I must admit, I bust out laughing at: “Your sh*t, but you birds are fit”. Translation: “Your football team needs improvement Sweden, but your women are attractive, no problem there” 😂😂
It's not shown in the original clip, but Sweden did a comeback chant and sang "Go home to your ugly wives!" 😂

OMG that’s so funny! They only do that in America for snow days when it has been snowing the night before and the caretakers need extra time in the morning to clear the snow from the pavements around the school. A delayed opening because of the football is a smashing reason. I’m thankful they’re showing the game on American tv channels, but even though one of my bosses is German I don’t think I’ll get a late start to work in the morning. Probably because we beat them! 😆🏴🏴🏴

I’ve started a few of these chants off in stadiums and it’s the best feeling in the world when everyone joins in. You have to go through a few embarrassing non starters to get there but when they hit, they’re amazing.

The Tartan army is what we call the Scottish national football team supporters so the English fans were singing that Scotland wouldn't progress to Germany.
There's a wee bit of rivalry between Scotland and England.

Some of them were not only offensive but if you were on the receiving end could be frankly borderline racist! Arges!! Really !! I mean I’m not likely to ever go to a football match and but I do love the way stuff just gets made up and picked up, in all seriousness these guys/girls are wasted in whatever career they are in cuz they should be writing advert tag lines - although maybe leave the arge comments out!

The trick to football chants is they use a *very* well known melody, such as classic rock and classic pop songs, or school yard rhymes, then the lyrics are improvised around that. They start small, then rapidly spread in a crowd as they repeat, then die down when everyone has had enough.. Many are spontaneously created, though some are more well known but even they can change. The chants are definitely my favourite part of football here in the UK (I prefer to play sport then watch it) and it's one example of mob mentality that's actually really fun.
Been subscribed like a month now, seen some old vids some new vids and I love your reactions, you Americans really are surprised at how shit is done over here but it’s a nice insight as to what you guys think across the pond. And yeah it’s coming home!!!!!! 🏴🏴🏴

For context, Gordon Strachan is a Scot, might have been Scotland manager when the clip was recorded. Yeah, most chants are started by a couple of loud blokes, the ones around them join in and it just catches on. The “Escape to Victory theme” one is actually the Great Escape theme, one of the most iconic themes (apart for for the guy editing the video!)

JT, the first song that you were enjoying was 'Freed From Desire' by Gala and it was a massive club hit during the late 1990's throughout Europe as well as here in the U.K. and is one of my all-time favourites. Of course those England fans changed the words to " Vardy's On Fire " to fit in with their chant, didn't they? If you want to watch the original song on UA-cam it's readily available by just typing in the original title and Gala's name. Enjoy.
By the way, maybe it's just me but I've noticed that the word 'England' switches from having two syllables to having three instead whenever England fans start chanting it, doesn't it? It goes from just being England to Ing-er-land....I suppose that's just another of our weird English quirks, isn't it? :-)

If you like football chants, you'll love rugby chants!
Football chants are great because it's usually a short statement over and over that can be spread through a crowd ("you're shit but your birds are fit"), rugby chants are a bit more detailed and usually have multiple verses to remember. Basically, if a football chant is the equivalent of saying "f**k off you dickhead", then a rugby chant is the equivalent of getting heckled by Jimmy Carr.
The "dont take me home" part was from a match a few years ago in Germany, me and 6 mates did a roadtrip from London to Berlin with a night out in Eindhoven along the way to get to that match, 2-0 down to come back and beat the Germans 3-2 in their own backyard! What a few days that was :D
That Argentina chant is the worst type of chant!!

you said it surprises you everyone knows the words but if you went to a football game over here in the uk, i guarntee you leave and know them all, because theyre sang over and over again you learn the very quickly
If you listen to them and a load others on youtube - a lot are variations on a well known chant -people and places changed - thats where people start shouting
