    In this lesson, you will learn what scientific notation is and why it is used. We use scientific notation when we need to write very large or very small numbers down. By using a power of 10, we can move the decimal point and write any number we wish in a very compact way. So, if we need to express the distance across the galaxy or the size of an atom, we can express the number using scientific notation.

    I really admire your genuine enthusiasm that shines through in all your videos. I am a Mathematics teacher in Ireland and have picked up so many tips and tricks by watching your presentations. To spend the amount of time you do, both preparing and creating the videos, for no monetary gain, is very reassuring that there are still some very decent people out there. You explain concepts so thoroughly and clearly. Thank you so much.

    That is so clear, I can see it.
    I think I may never forget how to move the decimal.
    That was a great little quick lesson.

    Thank you for the video. When explaining scientific notation, emphasize the importance of considering the number of significant digits. For instance, when expressing a number like 0.7, ensure it's represented as 7 × 10^-1, not 7.0 × 10^-1, as 0.7 contains only one significant digit.

    123.25=1×10^2+2×10^1+1×10^0+2×10^-1+5×10^-2.
    If we move to the left of decimal point, we get positive powers of 10. Similarly,if we move to the right of decimal point,we get negative powers of 10. This idea can be used in scientific notation,I think.
