Used to play here as a kid!! Remember getting caught out by the tide and having to spend what seemed like HOURS waiting for it to go out again so we could get back home to Corstorphine. Recall my parents didn’t seem too bothered that I’d been away for about ten hours!! 😂😂😂 Happy days 😊 Great video and took me all the way back to my childhood. Seems so long ago but also just like yesterday as well.
I've been following your videos for a couple of years, Steve, and decided to go back and watch them all from the very first. What a great decision! So interesting to see how your channel has developed from a great start to phenomenally compulsive viewing. Also, so good to see Alicja appearing initially on this early video. All my best wishes - Bryan in northern Greece
This took me back nearly 45 years ! Camped on the island many time in my youth best summer holidays ever! Water carrying from the mainland was the only drawback .
Stunning, totally amazing the vibes, the views... i just love the way you explain the things, that music is gorgeous too, i really enjoy your video mate! Well done :)
I thought that was lovely content, seeing places like this is always nice; even if it's just round the corner from you, it's still new and exciting for us!
Thank You! from Burbank, California. U S A< I so glad to see your video, since it's nearly impossible for us to travel . It was like going on a short vacation. Very nice!

Fantastic. Me and my daughter visited Edinburgh 3 years ago and we camped in the car park there for 2 of the nights. Went out to cramond, just made it back over the causeway and also found the little treasure box hidden in the stone wall. Think I left a ticket from Severn valley railway with the other photos. Thanks for the happy memories 👍

Thanks for taking me there virtually and showing me around! Now I began to adore Edinburgh! Most definitely a place to discover! .) Aye! Capt. of the Blackthorne
Fascinating. I never would have had a clue that such a place exists in the city. Thanks. Oh, and would I stay in one of the concrete pillboxes? Yeah, sure, in a pinch. Any port in a storm.
Loved this video Steve! So well shot! It looked so peaceful and blissful! Aww, the wee robin! They always make me think of your mum! Loved his wee spindly legs!
Thank you. Your videos always spark my imagination; not a mean feat given my innate grumpiness! I’m fascinated by the originality of each of your videos. The format regularly changes. Also the island reminds me of Singapore’s doorstep rural island: Palau Ubin.
Thanks so much and welcome aboard! Really appreciate the sub and views from beautiful Norway! Love your country but haven't had the pleasure to film a video there yet.
This was lovely and so peaceful! Your videos are the only Scotland ones I watch regularly. I am going to be visiting in October! It’s my second visit and I can hardly wait. We are spending two days in Edinburgh, then heading north, mostly following the A9 to Inverness, but with several stops along the way. On to Smoo cave, John O’Groats, then into the Cairngorms. (Lots of distilleries to explore🥃) We have researched places and things we want to see, but I always welcome suggestions. Thank you so much for creating this channel!
I'm always tempted to pretend I'm stranded just to get a ride in the RNLI boat. 😉 The Edinburgh punks put on a festival on the island every year. Been to it a few times, great fun!
Cramond island is awesome. Spent most my teenage year there. Sitting ontop one of the huts. Always wanted to camp this island. Apparantly someone has bought the island now.
@@steve-marsh yes it was awesome. Spent most my summers there. I know a few people that live in Muirhouse (about 15 - 20 mins away). I suspect it could just be a rumour because I can't find anything online. Close to £1m I'd guess.
Thank youfor this too. I took my sister to the island. She was over the moon . Lovely wee trip. Cheers. Wouldnt stay in those concrete holes! Looks creepy.
@@steve-marsh Who knows what ordnance you will dig up. The Germans tried at least once to bomb the railroad bridge (the only bridge at that time). And those obstacles you see along the path were meant to keep German submarines (or Schnellboote ?) out of the Firth of Forth. And if I'm not mistaken they found Roman archeology in Cramond.
Very peaceful with some lovely music. This makes me realize how much I need to just sit on a rock and look at the sea. I had planned on seeing Mum in Swansea this year but that is now going to be sometime in late 2021 but at least I will see the sea!
This is fantastic stuff Steve. It is hard to describe but Scotland has a special feeling I can’t define . Especially up North, parts of New Zealand feel similar especially the Fjord area in the South West of the Southern Island. This takes me back to when I used to camp.
Cracking views of what is on our doorstep :-) I stay in Fife, and knew Cramond Island was there, but I never expected it to be so nice! Thanks for sharing your experience :-)
Our first holiday to Edinburgh with my wife and kids was to cramond we stayed funnily enough in the cramond hotel, it was a great spot for the kids to explore and gave them a bit of freedom, unfortunately for them their mum wanted to explore Edinburgh especially the childhood museum, happy days
Great video. Been over to Cramond several times, fabulous place. Seriously think they need to start charging people for rescues though, or make them wait a few hours for the tide. Bigger groups stuck out there they call out our RNLI up at Kinghorn as well - such a waste of money for people who don’t read the tide times on the notice!
Cheers Richard - and yes although it was fun to see the boat, I couldn’t agree with you more. And if it had been me I’d have waited for the tide for sure, I’d be wayyy too embarrassed to call! I really hope they made a healthy donation afterwards.
SteveMarsh Yes, the inshore lifeboats that they use at Queensferry and Kinghorn are great to watch - seen several demonstration runs from the Kinghorn boat and it does look coming up the main channel of the river between Kinghorn and Inchkeith at speed.
What WAS in that bag? You’ve inspired me to go out with the dog.. never realised the island was as big as that, wow! What’s the point in even getting rescued from there anyway? Just take a few smokes, few drinks, a nice big scran and a battery charger, and maybe even have a sleep.. safe as safe can be
All these things on our doorstep. Not sure id fancy camping out. Not my thing. But as long as i could do it in a day without getting stuck by the tide.
I'll bet that island is full of ancient archaeology because of its defensible geographic location. You may have been camping on some. It has that "look" about it.
In 1975 my friend and I found an old chest buried in the Northern tip of the island full of Spanish Gold coins. We grabbed a handful each then moved the chest to Bury in a different spot. This day was the final day of the schools summer holidays, so it was 2 weeks before we got back to the Island, and guess what? Yep we couldn't find the place we had buried the treasure in cause we didn't think about drawing up a map, no phone cameras back then. I don't think it was ever found, because there was a lot of Gold coins. 2 yrs later we found a silver candle stick, which had been stolen from the Dalmeny castle eastate in 1901.
Lovely documentary. Some place i wouldnt know existed now is a place to go! Btw people should be charged for brnging out a lifeboat. Or a enterprising fisherman should anchor there on nice sumner days.
Totally agree! I would feel really embarrassed to call them and to be honest, if I was in that situation, I'd just wait for the next low tide. Those folks were straight on the phone as soon as they missed the crossing!

I wasn't expecting to be sitting here feeling relaxed and with a smile on my face 😊 thanks Steve and Alicja.

Very seldom could you find an island so near the city and yet very solitude, serene and beautiful. The shot of the Robin 4:00 was awesome. Well done, Steve.
A really peacefull video. During lockdown here in Devon, I explored much more of the area where I live, and found some wonderful places off the beaten track. I found one such place within walking distance from my home, and it was a truly wonderful experience to sit on top of one of the highest points in Mid Devon, between Exmoor and Dartmoor with Sidmouth in the back ground. Only the Buzzards circling above. Like you I am enjoying what is local.
Sounds like heaven! I haven’t been down there for years, long overdue! Yeah, discovering local places is certainly the silver lining to not being able to travel. I wish you well
