It gave me chills when you brought up the “full circle” moment after leaving your friends house after the funeral and seeing the 5 kids playing soccer together. What a powerful realization that you had there, thanks for sharing. It also makes me think of the “last time” we do something and usually not knowing it will be the last time you did it. One day in the past, it was the last time you played soccer with your friends in the park like that. If only we knew in the moment and could appreciate that something was the last time we would do it. Separately, and feel free to ignore this if you want to of course: I wrote in back in 2020 about my brother taking his own life and it was important to me that it be clear about how he died. There is a stigma around suic*** which I think makes people less likely to bring up when they are having a hard time in life. If your friend died from this way too, I think there can be value to discussing that openly. I feel like as I grow I have less and less common with my childhood friends. Some still don't work full time jobs or do gig work, some are traveling and not settling down to buy a home, a lot aren't getting married and other than one friend nobody else is has kids. I feel like I have less and less in common with them as I grow up. When everyone is kids, everyone is single, has free time and doesn't need money. It's hard keeping in contact with people when I have a full time job, attend grad school and have a home and family that consume all my time. I try and connect with childhood friends twice a year but with only 2 one hour calls a year its hard to catch up and starts feeling pointless when i can't reguarly keep in touch. My mid 20's look like a midlife crisis when it comes to socializing with friends outside my family.
