    I don’t think this shoe gets the love it deserves, although I am extremely glad I purchased it.

      First impresion and first walk is not pleasent, so that's why, I get this shoe as a present and I appreciate it but I never bought it from store alone because when I tried it it was the most weird shoe I ever try.

    Picture tells a thousand words - putting the Pro up against the Sky+ shows you instantly what this shoe is all about - love those sections, Barry.
    This shoe's rocker rides/rolls like nothing else. Glad you got on with them too. And i imagine your 2s are even more responsive than the 1s I've been running in 👍

      I've always been a HUGE fan of rocker in shoes, but very recently I came across David E. Lieberman, Professor of Biological Sciences, and Professor in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard, who doesn't like rocker!! He thinks the propelling forward should be done by our own feet and so with rockered shoes our muscles don't do the work they should do and consequently become lazy and weaker! I haven't read enough to judge if this is simply a theory or to what point it's backed by science, though the logic seems solid, as for all max-stack/supportive shoes!! I guess it's yet another awesome excuse for us junkies having a variety of different shoes!!😄😆😉

      @@bartekzielinski1645 Couldn’t agree more!!😂😂 Ohh no I haven’t recovered too well actually Bartek , thanks for asking!! AND I have a big 26k trail race next Sunday with 1300m gain!!😬🤦🏻‍♀️ Plus I’ve been suffering from tennis elbow for over 2 weeks now, ouch!!!😣 I must’ve overdone a weights session! CLEARLY my body needs a real break ‘cause I’ve been pushing pushing almost non-stop for about 16months now!! I’ve severely cut back to only 10 slow kms per day this week, one 16km trail session, no gym , even yoga hurts the elbow so I stopped! I’ve started rehab exercises with a resistance band now I know what the pain is! So I will try to take it kinda easy during the race Sunday ‘cause my real objective is a 50k trail 6 April, La Diagonale des Yvelines!! It’s true what they say, yep recover hard too!!! How about you??

    Thanks for this Barry, a fantastic break down. I used the original pro in New York , In fact I have a pair of hardly used pair of the originals (in the initial Black Kakizome) which has joined my original takumi sen 8's and Puma deviate nitro's as keepers rather then usabel shoes (odd memory run). I have not picked up the new one as I thought the even more aggresive nature might be too much for me. I hope training is going well and you are not feeling too beaten up.

      Cheers John! I also have the Takumi Sen 8's doing exatly that. i had a plan to test them against the Streakfly but it never came to pass. Great video review. Most perfectly comprehensive. Am leading to buy it based on your review. One item to consider that there is no extra hole for the runner’s lock that I use. Bought V1 which had it. Will this be your Boston shoes? Or AF3 or VF3? Can’t wait for your gear and nutrition video. Thanks!!! PS: Bought Kendal mint from Amazon. Just got it today.

      Rajkumar. I have 4 new pairs of Carbon Plate shoes...as well as others. Almost certainly I will run Boston in the AF3. Wan't to see how they go over a marathon distance...have been making a long video of all my training etc. just as I did for New York. Will release it when I fly off! I will definitely be using Kendal Mint, got a shipment yesterday of all the flavours as I want some non-caffeine to go with the caffeine version. Let me know if you like it!

    I ran 3 miles in a demo pair in a Mizuno event and I really enjoyed it. Unless you are really overstriding, this shoe does work for heel strikers and mid-foot strikers. It works for heel strikers because they become midfoot strikers with this shoe 😅
    My only gripe is that got rid of the heel counter AND the extra hole for runner's loop lacing at the same time. I had a slight heel slip in one shoe during those 3 miles which the extra hole would have solved it. I guess slightly more abrasive socks would prevent that issue. I might also need to tighten the laces a bit more. I don't know. I only had a very short exposure.
    I am seriously considering these for my next marathon along with Alphafly 3 and Metaspeed Edge Paris.
    BTW, I briefly jogged in ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris and Edge Paris. I personally liked Edge Paris more with the more directed energy return thanks to plate placement. Did you note that, Edge Paris is closer to original Sky than current Sky Paris? Considering ASICS said original Sky was for those "stride" runners and now original Sky kind of reincarnated with Edge Paris and designated for "cadence" runners means ASICS' original thesis was a bit marketing BS!

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  10 місяців тому +2

      Ha! I have a Metaspeed Paris sitting here. Have been doing the filming, which I need to finish before I even put them on...But one of the points I am going to make is that the Edge and Sky are morphing together, such that I don't think there will be separate Sky and Edge versions post Paris. And I don't believe the cadence v stride argument either...Looking forward to testing them...and trying to compare the Edge and Sky and why I went with the Sky...
      I find it strange that the Mizuno don't have two holes for the heel lock, seems such as easy thing to do....

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  9 місяців тому

      I only ran briefly on a treadmill in version 1 but loved it. I am pretty sure my comments which are pased on the second version apply to the first...I don't find the shoe as fast over a short distance as the AF and VF's of this world. Where it excels is when you can keep a consistent pace in tune with the shoe. After a while you get into a rhythm that is really good and you clip along in it. I would only recommend it for flat courses and if you have to be consistent in landing on the midsole of the shoe. Lots of fast fun when you get the hang of it...

      @@OldManRunner fair play and thanks for that feedback. I have the original vaporflys for shorter races and their still going well so this sounds good. The price of shoes in general is extortionate so any good deal on a good shoes very welcome.
      One last thibg, how did you find the sizing?
      I'm size 11.5 but they have 11's and 12 so not sure to go up or down

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  9 місяців тому

      I always go with a UK12 and I seem to be okay with sizing generally in length but am sensitive to width. Mizuno said they made the second version a little longer so I would go up in version 1

  • @i.p2088
    @i.p2088 10 місяців тому

    Great review, I am worried when you said this are a half size longer than the V1. I have the V1 but because it is narrow at the end of the toebox I went up half a size. Fits good but a bit long and definitely use the heel lock. Now V2 does not have a heel lock and is wider so go down half a size to my original size or go down a full size to half under to make sure I don't have to to heel lock. I heel lock all my racing shoes.. 😂

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  10 місяців тому +2

      I didn't wear the V1 for long enough to know the difference in the length. These ones fit fine in what is my standard UK12. One odd point is that a UK12/US13 in Mizuno is an EU47 and in ASICS is an EU48. If you buy based on EU sizing it may be worth considering this...

    Great analysis Barry
    I was totally intrigued by this shoe and bought the V1.. sadly tho i can't seem to work with its geometry - it gives me pain in my lower leg 😢
    It just doesn't have the bounce / energy return of the light strike pro in the aaapro2/3 and prime X.
    ( For my gait / biomechanics )

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  10 місяців тому +1

      I seem to be getting on great with it in the biomechanic way. There is definitely an adaptation in the running technique. I have to relax into it and run at its pace. I have a race in mind for it in October, that will give me great pleasure if I get an entry...

    How would you describe them up against the v1, Barry?

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  10 місяців тому

      I only had a brief run on a treadmill in the V1, so it’s hard to say. Mizuno say they increased in length and the V1 does seem to allow for heel locking. You can see the biggest change if you look at the two shoes side by side on Mizunos websites. The V2 has doubled down on the midsole idea, or doubled up as it is deeper with the heel higher when placed on a flat surface with the forefoot on the ground. Mizuno quote a 4mm drop versus a 2mm drop in the V2. But this is misleading as the deep centre midsole skews the heel stack figures. My guess is that the V2 might require a little more technique to run straight and level but that the added foam will give more return. I’m really enjoying the shoe and don’t find it hard to run in. The V1 is being significantly discounted at the moment
