- As foiling is growing and progressing in so many ways we thought we would add another fun one to the bucket list. SUP foiling is a great way to learn the basics of foiling; you can catch waves early as you are already standing. Even better, it opens up the inter-coastal waterways and other water areas to your imagination on what can be ridden. To boat waves, standing waves, river waves, endless opportunity! In this video we cover the basics to help you on your flat water foil expedition!

I'm inspired. I've spent the entire summer learning how to wing foil our local lakes with their gusty and often low winds. Looks like a downwind board is in my near future!
It is changing the game for sure!
Your tutorials are amazing!
Thank you!
Glad we can help! More to learn on this area, but a start to help others.
You keep inspiring me Damo!!!
Thank you very much!
Solid video. Great tips. Your high positive energy comes across nicely.
Thank you!
Nicely done!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the tuto ❤
Great video, good advice, thanks for putting it in prospective!
Glad we could help! Thanks for the kind words.
The sup how too was well done itd the last part of your vid that set my day up for success! Well done.
Thank you for your kind words!
Thanks! Great video
Thank you! We appreciate you.
Awesome!
Thank you!
I wanna give this a go!
You go this!
Easy to understand explanation for a beginner like me. I’ve been wingskating for several years. Is the Kalama board recommended for beginners? Thanks.
Siiiiiiiiiick!
Awesome vid as always! just basically got the board up on foil and it is kinda spooky when it goes from slapping to pumping. What helped me a ton was to go out in marginal conditions, like 8kns. Even the lite wind helps get moving. Try to get on pump down wind for like 40 meter and slowly paddle back up wind to recover. It is a crazy good workout and i need to have good recovery, otherwise Im totally toasted after like 15min
Awesome glad we could help!
very nice
Thank you!
Awesome. This pushed me to try it out. What type of paddle are you using?

Hey Damo, great videos you guys are continuing to do, thank you! I just got a dragonfly Ginxu 105L and put my 91cm Moses mast and 1100 front wing on it. I've not done a lot of paddle boarding but I'm having trouble trying to get the most power from the stroke,. it seems like I have to turn the paddle a bit to keep the board going straight and it feels like I'm losing some of the power of the stroke because of it. I also tried pulling a bit on the diagonal first and then finishing the stroke straight. Your technique in the video seems like you just pull the paddle straight and don't twist it but I'm sure once you have a bit more speed like you show in the short clips it would be easier to just go flat and straight with the paddle angle and stroke? what's the tip? Thanks!
A shorter mast will help, like closer to 70cm. 92cm is adding a lot of drag

I miss having wind in Florida.
Right been very calm recently!
Gewn and Damo, you guys are awesome! A real wealth of knowledge, but even better you're a huge inspiration to us novice foilers! Thanks for all your videos!! I started foiling a few months ago, and I'm now realising that my local spot has really light wind most of the time - like 10 knots or less (sometime close to nothing). I'm not sure whether I'd be better off getting a bigger wing, like the North Loft Pro 7/8m, or a downwind board. Do you guys have any insight into which would make the biggest different in light wind conditions? I'm currently riding a 5'7" x 29.5" Gong Lance, with a 1900sqcm foil and 5.5m wing.
Nick thank you for the kind words! I would lean towards a downwind board as we are realizing that you can ride in such light winds with a long skinny, fast downwind board you can actually use a 5.5 or 6 wing easy in less than 10mph with some practice like this video. ua-cam.com/video/zq13kvq1KpI/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared In 10mph a 7m or 8m will help with a normal wing board but I think there is more potential to the longer downwind board. My honest thoughts.
Second to what Damo says. I struggled with a shorter and wider sup board for a long time and recently went to a DW board. Made all the difference popping up and shocked how well it flies when on foil and winging. I resisted the board change too long, it was the biggest difference by a lot.
@@robmayhew3633 Thank you for sharing Rob! You rock....
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam Thanks for the reply, it's super helpful to get your thoughts! I'm leaning towards a board change as well, so good to have confirmation on my thinking. Greetings from Madeira island!
@@robmayhew3633 thanks a lot for that Rob! Seems like this is the consensus! I guess a DW board will always be more versatile than a bigger wing.
Hi, nice vid. What is the right size for the paddle? Cheers Matze
About your height, so shorter than a traditional paddle for SUP
Hello Damo and Gwen
I got my KT Ginxu 105L a month or so ago and have gone out 5-6 times and it’s tough ! I am definitely making progress each time but still some ways to getting up on foil! I tried the bigger Axis 1310 front wing ( as Gwen suggested) but actually preferred the 1150 which felt was easier to pump! I weigh 145lbs and wonder if that is a factor in choosing size of front wing or should I still be looking for a bigger front wing 🙏
I think you just need more time on the water. It is not easy you are part of the 1% doing it. :) Being so small I would say the 1150 will be easier to manage and might not get up as easy but in time will be great! Stick with it like you said you are making progress! :). Enjoy!
Thank you so much! You guys are so good and yet I can really feel your empathy towards us mortals and really appreciate your constant encouragement to just preserve, enjoy the process and never give up 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the kind words! We get just as much motivation to keep going so thank you. @@robertho1770
Hi there! Is there any brand that offers a board like your Kalama Baracuda for less than a grant? Or in other words, where do I get the best deal on a board in pretty much the dimenssioms you are using here? 🙋🏻♂️
A few options here, I think the AFS might be an option? wingfoilprocenter.com/collections/downwind-sup-foil
thanks for the video! i was wondering if it's possible do it with a fanatic skysup 6'5" 125l and a sabfoil leviatan 1150, i think the skysup it's too heavy but i would like to know other opinions
ps: i'm 5'9" (175cm) for 143 lb (65kg)
I think the board is a little too large and sticky to paddle up on flat water! (not saying it is not possible but would not be easy). For sure with a little swell you can get up on foil 100% with your set up. The boards that make it easy to do this are very narrow and skinny for speed. I hope that makes sense.
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam yep I agree about the recommend boards, I have also an RRD beluga 165 (90L) but it's really hard stay up and paddle 😅 but sometimes it's funny try it😎
Thank you for sharing!

What paddle lenght do you use for paddle up in flat water?
About your height or slight more (+ 2 inch). It's nice to use an adjustable paddle at the beginning to find the exact length you like: wingfoilprocenter.com/products/quickblade-kanaha-adjustable?_pos=2&_psq=quickblade&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Thanks
@@yannickmarien7394 Thank you!
Nice helpful vid. What body of water is that?
Intercostal in Jupiter, FL
Thought it looked south-florida-ish. I'm down in Delray Beach.
Very similar yep! @@RealBobDorris
what size is the kalama baracuda in the clip
7'10 X 102L. This board wingfoilprocenter.com/products/kalama-barracuda-downwind-foil-board?variant=46003443106096
i have the same one@@DamienLeroyUA-cam
I keep saying, 'it's all foiling these days' (think Chevy Chase as Fletch and 'it's all ball bearings these days') with wake foiling, wing foiling, eFoiling, surf foiling, SUP foiling, kite foiling, pump foiling, I'm waiting to see kayak foiling!
:)
Actually the foiling kayak was invented first: the flyak in 2005.
That is very cool! @@DS-zs4ge
Nice .. thanks - the point is ... more gear ? hmmm .. that is a point I don´t like
Yea 100% understand.
Step 1: have $5000 to buy the kit.
Fuck…
Great advice Damien! All misery is based on unfulfilled expectations (Epictitus). So keep expectations low and go for the workout!
We appreciate you!
