of Topeka. It was truly wonderful! This video shows that, and a little of what else we saw in Kansas in the Topeka vicinity. I have set our visit to the 2nd Movement of Symphony No 2 by American composer Leo Sowerby. Sowerby wrote a tone poem called Prairie, which is somewhat similar to this piece. Sowerby and the prairie are both American Treasures! It was a great feeling visiting our Heartland; we look forward to a repeat!

Metro Area Recumbent Society (MARS) ride on a beautiful Summer's day from Staten Island, on the ferry to Manhattan, up the West Side to 70th St and over to Central Park. Just a little bit of Central Park before my camera battery ran out! Great ride!

Vocalise by Olivier Messiaen and Sanibel Island, Florida
Переглядів 6 тис.15 років тому
Vocalise is the second movement of Concert a quatre, written in 1990-1991. The music for Vocalise is actually a transcription of a much earlier (1935) Messiaen choral work, and therefore sounds very different from the rest of Concert a quatre. About the video: the choice of Sanibel is a personal one. Although what is essentially a home movie of a middle-aged couple finding shells on a beach sur...

In 1923, steam locomotives, the height of modern technology, were fast and exciting. Although airplanes were newer, and automobiles and roads were quickly improving, steam was still the prime mover of high-speed transport. The excitement of seeing a huge working locomotive flash by spewing steam, smoke and cinders is hard to describe. Their eerie whistles were at once frightening and exhilarati...
Grounds for Sculpture
Переглядів 6 тис.16 років тому
We love visiting Grounds for Sculpture! Located in Hamilton Twp NJ, near Trenton, it has indoor and outdoor sculptures, and many realistic life-sized human figures by J. Seward Johnson. In some of these, Johnson adds the dimensions of depth and human scale to some famous paintings by Renoir, Manet and others. And, as the video shows, you can put yourself right into the picture. And there's a wa...

Dream machine
PBY's actually help global warming by virtue of them being so F'ing cool!
Nothing like seeing these up close and personal! B-17, B-24, B-25, B-29. All are awesome machines powered by awesome radials!
I wish you happy fly! Catalina PB-Y! 👋👍❤️🙃🎶
Such a beautiful aircraft
All that wing . Ill bet it maneuvers pretty slowly. Heavy on the controls.
Sounded a bit like a B-24... Similar sweet sound
Is there a more iconic aircraft ?
Wow
DESTROYED by the insertion of other audio elements... Guess the piece wasn't "Good enough on its own." Guess the uploader never heard the maxim, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." :-/
tem compartimento pra carregar duas sogras no fundo
That is one beautiful airplane!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Engine so powerful its making the sign behind it flapping in the back.
I know the trail I v had a road bike since 201 had a stroke and still wanted to ride
I just order on looking to find a group perhaps to ride with once a week
You can really appreciate the wing design here and how this plane had unrivalled flight range.
My Fav war birds of WWII are the work horses, P47, C47, B-25, PBY
Hu
0:19 Engines warming up really fast
I need to start a hack chart to keep track of how many times I'll watch this video.
The ultimate fishing camper! I wonder what the cost per hour to fly that would be?
Father flew em in the Navy!
Does anybody know how long those things could stay in the water before the integrity was lost? ' use to clean out CH-46 belly bays out after water landings, just curious.
Muito bom vídeo
Я считаю эталоном гидросамолета 👆
I wanted a Bensen gyrocopter. I wanted to be a bush pilot and fly a Super Cub. I wanted a P-51. I wanted to fly borate bombers I wanted to land my PB-Y in the Bahamas. Dive for lobsters, while my girlfriend sun-tanned on the wings. She's got a range of 3200 miles. Sweet dreams are made of this. Who am I to dis a brie.
great video o a beautiful amphibious bird...but it looked like much less speed and distance needed than on a water take-off...much less....once again great video.
My mother went to work for Consolidated just as war was breaking out in Europe. She worked as a pipe fitter and installed wiring in PBY’s. She was tiny, just 4’11” and could fit in tight spaces which the PBY has in abundance. She was very proud of the work she did on those planes and I’ve always been a huge fan of the plane. One of the finest designs of all time. If only I had the money.....
Those flying bathtubs were so under powered!
k vien conservado este anfibio. deve ser el mimado de esa base veo k no tiene los flotadores. en las alas. ast luefo camaradas
The most elegant seaplane ever built! A true gem!!
Archangel214.: along with the German Do18
Botanical science fiction, like Alice in wonderland...Very "perfumed"
Always loved the PBY.
遊ばなくて良いからさっさと飛べぇ~w!!馬ー鹿ww!!!!!!?こう言う所が正直UZAってぇ~w!!んだよw!!!!アメリカ人のww!!!!!!!Anneeded playing an engine stars!! Take off to the fly to quikely!!!!
Beautiful airplane, beautiful...
Such a beautiful workhorse. All business, but has that unmistakable 1930's style and elegance.
I've read some biographies by guys who flew the PBY in the war and was surprised that most of them felt the plane was obsolete by 1943. The main complaint seemed to be its relatively low speed. In spite of that they continued to serve all over the world for decades after the war ended and several are still flying today.
Beautiful
Looks like it won't even fly lol
I suppose the color on the underside of the aircraft is insignia white and the color on the top is sea blue. I also suppose the color between those two must be intermediate blue. Shouldn't it be a more darker and greyish blue in stead of this really light blue?
One question, you can't manually turn the props. How do they clear the bottom cylinders of oil?
The engines in the bigger aircraft where pulling through the props was not practical had torque limiting clutch on the starter motor. If hydraulic lock was encountered the clutch would slip.
What a stunningly beautiful aircraft... those lines <3
This is my favorite WWII-era plane next to Vought F4U Corsair.
What a nice design!!!!
Perhaps the only radials I ever seen started without tremendouls amounts of blinding white smoke......
Once aloft they could fly on one engine which greatly stretched out their time for searching.
How much ?
If they keep it up at that location they might have to buy that sign in the back!!
