    Good day Minion J. I hope you are well. Niches on shorts really seem to work. Good information

      Thanks Chris, I’m hoping to solidify my findings with the SEGA Saturn shorts

    I'm a collector first and a reseller second and I do admit I personally hate paying ebay prices, haha. My op shop adventures started out for my own collection.
    I've got some pretty rare Sega Saturn games that I'll never sell.
    If your kid is into anime/games then Japan is the best place to thrift. I fill my suitcase everytime!

      Don’t tell her that! She’s bringing my back a life size Koro Sensei ;)

    Nice work on the puzzle! 🤣I'd say I'm never buying puzzles again but they do keep the mother in law 'entertained' in the meantime...

      Haha the only way to get GG out of her self-imposed exile would be for me to buy another puzzle.

    Great vid Jocto & glad to hear GG is on the mend as I haven't had a reply from her. With the console it may be the case that the seller is not tech savvy & doesn't know how to set up & test. If they weren't too far away I would kindly ask to be able to set up & test at their place to confirm. If they say no they are a difficult seller, $300 is a lot to drop on an item with no buyer protection policy to back you up. You're right some people are lazy with their photos & that can affect sale price particularly with higher end items.

      She got back to me later advising that she had checked it and it still worked...but wouldn't send photos. I'm sure it was fine, but I like to have some sort of reassurance haha

    At that price, I would have pushed to test the ps3 on site myself. Bring a little screen and plug it in outside somewhere.
    Many people who think they have a working item actually last tested it 20 years ago.

    I have 1300 listings mostly dvds and games (1 off) I like this idea but like you said these are replenish-able items so it might be a lot of effort for little return - unless I bundle up genres in a single vid and focus on my high value ($100+) items

    • @thedisgruntledoctopus
      @thedisgruntledoctopus  3 місяці тому +1

      To be honest I think any category would work - just need to niche down inside of it. Maybe do a horror short showcasing your wares, etc.
      Just think replenishables as that’s all I’ve tried - but defiantly the sky is the limit when you think about it

    Something I've been trying to do is get that social media attention. I see tiktoks/reels/shorts and think "Yeah Im too old to be doing these things" but they help you get your brand out there as more and more people go for that 1-2 minute content fix rather than the typical 15+ minute UA-cam Videos. Can't say they've been attributing to any sales since all I've done so far are general "Here's what's going live on eBay this week".
    Also on topic of nuclear reset, maybe I should watch the video, but I've see other youtubers talk about a reset like it feeds an algorithm.. when in reality.. eBay wants buyers to stick around and the more items you have that fit a buyers criteria, the more often to list those same types of items it funnels buyers to you. So although I can't say a "nuclear reset" may be what a store needs as I don't quite want to do that in a store of nearing 4000 items but makes more sense that sellers niche into things as eBay pushes repeat buyers, where people that sell in multiple categories aren't giving that variety to potential buyers.

      I think the hardest part is actually starting and getting out there. I personally agree with you - I think short form content is better bang for buck. The purpose of Social Media should be advertising opposed to building a secondary income.
      I think the nuclear reset is good in moderation, don't use it on variation or multi-qty listings (that have sold history).

    I think dvd sales will become unsellable when Australia post says you can't send them as letters anymore. There will probably be a nostalgia surge for them 5 or 10 years after they stop making them, then bye bye. Also they don't last forever. Had a few snap in my hands recently just getting them out of the case. Makes me worry for my own collection

    • @dazzavn
      @dazzavn 3 місяці тому +1

      What indication do you have that AP will not let you send them as letters? Happy to take your collection off your hands lol

    • @thedisgruntledoctopus
      @thedisgruntledoctopus  3 місяці тому +2

      I think that eventually Aust Post will tighten and won’t let anything rigid through (there was talk last year about bringing in a 250g level).
      From my recollection, AP is bleeding $ due to the letter service - so who knows…

      Hahaha you can have mine, I bought 8 storages boxes full of reseller crap a few years ago. Offloaded them locally

    • @emusaurus

      @@dazzavn I can't see large letters being viable long term. If they're increasing their prices every 6 months now, it's only a matter of time before they start placing more restrictions on large letters.

    • @dazzavn
      @dazzavn 3 місяці тому +1

      @@emusaurus but that only impacts dvd sellers that rely on $10-15 ASP, that gets you nowhere anyways so I think it’ll be a force for good to get your average sell price higher

      I don’t think I’ve done one since we spoke about it last on the podcast. I might use it instead of markdown sales for the stubborn inventory.

    Puzzles are just one area I haven’t dared to venture into. So many pieces. The only other thing that could be worse is Lego. There’s money in both, just not worth my sanity.
    The last time I sold something with hundreds of pieces I paid a neighbourhood kid $10 to put it together.
    Nice sale!

      LEGO sends me insane, best to sell as bulk (if open & generic).
      GG lambasted me over this puzzle haha
