In this lesson, you will learn what the number Pi is and why is important in Math. We will then use the number Pi to find the circumference of a circle. It turns out that the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of any circle is always the same number, which is Pi - for any size circle! We can then use this do find the circumference, diameter, or radius of any circle we wish.

I appreciate the kind words!!
I second that, same comment
This is funny 🤣🤣
Non math guy here, I wish I had paid more attention to this study years ago, but I'm quite glad I'm more familiar with it later in life. I never really knew the significance of pi and why there existed such mysticism about it. If you wanted the circumference of a circle someone long ago created a formula. All you had to do was plug into the formula. What's the big deal! There are formulas for many things, so why is there almost like a cult following for pi?
A few years ago I'm looking at a circle. If figured I could measure the circumference of this circle by simply straightening the circle out into a straight line. I knew the diameter. So, how many diameter length lines could I get out of this circle? It turned out that I could get 3 diameter length lines. But when I tried to reattach the 3 diameter length lines and curve them back to re-form a circle I was still short in completing the circle. There was a gap. How short? Of course it was .14159 of the diameter. So now I could see how the formula was created, you could get 3 complete straight lines of the length of the diameter and a fourth line but needed only a fraction of that fourth line of about 14.159 of the diameter and thus we have the familiar 3.14159 for pi. So what?
Well, we are still working with numbers and it was taught that the last little gap to complete pi, that .14159 went on indefinitely, you could go to .14159265359 for early starters. Big deal, just round the damn thing! I had no concern over an endless stream of numbers. I then saw a problem when I was trying to re-form my circle. If these decimal places were endless then that could mean only one thing. I COULD NEVER REATTACH MY CIRCLE! How could that possibly be? I could get closer, and closer, and closer, and closer and still NEVER complete the gap in my circle! I never considered a philosophical or metaphysical approach to pi. I knew the formula for a circle which included pi was a model for ALL circles, but it is almost freakish to consider that I can straighten out a circle to find its circumference, or by using a formula that includes pi which has some element of infinity that is essentially telling me that I CANNOT fully complete circle when I can clearly see (I think) in "reality" a closed circle. Pi is telling me my circle is an illusion or something. That at some level it ain't really connected! Thus it is an irrational number. At least I now see why new agers, philosophers, and certain cult groups are so fond with pi not as a mathematical tool, but as an adventure into some unknown realm and alien dimension. This is quite fun!
You're a great teacher!!!
Thank you so much!
I do love math's teach... How could I get a certificate from you teach for math & science?
congrats for 1 million mr jason
Thanks so much - almost there!!

*This deserves 2x10⁶ million views!*
Might you discuss the equation 22/7 and its history? I would like to know how that ratio was determined to be pi. Was it the result of an actual measurement using a string or something of that sort?
THANK YOU... SIR...!!!
So nice of you
Thank you v much indeed Sir Great video.Im send you a suloute from Bahrain 🇧🇭
Best teacher
You’re a genius! Hope you’re doing well!
I wish you were my math teacher
But Mr.Chikowski was awesome to
Thx u sir. Your explanation is the best. May be you can give another option on your payment to get your lesson in my country. Indonesia.
Hello. Is Pi (3.14) the angular curve to continue into a circle?
Question - if the circle is Pi, then wouldn't the string of numbers come to repeat as soon as you completed the circle? If pie keeps going on then maybe it wasn't a pure circle to begin with since maybe it's getting smaller or bigger but in such a way that even with our calculations, we cant tell the equation is off?
Please do a talk about mapsands ales :)
Hello Prof. Jason, can you please make a video on bayseian statistics? Although I am familiar with the topic, your teaching helps me strengthen my core learning ❤️
What is that brother
Sorry I mean sister😅
Thanks sir
Welcome!
I have a question!! I want to prove with the Formula Lom how fast the electron weighs towards the proton! or the weighting power between proton and electron with formula please?

Hi!
i understand the problem associated with pi i was marine infantry and concerned about the inaccuracies in indirect fire (mortars) 3.172 is what i foundcan be representd the address is the way i found it but on that address i did not zoom the final result as far as it could go to find the number 3.172 and got 3.167 but zoomed as far as it can go i get 3.172 i feel very strong about this and i believe the responsible thing to do is try and share this again. additionally i am aware there is a formula for finding pi and it states its impossible but i have seen evidence myself that in decimal points say from 0 to 10 tenths thats 11 numbers which is to many sir and for division istead of just dropping a number subtract each decimal place so if your remainder is 1 then subtract 90 tenths which takes 9 hundreds this combined isgiving me exact values and not traditional answers sir thank you for your time also i have done a basic CAD on Blender for a turbine fan of 3 inches with eighth inch blades and 1/32 spacing using the 3.172 i got an exact fit of 60.9475032 blades and spacing or 61 rounding the cirumference up and 1/32 as 0.0312 without the five for the hundred thousandths sir. i know it is believed this is a waste of time i apologize for the inconvienience sir. I also strongly believe that it is not sir thank you. additionally i found if you divide one side of a square by four and then multiply by 16 you get the same area as the number with 3.172 so for a 4 inch diameter and each side of the square as 3.172 inches 3.172 divided by 4 and then multiply by 16 to make the segmented square equal in 16 parts 4 rows long by four rows high you get 12.688 sir the same as 3.172 * 4 = 12.688 hif you do the same thing with traditional Pi you get the same value as well 3.14~* 4 = 12.566370614359173 3.14~ / 4 * 16 = 12.5663706143591728

This teacher is so good my cat knows pie now
A nice strange issue: a circle with a radius of two units had the same circumference number units and area in number units squared.
Now i understand how Pi was born😂, Thank you teacher.
😍👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻so respected teachers ❤❤
Viswanathan
Thankyou
Chennai.
You are from???
so i guess i have a question why is 3.14 / 4 * 16 = 12.5663706143591728 incorrect when 3.14^2 = 9.8696044010893586 is the correct answer for finding the area of a circle when PI * r^2 = 12.566370614359173 with a 4 inch diameter circle?

Does anyone think it's a coincidence that the 1st time God says his name in the Bible is here in Exodus
3.14?
3:13 God Reveals His Name.[g] Moses said to God, “If I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors sent me to you,’ but they say to me, ‘What is his name,’ what should I say to them?” 3:14? God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[h] Then he said, “You will say to the children of Israel, ‘I am sent me to you.’ ” 15 God also said to Moses, “You will say to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, sent me to you.’ This is my name forever. This is the title with which I will be remembered from one generation to the next.”
If using pi r square...if a diameter is 6 in. The radius is 3in..using pi r square...isn't solution 3.14 x 3 square or 3.14 x9..

I like everything you are teaching, thank you for this. However, I wanted to say that gravity is only a theory. Outer space is not what we’ve all been programmed to be. So I just really wonder how it would affect calculations if this truth ever gets out? How would that change up Pi if any? Many are waking up to the big lie on globe earth & space thankfully. Again, Great video, thank you
