Doooo it. They're great. A nice surprise I found is that if you get a superkick 1 batter and a regulator reso on your bass drum and then play the bass pedal off the head (don't bury it) the bass resonates for ages and sounds like an 808.

When Aquarian approached me to record and mix this, my first thoughts were, ugh! An Ice Rink??? I got the visual idea and thought that was great but I was afraid of the ambient noise inherent to an ice rink. To my surprise, it wasn't all that bad. Any reverb you're hearing is natural. I didn't need to add anything. It still functions like an open space so there is virtually no reflections like you would get in a closed room but, Eric tunes his drums really well and knows how to hit them to get the most out of them so it was pretty easy to mix. A bit of EQ on the toms and kick as you would normally do, a little high/mid boost and low/mid cut but otherwise mostly clean. I avoided compression, maybe 2 or 3:1 on the whole mix. It's all fairly natural. Cheers!
