Tom, I’ve discovered your Fantastic videos online but one of them will truly change my fishing! I’ve been fishing Walleye’s all my life. Unfortunately, I’m at kindergarten level with electronics and the gps. Your video on shading changed all that. I have Navionics on my phone and just hadn’t taken the time to play with it. Well, your shading video told me - “I can do that” and if I can, I can hover over every hump on any lake while vertically jigging. After 3 very pushy emails to Navionics asking them for specific instructions on shading, I marked over 60 decent humps on my new home lake near Duluth. Also marked a few deep holes for late fall crappie. My Garmin striker 4 can’t shade but now I can simply dump the coordinates into it. Thank you 😊 Thank you 😊 Thank you 😊 Best regards. Mike Tucci
I've only ever caught walleye when my family friend took me on his boat, but I always appreciate your videos because once I'm done with school and buy a boat for myself I'm going to get on some. Thanks brother!
Great Job Tom! Very thorough, probably the best breakdown I have come across. I appreciate the time and energy you spend helping us to become better anglers. Keep up the good work.
Tom, outstanding video. Super nice you tell and show how to fish a lake before even being on the lake. You're the best and so happy you use and show how to make settings on a Helix. I am learning how to use my Helix 7 from your videos. Keep making more videos fishing walleye. Thank you!
This is great stuff sir, exactly the kind of information I have been looking for. Now with this video combined with all the other great info I am pilfering from you I am confident I can find'em anywhere. Thanks so much!!
In Pymatuming in NE Ohio, NW PA. , you have lots if weed bed areas which are productive....going in and out if the river channel is productive when trolling for Walleye. The rocky causeway at night too.
Hello from Wyoming... Great info thanks Tom I just bought a hoody i hope it helps you need to keep this going ... warmest regards to you, Shellster, and the pups...
Tom, you KNOW what you have to do now. You have to GO to that lake, GO to that reservoir and run those waypoints. SHOW us what they look like on side imaging, down imaging and sonar and either fish them or eliminate them from consideration. That is the next piece of the puzzle. You've done the mapping homework, now complete the assignment and actually run those spots with the depthfinder on. Lastly, start catching them. I think that would be an excellent tutorial on the entire fish finding process!!
Tom, you do a lot of lakes would you consider doing a video or a Tom Talk on where to look for walleyes during different times of the year on the Mississippi, Thanks
Who’s giving the thumbs down for this? Got a jilted Ex? Is Mitch just messing with you or something? I can’t believe someone actually didn’t like this content. Even your editing is top notch. What’s not to like?
I've grown to love your channel and appreciate the level of specificity you provide regarding your experiences on the waters in your area. I would love to have something simliar pertaining to the shallower lakes near me. My area has many lakes that do produce walleyes, but are less than 20' deep. Would love to hear how these relatively shallow water lakes compare to those that are 50-60'. if walleyes are in 20-30' in a lake that's 50' deep, will they relate shallower structural elements than the 20' areas where that is the max depth, or are they going to pursue the deepest water possible regardless of structure down to something like 30 or 35'? Thanks again for all the info.
What I think would be great is, similar to this video, plot some waypoints, then actually go fish the lake. Possible ? Just a thought. Great and truly informative video...I truly feel more confident in fishing new lakes !
Thanks Tom, super interesting to see and hear how you think when doing a breakdown. Maybe one of the best videos on your channel, which is saying alot because they are all excellent. Is there a Spring breakdown video out there?
Great video and I learned a lot. I also ask if you could follow up and do a video on a lake after applying this before hand. Do you usually clear your way points after you decide it’s not a good location to reduce clutter for future trips to that lake? Your a excellent teacher!
Great video on concepts for finding points! At least you are honest, bc we already knew you'd never fish Bear Lake unless you were in an ice fishing contest for pike haha.
Another great video thanks Tom. How’s the walleye fishing up by Hayward in mid October. I’m not a big hunter so I was thinking about heading up there for a bit since I love fall fishing!
Very informative video...are you using the basemap that comes with the Helix or do you use Lakemaster? Very interested in the depth highlighting you demonstrated.
To go along with this video which i think is great, could you also detail on how you would decide on what lures to use, ie, light colors, dark colors, live bait or artificial baits?
Great video! How would you fish these shallow water areas? Because you were marking waypoints in 9-10 feet or so. I would think lots of weeds in those depths!
This video is so helpful! Thanks for showing us how to strategically approach a new lake when fishing for walleye. I’ve watched all your posts and this would be in my top 2 or 3. How do I register for the Piscifun 2000? Thanks!
i like to fish below dams . waders , net and dress for cold . jigs and twister tails and just about any dam on the wisconsin river.the colder and more like duck weather the better. big walleye bass and musky. fish them right til deer season.
I baught a humminbird just bc you do such a great job explaining everything so we'll..Dumped my lowrance..Wish you could have gotten credit for the sale..you deserve that much for sure. What software do you use or recommend for Northeast water??
Do you put north side of lakes favourable to south side of lakes? my theory is north sides get warmer water earlier and longer cause the sun is always warming it from sun up to sun down. South sides can have shaded areas in which cool off water.
Hey Tom, Question for you... I am brand new to the fishing electronics game and after watching this video last night I went out to try and find some walleye this morning. My question is how do you find walleye on a lake that does not stay a certain level throughout the year? Bull Shoals in Missouri is know to fluctuate quite a bit. I set my new Garmin to show me the 20 foot contours but when I got to the lake all of those areas are 35 feet deep right now. Any ideas how I can still find the fish??? Thanks Jared
Do you prefer wind direction or structure characteristics? Would you be more likely to fish decent structure with wind blowing into it or great structure that is not in the wind
Also. You mention the two bites deep and shallow, could the shallow bite be because the shinners are spawning/staging to spawn? Walleye will follow there prey..?
tom hey bro i have a hummingbird helix 7 mega gen3 i don't have any contour lines on the mapping is there something i am missing in my set up or do i need to buy the mapping chip like avionics or lake master thanks!! bob
Question about your humminbird, are you using the lakemaster or do you use the chart select? I tried chart select to get the HD contour of my main reservoirs but the map doesn't seem to populate. Its all grayed out.
I had the same problem with ChartSelect contour maps. I called Humminbird tech support. On your HELIX, go to the CHART TAB and make sure your MAP SOURCE is AUTO. With your chip in the unit, go to the HB CHART TAB, OVERLAY OPTIONS, MAP OVERLAY, select your lake name, and pick 2D MAP. That should remove the gray shading over the contour map.
Another note on ChartSelect contour maps: they function the same as the LakeMaster chip - you can offset for changing water levels and do the same highlighting. If you only need a couple of lakes, the ChartSelect route is an economical way to go. You can also put download them to a smartphone and do the same things at no extra charge. Uses the phone GPS.
Would you considered a Chain of Lakes (Minocqua, Manitowish, Eagle River, Cisco) to be a hybrid between these two? Plenty of inflows, outflows but no distinct river channel.
Tom outstanding video! You are by FAR THE BEST on UA-cam! I hope your being rewarded for your efforts!
Love this style of video! Keep up the good work

Looks like I’m not the only one thinking a musky version would be a nice.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Wow I'm gonna have to watch this a few times. Alot of info. But very informative. Thanks Tom
Thanks for making content, Tom. You have the best fishing channel on UA-cam. Fellow Wisconsinite here.
I've only ever caught walleye when my family friend took me on his boat, but I always appreciate your videos because once I'm done with school and buy a boat for myself I'm going to get on some. Thanks brother!

How freaking cool. As always, invaluable information and "too much fun". Love it.
Simply amazing how you break down new water. Thanks for the great information on looking at different structure.
Excellent content Mr Boley! Thanks for putting it out there and keep up the great work
Wow this video is a game changer thanks a million Tom.
Awesome video! Helped me so much in using my Hunminbird. Thanks Tom! 🎣
Combining the knowledge in this video with the knowledge in your other videos will definitely help me find more walleyes! Excellent stuff Tom!
Great Tom talk! Pmytuming lake waiting on you tom
In Pymatuming in NE Ohio, NW PA. , you have lots if weed bed areas which are productive....going in and out if the river channel is productive when trolling for Walleye. The rocky causeway at night too.
Shirt order Tom! Hooked up fish on
Tom can you do a session on waypoint management? One of the best videos you have done. Great teacher for sure.
This video was really helpful Tom, hopefully you can discuss a video like this for ice fishing.
I love these types of videos super super helpful thank you!
Hello from Wyoming... Great info thanks Tom I just bought a hoody i hope it helps you need to keep this going ... warmest regards to you, Shellster, and the pups...
Great video, please do a Muskie breakdown for the different stages of fall
Incredible information in this video..Thanks Tom!
I never noticed that, now I can't stop laughing every time he says it! 😂
good vid Tom, excellent content as always, next vid go to those spots and show us how it works out
Nice breakdown I'm gonna try and find some new spots with that technique this weekend. Thanks Tom
Awesome content as always, Tom! Thanks for sharing!

Yet another great video Tom!
Great video. I love learning more on how to use my Humminbird!
Great information! Applying the tips this weekend.
Who’s giving the thumbs down for this? Got a jilted Ex? Is Mitch just messing with you or something? I can’t believe someone actually didn’t like this content. Even your editing is top notch. What’s not to like?
I'd really like to see you fish that first lake using your waypoints, just to see if you mark/catch walleye.
Good video, it would be interesting to pair it up with a video of you fishing those spots.
EXCEPTIONALLY EXCELLENT!😉👍🏾

Thanks for the info Tom! 👍
I really wish you wold do this again but where you look for good musky spots
"Right"
Thanks Tom, super interesting to see and hear how you think when doing a breakdown. Maybe one of the best videos on your channel, which is saying alot because they are all excellent. Is there a Spring breakdown video out there?
Hittin the big chip all next week. Hoping for a 50+ musky, a few good walleyes, some crappies for lunch and deffinatley expecting a hangover or 2.
Great vid Tom!
Great info friend

Good stuff. I’ll be trying this out on my Helix 7!
Great video on concepts for finding points! At least you are honest, bc we already knew you'd never fish Bear Lake unless you were in an ice fishing contest for pike haha.
Take a drink every time Tom says "right?"
Good luck, gents.
I never noticed this until you mentioned it. Lol
Lol thanks now that's all I hear, and now I'm drunk jk still awesome video
I did just that 3 days ago and I am still hammered...
Awsome video.... Looking forward to using the tips to hit up the Petenwell flowage this weekend!!! Do you do guiding out there?? Love all the vids
awesome stuff
You need to try fishing lake Pepin!
Another great video thanks Tom. How’s the walleye fishing up by Hayward in mid October. I’m not a big hunter so I was thinking about heading up there for a bit since I love fall fishing!
Love for you to look at lake blue ridge in Georgia. One of the best walleye lakes in ga. Depth goes to 135ft
Great video man! You should plan a trip out to Washington state and hit up lake Roosevelt, huge reservoir on the Columbia river.
Very awesome. 👍
How many guys are sitting in their boats trying to find these lakes?? Lots of good info in this video.
Very informative video...are you using the basemap that comes with the Helix or do you use Lakemaster? Very interested in the depth highlighting you demonstrated.
Great info. Thanks Tom. HEY, How about a Surley tee Shirt???
Or HOOKED UP!!
I’d love it if you’d analyze The Whitefish Chain in central Minnesota! It stumps me 90%of the time!
It is both a “flowage” as well as a series of deep clear lakes!
Man, I was just there camping for 5 days. It was a struggle, only caught 4 but the sunfish and crappies were biting.
After watching this video I applied some of what Tom said on my helix in the garage and I saw a lot of spots I never hit.
I fish that flowage 25 times a year! Good water and good fishery.
Does it start with a W?
@@marklongway1906 Yep!
Have you charted any lakes yet Arlen
Nice video🎣👍
I will be trying all your spots on the flowage. Cant believe you never fished it.
New drinking game. Every time Tom says "Right" take a drink! Lmao we're 4:45 into this video and we have already cracked our second!

Can you do a breakdown of island lake resevoir in duluth mn? I've been wanting to fish that lake for walleyes.
Do you look for the same structures early ice and into the winter? Great video btw
Do you put north side of lakes favourable to south side of lakes? my theory is north sides get warmer water earlier and longer cause the sun is always warming it from sun up to sun down. South sides can have shaded areas in which cool off water.

Thank you.
Would you use the same approach on a very deep(100'+) reservoir with lots of flooded timber such as those in Arkansas?
Would you go for these same spots when you're on the ice ?
Have you found walleye suspended from the ledge at that 30ft - 50ft?
Tiller guys know best!
what if river channel is 80’ deep. how would you break that down?
Hi Tom, are you using the LM Wisconsin Plus card or standard LM Wisconsin v.X card in your unit?

Make one about fall pike
Do you ever use Google Earth in conjuction with the maps?
This video was instrumental in me finding a pb walleye at 25”
Thanks everyone for pointing out the insane amount of times that he says right, now I can’t even focus on what he’s saying.
Bro, time stamp for Lakers footage?
Make a video for fall pike
