You know... Seven years later, I think I am finally ready to admit that Homestuck was a good experience and that I'm happy I read it. All the pauses, the kickstarter fiasco, the unresolved plot threads and unanswered questions, the horrible way some characters were done dirty in the last arcs, the terrible transparency, the outsourced art, the at times godawful fandom, and the questionable epilogues left me feeling really bad about the whole thing for a long time. It made me feel weird whenever I thought about it because my nostalgic feelings are mixed with in with both anger and grief. But as a whole I think it was worth it, and if I had a time machine and had the opportunity to recommend it to my past-self I think I might've.
Despite how much I hate how it ended up, how much I REALLY hate "post cannon", and how I feel duped and scammed by giving to the Kickstarter back in the day....I do still massively love most of the main HS comic and would not trade the experience I had during that very first read thru so long ago for anything. It captured my imagination and lit a creative spark in me like few other things in me before or since. All the characters live completely rent free in my heart forever....
Honestly I joke about how I'm not into Homestuck anymore but I always come back for the soundtrack - you can't deny that the soundtrack was what made Homestuck good
Lately I feel like Im done with Homestuck and that its in my past now... But I have almost every album on my phone and I still listen to them all the time. It definitely helps to separate the music from the webcomic in your mind, which isn't a stretch either, given that almost all of it was fan contribution. It almost feels a shame to me that all of these absolute bangers are forever cursed with this name, but it is what it is, I guess. On the plus side, its rare that other people recognise Homestuck music as anything but "good music", until you find another Homestuck fan and they nod solemnly and knowingly.
nah i think homestuck(at least part 1-5) are really really good. and part 6 is an amazing meta deconstruction of homestuck within the narrative. it's hard to say any one thing i'd say is wrong with it that wouldn't change the fabric of it's identity in a way that'd make it unrecognizable. like, there's some stuff i'd change, like the humans all being white for example, but there's some shit i don't think you could touch and leave the experience as impactful as it is. it has been a while since i've gone through homestuck since the beginning, but man...as someone that used to HATE homestuck (mostly due to it's fans) and still hate it's fanbase...like, part of why these songs are as good as they are is because of what they're associated with. like umbral ultimatum goes so hard when you think about the animation that went along with it, or fucking cascade for example. nah homestuck is good. i'm adult enough to admit it. when i was a teen i wasn't but now i am. the music is part of what makes it good.
I need to reread. I genuinely havent since it ended back in 2016. I remember being on my school laptop throughout the years and being so hyped when it finally started updating again after one of the many pauses
