Cool build. I had a rt, thing was stupid fast stock. On in the parts gathering stage of a 90 Dakota frame swap on a 60 ford f250 longbed. Just using the Dakota frame. Will be 6.0l ls powered.
I’m gathering the stuff to do this. At some point I will be putting grandpas 52 dodge pilot house or a 2001ish gmc jimmy 4wd frame, floor an firewall. I want to maintain as much functionality of the jimmy but with a vintage body.
this helped me so much thank you much! i just got a 1956 international harvester R110 cab and bed and i want to put it on a newish frame so parts are cheaper
I'm not sure of the wheel base but it was a '98 Dakota RT ext cab. There wasn't a way to avoid the raised bed as the frame rail kicks up quite a bit at the rear. Best of luck with the project.
Sweet. Thanks for thaking all the detail pics of your swap. I just bought a 56 Dodge C3 pickup to eventually moutn on top of my 2001 Dakota chassis, 4.7V8 543RFE trans. I hope to use nearly all of the Dakota to create the C3 into a 1956 Dakota. I plan to do the same as you did, cut the Dakota cab off the floorpan/firewall and weld the 56 cab onto the Dakota. What was the biggest challenge for you doing the swap to match the IH cab to the Dodge firewall/floor?
Biggest challenge for me was to move around the big parts myself, and the "careful" disassembly of the dakota. I think it's key to use as much of the Dakota as possible and just the shell of the old truck for the aesthetics.
Dakota was a 98 RT extended cab. I didn't cut or shorten the dakota frame. It would have been better to use a single cab, but I made this work by spacing the box from the cab a bit further.
Hey brotha I have a 52 110 what wheel base or kind of dodge dakota would I need ? I was thinking of taking to a shop and have done what do you think I should pay or what so you think is a fair price..if I supplied donor as well? Dong want to get ripped off lol
Hey, you'd need a Dakota single cab. Preferably 98-03. It's a very labor intensive and time consuming job, but certainly not impossible and has been done many times. A shop would likely charge a lot to do it. It took me 8 months of nights and weekends.
@SlowCarFix did you have to cut the front side of the box at all to get it to rest on the floor? Sorry for all the questions, got a dakota and a 56 international in the garage, just about to dive into the project. Appreciate the replies!
@@honeywellsnake No problem. I did not cut the front of the bed at all, I just cut the Dakota cab floor back as far as I could and bent it down the rest of the way. I treated the older truck parts as sacred.
Love it however the original wheels especially the original fronts. Would have been nice to have used them and with the proper spacers I think it's possible but idk I guess! Either way, cool truck!
He's running it with steel Dakota wheels now that are painted a cream color. The original IH wheels are a different 6 bolt pattern, a weird offset and very heavy and narrow. Thanks for checking it out.
@@SlowCarFix I'm having some issues getting the brake lights to work. I bought some generic led lights, 4 wires. But for some reason it's being a pain. Not sure if I need to get different lights or just keep playing with it.
Awesome job on this truck, love your channel
Thanks very much, glad you're enjoying.

That's awesome, glad I could help. That truck is the best and result of anything I've done.
Just started my swap today! 55 r110 going on a 99 Dakota 🤟🏻 video is helping me out tremendously! Might have to hit you up if I have any questions!
find me on Instagram, glad to help.
Very cool truck. I’m getting a 47 this weekend. Where did you order the windows and trim from.
@@tobywhitney4798 I used the original
Awesome 🤘
thank you
Do you recall the wheelbase? Any way to avoid a raised bed? I’m trying to frame swap a 1940 Plymouth truck. It’s 116” WB.

1951 International was best looking year for International
I like the 59, but they were all good looking trucks.
Nice cool
thanks
Would it be the same to do this with a 1967 B1100 Havester pick up long bed step side (that’s what they told me I have)
I believe it would be the same. You'd just have to measure the wheel base.

What did you do for the radiator/fan setup?
custom 3 core radiator built at a local spot and a generic fan from Amazon.
What is/was the wheel base of your international? Did you have to cut the dakota frame?

Hey chief... no cahnneling to get the body that low?
I sectioned the body on to the Dakota floor, lined up the firewall where I wanted it and that determined the height.

Wonder if this would fit on a Chevy Tahoe frame 2001❤❤😅
I've never measured, but it might

@Paul Lauderback I'm not sure on overall wheelbase. I know the extended cab isn't ideal. I hope that helps.
@Paul Lauderback gives you lots of room for wide wheels and a deep offset. 👍
@Paul Lauderback glad to help.
In the process of doing the sa.e swap and was wondering if you had some pics of the cutout you did on the firewall
if you're on Instagram, send me a message and I'll send you whatever pictures I have.
@Slow Car Fix i do but not familiar with the navigation
Did you weld the under side of the cab?
yes as much as I had access
@@SlowCarFix did you leave that bit of the dakota floor sticking out the back to? I'm assuming that was done to keep the factory cab mounts?

Do you know of any of these for sale? I'd prefer one of Potter's
You can contact Jeff, he still builds them from time to time.

Nice but a lot of work not a bolt on job for a novice , I like that mustang to bolt on front suspension. Anybody could do it with handtools
It's not for the faint of heart.
I'm building one of these now and I'm finding the steering wheel seems to long. Did you have to shorten yours and if so how did you do it?
Didn't have to do anything with the wheel or column.

How did you run the rear tail lights.
I used the Dakota wiring, cut off the factory ends and soldered and heat shrunk some generic LED
