I have the “monster go cloud” cube. I use it to practice my OLL and PLL. Easier for me to keep track how the pieces of the top layer (for OLL) or the bottom layer (for PLL) move. It’s pretty cube.
@@EmmzMC for PLL, I simply do any alg I want to practice and keep track on how the bottom layer’s pieces move instead of the top during the alg’s steps. You’re correct. The top layer will be solved for pll. Maybe that’s my weird habit. When I do a pll alg, I memorize how the white pieces of the bottom layer go on a normal cube as well. 😅
I think the UT cube is actually useful to practice the last layer algorithms as it's easy to set them up in a position that's one move away from a solve them attempt the algorithms where if there's a mistake made while attempting it then it's easy to reset it and doesn't require solving the whole cube to get it back to the right position
@@jlightmusic6258 Maybe, but I think understanding better how the pieces move is beneficial on the long run, it will help with things like look ahead in the future.
2:47 I've created cubes like this to try and teach my friends how to cube. I find it useful for me to help teach them, as they focus on a singular step (cross, the first layer, first 2 layers, etc), and then use that knowledge to build up to the next step. If they mess up the first layer, they can use their tunnel-visioned knowledge to solve the cross and try again on the first layer. I managed to teach three people in Minnesota and one of my engineering mates with the cubes. I am always down to try and teach new people how to cube if they are willing to learn.
I picked up the UT cube to help me learn to solve the cross. I had a problem where everything would get lost in the colors and the black pieces on the UT cube has helped me identify patterns on my main 3x3 so it actually has helped. However it’s not magnetic so it hasn’t been helpful for practicing speed at all. It’s also a little sticky when starting a turn so it’s not the greatest thing on the market. I wouldn’t recommend it, just get a good 3x3 and practice, practice, practice!
the larger corner cutting a cube has will not matter if the smaller ones are not good enough, it's because of that that the gan xs is so liked by so many people
Training cubes are useful for newbies, but for most of them all you really need to do is remove the stickers. I guess the striped one might not be so easy, but it's just as easy to buy a normal cube and remove stickers, rather than buying a specific cube. Also, the void cube can be achieved by simply removing the centerpiece caps, even if they're stickered. It won't look as good, but great if you just like the challenge of it rather than the aesthetics.
the way I teach a basic method of solving cubes to a couple of friends for casual solving and nothing like speed cubing I can see these cubes be usefull, they have very specific lessons in mind that would make it easy to focus on for a beginner that can be distracted by all 6 colors being everywhere
@@Rattus375 There is another variation of ortega on 3x3, where you solve the bottom and top faces, do PLL and solve the E slice with an z rotation and M U moves.

With the rainbow cube, if you start with one of the full face colours in the bottom (orange or white) then that means during f2l, any of the four edges pairs with any one of the corners, and in any orientations. I’m not sure how useful this would be but you could choose which f2l case you want to do without need to set it up, while still making progress and with no need for last layer
