  • One of my favorite songs ever, combined with one of my favorite sports ever.
As a kid growing up with NASCAR in the early 2000s, this was the time to be a race fan. The cars, the characters, the tracks, there was nothing quite like it, and probably won't ever be again. Brightly colored Monte Carlos, Grand Prixs, Intrepids, and Tauruses, zipping around piloted by the likes of Jeff Gordon, Rusty Wallace, Ken Schrader, Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott, the Labonte Brothers, the Burton Brothers, Jimmy Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Michael Waltrip, and of course, the Earnhardt's. Would you like me to give you any more?
While I loved NASCAR as a whole, for me, my favorite two tracks of all were the duo superspeedways; Daytona and Talladega. That pack-style racing, with 40-plus cars crammed together closer than you'd dare to park at the grocery store, flying across corners banked steeper than the roof of your house, pulling 4-5 Gs while all the while keeping up a 190 mph-plus pace. And that howling scream, a combination of the Restrictor Plate and X-Pipe Manifold......dear god, that was pure music.
So of course, becoming the RUSH-freak I am now years later, imagine my surprise when I re-watched the 2002 Southern 500, and re-discovered "Red Barchetta" as the intro song, perfectly capturing the essence of speed; there is no true cure, no true satisfaction. Just the urge to go even faster, and leave em all in your dust behind you.
This is a tribute to the NASCAR I know and love, to the drivers, cars, and teams I know and love, with a few more glimpses of the "further past" thrown in. Days and races we will never see again.
"My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about....."
    And away we go!!!
Enjoy Everybody! There is plenty more to come!
